[Spirit] Roger asks (of inky), "So, are you still thinking along pirate lines?"
[Spirit] inky says, "I have a list of a couple character concepts"
[Spirit] inky says, "I figure I will see what other people want to play and find something that doesn't overlap too much"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "oh hey, chargen session in 7 minutes"
[Spirit] Roger exclaims, "Crom is displeased by your accomodating attitude!"
[Spirit] Roger says (to Ghogg), "Yeah, more or less."
[Spirit] inky asks (of Ghogg), "are yoi going to play?"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "I probably wouldn't be able to make the playtime reliably enough"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "altough I guess I could go through the chargen part just in case"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Feel free to build up a character and if you can make it, great; if not, I'll just feed him to the sarlacc pit."
[Spirit] vimes says, "repeatedly, if you miss multiple sessions"
[Spirit] Roger says, "He's just that damn tasty"
[Spirit] vimes says, "that's the wonderful thing about these barbarian-type self-contained stories"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "hee hee"
[Spirit] vimes says, "it doesn't matter what horrible thing is obviously happening to one of the heroes this issue - next issue, it's as though nothing ever happened"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "it's the character that dies every episode"
[Spirit] vimes says, "on the other hand, you never get to keep your cool new spoils of war or awesome blood-forged sword, either - you lose them to wine, women, and song"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Quite so"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Alrighty then -- as inky has alluded to, character generation generally starts off with a high-level character concept"
[Spirit] Roger says, "So if you got one, lay it on us"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Feel free to kick-start us, Dan"
[Spirit] inky asks, "yeah? are we waiting for gdorn?"
[Spirit] inky says, "oh, I guess he's here"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "hello"
[Spirit] Cadiz waves, but will be in and out.
[Spirit] Roger says, "I figure the stranglers can recap themselves up; I don't want dfan to feel bad that we were all sitting around waiting for him or anyone else."
[Spirit] inky says, "I think the latest idea I ended up with was a guy with some kind of semi-sinister magic sword"
[Spirit] inky says, "so he'd probably have weapons and then some kind of diplomacy-type things in his top skills"
[Spirit] vimes asks, "invisible sword made of chocolate biscuits, right?"
[Spirit] inky says, "so he can try to talk things out before fighting"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "uh, where is the char building going on?"
[Spirit] inky says, "exactly"
[Spirit] vimes says, "very sinister, especially to people on diets"
[Spirit] Roger says, "It's all in-channel; no dice-rolling or anything is required. We could hang out in some particular location if you want, but I don't think it gains us anything."
[Spirit] vimes says, "I like channel, it highlights"
[Spirit] inky says (to vimes), "you never see it until it's TOO LATE"
[Spirit] vimes says (to inky), "a delicious fate, to be sure"
[Spirit] Roger asks, "Kinda an Elric vibe, then?"
[Spirit] inky says, "yeah"
[Spirit] inky says, "(I haven't read any of the elric stories, but I know the general gist)"
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "I could tell you some Ellric stories."
[Spirit] Roger asks, "I think we can work with that. Any idea on how you came to be in possession of the sword?"
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "Oh, wait."
[Spirit] * Jearl has joined the channel.
[Spirit] Roger exclaims, "No Elricrolling!"
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "Ha"
[Spirit] Jearl asks, "okay if I look in?"
[Spirit] Cadiz exclaims, "Of course!"
[Spirit] inky says, "I think it's one of those Sting setups where I was getting my ass kicked by some bad guys in a mysterious tomb and then found this sword"
[Spirit] inky says, "you can even join in"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Sure; hang out, admire our mighty thews"
[Spirit] Cadiz . o O ( What does that have to do with gambling on horses? )
[Spirit] Roger says, "Works for me"
[Spirit] Roger asks, "Sounds like a good start. Anyone else have something in mind? Justin?"
[Spirit] vimes says, "world-weary chief of a tribe wiped out in a war, convinced he's cursed to never be able to die"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Cool! I bet he's wrong, though."
[Spirit] inky asks, "wait, you have a name?"
[Spirit] inky says, "I mean, I guess you do"
[Spirit] Ghogg is thinking
[Spirit] inky says, "but somehow it never sunk in that it wasn't vimes"
[Spirit] Roger says, "(I'm just trying that out on a whim. I know it's a bit disorienting.)"
[Spirit] vimes says (to inky), "well, yeah, and it's been in my finger forever"
[Spirit] vimes says, "i was hoping you were referring to me and not someone else who more canonically goes by justin"
[Spirit] Roger asks, "Are the people who wiped out your tribe still around and still your enemies?"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "I dunno, could I make someone Beastmaster-like? Rides a giant war dog or something?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Heh; I just noticed we have (or will have) two Dans, so yeah, disambiguation could be an issue."
[Spirit] dfan returns and reads scrollback
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "My idea was to be the assisstant of the snake priest that killed the mentor of some other character, that finally saw his mentor's evil in the battle, and turned on the guy (ideally, this would be as a supplemental role in someone else's pulp story, as his introduction)."
[Spirit] Roger says (to Ghogg), "Sure, Jason; I think that fits the genre well and the rules can handle it pretty easily."
[Spirit] vimes says, "Oh, absolutely. And every time I've encounterd them since, I've thrown myself at them and somehow end up having wreaked havoc and continued to not die"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Most excellent."
[Spirit] vimes says, "my desire, of course, is to die honorably in battle with them, or to wipe them entirely out"
[Spirit] Roger says (to Cadiz), "I think that's still pretty viable, Lucian."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "maybe tasked by an ancient lion on some secret quest, and while he can't go Dr. Dolittle style he has enough empathy he can still get animals to do stuff for him"
[Spirit] dfan says, "OK, so my idea was a streetwise-but-maybe-not-as-much-as-he-thinks thief"
[Spirit] dfan says, "Not to cut in line too much"
[Spirit] inky says, "it would actually be totally easy by the rules to talk to animals"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to inky), "hm ok"
[Spirit] inky says, "if that is what you want"
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "Yeah, I was thinking of a 'talk with snakes' aspect."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "I need to study the rules at this point, I was just throwing out"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Nah let's keep this a fertile rollick"
[Spirit] inky says, "(there is a specific stunt for it)"
[Spirit] Roger says (to dfan), "That's a good archetype to go with"
[Spirit] Roger asks, "Young kid sort of concept?"
[Spirit] dfan says, "Yeah, probably 17 or something"
[Spirit] Roger asks, "Spoiled noble maybe?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Or a tough orphan raised in the gutters"
[Spirit] dfan says, "I was thinking grew up on the streets"
[Spirit] dfan says, "Right"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah for sure"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "I'm sorta thinking about a conflicted spellcaster, like a regular peon or farmer that ended up cursed with magic. only now he's ostracized from his tribe because they all assume that all magic is evil."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "(which may, in fact, be true)"
[Spirit] inky says, "hmm, if none of you guys are going to be nobles, I'm going to be a noble"
[Spirit] inky says, "(vimes' guy is a chief but barbarians don't count)"
[Spirit] vimes says (to inky), "Hello, chief of a tribe! ...that no longer exists."
[Spirit] vimes says (to inky), "aww."
[Spirit] Roger says (to Gdorn), "yeah I can see that working."
[Spirit] dfan says, "I hate nobles"
[Spirit] vimes says, "i can too count!"
[Spirit] vimes says, "One! Two! And through and through!"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Maybe make it a hereditary curse or something, or you were just born under a bad sign, or whatnot"
[Spirit] dfan says, "Living free and easy, never had to lift a finger"
[Spirit] inky says (to dfan), "I will clip you on the side of the head and you can steal my wallet"
[Spirit] dfan says, "Done and done"
[Spirit] vimes says (to dfan), "and then I'll grab you by the rope belt without really looking and sigh at you"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "ok, quick recap: who is doing which char concept?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Hold on I've got some short notes that I can pastebomb"
[pastebomb] Roger says, "inky -- semi-sinister magic sword; diplomatic too. Mysterious tomb."
[pastebomb] Roger says, "vimes -- world-weary chief of a tribe wiped out in a war, convinced he's cursed to never be able to die"
[pastebomb] Roger asks, "Ghogg -- I dunno, could I make someone Beastmaster-like? Rides a giant war dog or something?"
[pastebomb] Roger says, "Cadiz -- My idea was to be the assisstant of the snake priest that killed the mentor of some other"
[pastebomb] Roger says, "character, that finally saw his mentor's evil in the battle, and turned on the guy (ideally, this would"
[pastebomb] Roger says, "be as a supplemental role in someone else's pulp story, as his introduction)."
[pastebomb] Roger says, "dfan -- OK, so my idea was a streetwise-but-maybe-not-as-much-as-he-thinks thief"
[pastebomb] Roger says, "GDorn -- I'm sorta thinking about a conflicted spellcaster, like a regular peon or farmer that ended up"
[pastebomb] Roger says, "cursed with magic. only now he's ostracized from his tribe because they all assume that all magic is evil."
[Spirit] Jearl says, "for those not on #movies, is there a role for demons or the undead? I have several conflicting bare-bones thoughts"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "partly because I didn't really think about it till this morning"
[Spirit] Roger says, "There can be a role for that, sure"
[Spirit] inky asks, "hmm, do we have a big brawny guy?"
[Spirit] inky says, "I guess that could be vimes and/or Ghogg"
[Spirit] GDorn asks, "do we need a big brawny guy?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "YES"
[Spirit] vimes says, "not per se, but I'm a big brawny guy"
[Spirit] Roger says, "(well maybe not)"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "hehehe."
[Spirit] inky says, "who else will say "Croooooom""
[Spirit] vimes says, "that's not my /thing/, but I Am"
[Spirit] Roger asks (of Jearl), "What sorts of things did you have in mind?"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "I imagine dude living in the wilderness would be big/brawny, yeah"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I was thinking of being an escaped human sacrifice to a demon - and then I thought, perhaps the escaped *successful* human sacrifice to a demon - infused with powers and viloent urges I don't understand"
[Spirit] vimes says, "hee hee"
[Spirit] vimes says, "that's pretty awesome"
[Spirit] inky says, "that sounds pretty cool"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah I can definitely see that working"
[Spirit] vimes says, "HA HA I ESCAPED why is my heart missing? man, I should totally go eat those babies."
[Spirit] Jearl says, "alternately a warrior princess who messes up the aforementioned human sacrifice and now has a giant cursed ruby that makes her do things"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "but inky is sort of doing that"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Maybe you got mixed up with that Snake Cult from Lucian's background"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "yeah, I was thinking a subtle demon, not like the balrog or something - maybe they were trying to make a snake-demon servant, and I escaped"
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "It would totally be genre if I helped her escape, if perhaps a bit awkward."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yes... 'escaped'..."
[Spirit] inky says, "perhaps you had the change of heart mid-ceremony and that messed things up"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "this belt of human skulls was on me when I was summoned, honest"
[Spirit] Roger says (to inky), "Quite literally, yes"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] vimes says, "hee hee"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "or Cadiz' interference made it go wrong and let me keep my human soul"
[Spirit] vimes says, "ok, now I'm thinking of Pee Wee Herman doing the ceremony"
[Spirit] Roger says, "The ultimate embodiment of pure evil"
[Spirit] vimes says, "and saying "Oh, looks like she had a change of heart, ha ha""
[Spirit] Cadiz says (to vimes), "Groan"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Okay so I think we're off to a running start here, which is great. The rules recommend at this point creating a name for the character, which seems like a good idea, if only to have some handle to reference them with."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "ack."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "hardest part of character creation."
[Spirit] dfan says, "Damn, I was going to choose ack"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "heh. Maybe I'll be 'Ak'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Heh. If you need some inspiration, I like this name generator site: http://nine.frenchboys.net/index.php"
[Spirit] dfan says, "Let's go with Tack"
[Spirit] dfan says, "Well, not if GDorn is Ak"
[Spirit] vimes says, "ok, I'm going to call up Dwarf Fortress and come up with a name for my tribe that way"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Ha"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I think 'Sylith' will fit me"
[Spirit] Roger says, "I think so too"
[Spirit] dfan says (to GDorn), "Are you going with Ak? I can change"
[Spirit] Roger says, "O, Sylith"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "am I missing something? I'm looking at Spirit of the Blank and don't see Conan-specific rules"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "nah, I'm still looking"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah I'm not really using those rules per se"
[Spirit] inky says, "this site is totally a win"
[Spirit] dfan says, "OK, Tack it is"
[Spirit] Roger says, "They just encouraged me to get around to doing this"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "just use the SRD?"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "I think maybe I'm 'Joden'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Baby once you go Tack you never go back"
[Spirit] inky says, "I just can't decide if I should be Orlando or Everard"
[Spirit] Roger says (to Ghogg), "Yeah pretty much"
[Spirit] inky says, "ok, Everard it is"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "that sounds farm-boy enough."
[Spirit] vimes says, "Cain."
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] inky says, "awesome"
[Spirit] vimes says, "Now just waiting to find a good name for my ex-people."
[Spirit] inky says, "it was a small tribe"
[Spirit] dfan says, "Shipstrangled"
[Spirit] vimes says, "Cain and the Abel"
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "I'm trying to think of something like 'The Shadow', but am coming up blank."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "I am trying to come up with a name with lots of gutteral sounds"
[Spirit] schep asks, "like 'ghogg'?"
[Spirit] inky asks, "Twilight?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "The Shadowy Shadow what which Shadows in the Shadows"
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "Maybe I'll just go with Iason or something."
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to schep), "yeah, but not"
[Spirit] inky asks, "Dusk?"
[Spirit] dfan asks (of Roger), "How many characters do you see playing in any one session?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Heh, I dunno. Apparently somewhere between 1 and 7."
[Spirit] dfan says, "OK, just checking if 7 was too much"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Nah I think that should be fine, if it comes to that"
[Spirit] inky says, "someone should be Lojban"
[Spirit] Roger says, "The Grim"
[Spirit] inky says, "Tengwar would also be good"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to inky), "I'll take that"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "I need a "the ....." after it though"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Lojban THE DESTROYER"
[Spirit] Ghogg exclaims, "Yes!"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "Lojban the Destroyer. I'll call the ancient lion He-Who-Walks-With-Fire."
[Spirit] vimes says, "Cain the Suffering, of the Tengwar Clan"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Lojban, The Beast That Walks On Two Legs"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "(which was the name of the lion on a nature show I saw recently. I rewatched the scene, in slow motion.)"
[Spirit] Roger asks (of Cadiz), "Are you going to run with Iason (for now at least) then?"
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "Hrm hrm hrm"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Ia, Son of Eeeagh"
[Spirit] vimes says, "actually, screw "the Suffering", he's not emo"
[Spirit] Jearl asks, "the Vengeful?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "The Sufferingmonger"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "the Sufferator"
[Spirit] Roger says, "The Sufi"
[Spirit] vimes says, "Barbarian's Sufferage"
[Spirit] inky says (to lpsmith), "you could have a title as part of your name, like 'Master Li' or 'Adept X'"
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "Iason, Adept of Dusk"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Excellent"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "Joden the Monkey Demon. I mean, farmboy."
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "Ha"
[Spirit] Cadiz says, "Sure, I'll go with that for now."
[Spirit] Iason changes his name.
[Spirit] Roger says, "Okay so we've got Sylith, Tack, Joden, Lord Everard, Cain last of the Tengwar, Lojban the Destroyanator, and Iason, Adept of Dusk"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "Sylith the Curse-walker"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Heh fun"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I don't know what it means, we'll work that out"
[Spirit] inky says, "Tack needs to steal himself a last name"
[Spirit] vimes says, "Cain the Exile, last of the Tengwar"
[Spirit] vimes says, "that works"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Okay so the next phase or the first 'real' phase (of 5) is Background, which covers life from 0 to about 14"
[Spirit] dfan says, "Uh oh, my next four phases are going to be pretty short"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Roger says, "The idea is to come out of each phase with two Aspects related to this part of your life"
[Spirit] Roger says, "You grow up fast on the streets, I guess."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Had a full beard when you were 9."
[Spirit] dfan asks, "How's 'Child of the Streets' for an aspect, or too generic?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "So good Aspects to consider here include cultural things, family things, and such"
[Spirit] Roger says (to dfan), "That's about right I think"
[Spirit] Iason says (to Jearl), "Hey, I like it."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "hrm. 'farmboy' might be too cheap, then."
[Spirit] Roger says, "If the game ends up revolving around a particular city, we can always retcon you into being a Child of 'X' Streets"
[Spirit] dfan says, "and how about '"Nobody tells ME what to do"'"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "I mean, 0-14: herded goats, milked pigs, drove a plow."
[Spirit] Jearl asks, "hmm, this will be weird for me. am I an 18-year old human or a 5-week old half-demon?"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] vimes says (to Jearl), "both!"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Farmboy is a bit weakish, yeah. Something like Farming in the Veins maybe"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "obviously lojban was part of some travelling caravan that was all wiped out by wild animals at the age of 5, but he was the sole survivor"
[Spirit] inky says, "I mean, the mechanical point here is you can use aspects to boost your die rolls or declare facts about the world"
[Spirit] dfan says, "unless that opens stuff up for too much intraparty conflict - I promise not to be bad, though"
[Spirit] Roger says (to Ghogg), "I kept reading that as 'traveling circus'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Well, there's two points, really"
[Spirit] Roger says, "One is, yeah, if I've got some demon that's trying to control your mind, you can say, hey, No One Tells Me What To Do"
[Spirit] dfan says, "Right, I figured I could use it if someone is trying to intimidate me or something"
[Spirit] Iason says, "And when the party decides to do something, Roger can give you a fate point to go off on your own."
[Spirit] dfan says, "Right"
[Spirit] Roger says, "The other is when the king tells you to guard the shiny box and NEVER EVER OPEN IT, I can exert some leverage on your character to maybe consider taking a peek"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "yeah,. if I added character to the village/tribe he was a part of, that could mean something. oh, hey. yeah. subsistence farmers in some really crappy terrain, forced to be there by ___. He might have gotten cursed by making a deal to improve the situation, but I think actually he's just born under the wrong sign and his powers were revealed when he made it rain."
[Spirit] vimes says, "so, Cain being the son of the chief before him, he grew up to endless tales of honor and what is 'right', and in the spitting image of his father, so I'm thinking like "Unswerving Honor" and "Born To Rule" or something."
[Spirit] dfan says, "Me? open a shiny box? Never!"
[Spirit] Alex says (to dfan), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that dfan is often confused with Dman, who is annoying. >cough<."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "so, uh, something like Survivor (reflecting his gritty hard-to-knock-down-ness) and Communicates With Animals"
[Spirit] Roger says, "So basically if you're going to be a loner anyway, you might as well get paid for it. And that aspect doesn't really necessarily make you a loner anyway."
[Spirit] Roger says, "'Survivor' is a bit weaksauce. Something like 'Won't Stay Down' or something has more flavour, if you see what I mean"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to Roger), "yeah"
[Spirit] Roger says, "But it's okay to just get a general idea of where you want to go with this and we can fine-tune things later"
[Spirit] dfan says, "My next aspect will be 'Weaksauce'"
[Spirit] vimes says, "hee hee"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Heh"
[Spirit] inky says, "I think my background aspects are something easy like Born To The Nobility and Duelist"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "okay, I'm thinking Sylith was also of noble birth - a pampered daughter chosen for sacrifice to infiltrate the court. And also is nubile and peach-skinned and so forth."
[Spirit] Iason goes for 'Secrets of the Snake Cult' and, hmm, something like 'Swims like a fish' or 'Jungle runner'
[Spirit] Roger says, "As far as cultural things go... hmmm. Probably the easiest thing to do is rip off a real or fictional culture that we can all understand, if anyone wants to go that route, so 'Irish' or 'Klingon' or whatever"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "Courtly Manners and um what."
[Spirit] inky says, "and Peachy Keen"
[Spirit] Roger says, "'Nubile' is about as genre-appropriate as they come"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Roger says, "'Innocent of the Ways of the World' if you want to try that angle"
[Spirit] vimes says, "there really isn't a good word like 'tribal' for 'clan', is there"
[Spirit] vimes says, "i can't really say "clanal""
[Spirit] Jearl says, "; that sounds good"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Clannish"
[Spirit] vimes says, "brb"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "clantastic"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Ha"
[Spirit] inky says, "I think you just say 'clan'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Of course if Jearl can't make it I hope everyone knows she's been kidnapped by snake cultists."
[Spirit] dfan says, "Claaaaaaaaaaan"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Iason says, "(OK, have to skip out a bit; back later)"
[Spirit] Roger asks, "'Duelist' is a bit weakish... what are you trying to get at with that?"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "she was also learning some mad heartbreaking and manipulating skills, within the court. so "Wrapped Around Her Finger?""
[Spirit] Roger says, "Sure, that gets the idea across to me"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] * Tack has joined the channel.
[Spirit] Roger says, "Or even just 'Heartbreaker' works for me"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Re D(f)an"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "hmm. having a hard time coming up with aspects. I'm mostly viewing his childhood as a series of famines and droughts, with some deep shame that runs through the entire tribe relating to just why they're located in such a hostile place."
[Spirit] inky says, "oh, I figured he was one of those noble kids who gets a fencing tutor and then turns out to be actually pretty good"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I'm totally playing the princess from Conan the Destroyer except that I'm also playing the snake-witch from Conan the Barbarian"
[Spirit] inky says, "excellent"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "something like 'Indomitable'?"
[Spirit] Roger asks, "Hmmm well when you see his tribe, does it look like some real or fake tribe we might know, like the Apache or Cimmerians or Irish?"
[Spirit] GDorn says (to Ghogg), "yeah, but that sounds too much like 'Survivor'"
[Spirit] Tack says (to inky), "I wonder if he would turn down more promising combat options to duel instead"
[Spirit] GDorn says (to Roger), "Australian penal colony."
[Spirit] Jearl says, "'Bonechewer'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Hey, cool."
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to GDorn), "except it sounds 4 times cooler"
[Spirit] Roger says, "'Nature is a Bitch'"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "just 'Hard to Kill' would work too."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "I'm thinking maybe the reason he got banished from his already sad tribe is that they're there because of some dark magic secret."
[Spirit] inky says (to Tack), "yeah, I think he is kind of an arrogant guy about his sword skill, although I think he is probably better against other noble-trained duelists than against random school-of-hard-knocks fighters"
[Spirit] Roger says (to inky), "Surprising Aptitude for Death"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "'the Haunted Tribe'"
[Spirit] inky says, "(but I don't know how to get all that across in one aspect)"
[Spirit] Jearl says, ""Fop""
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah you can totally go with something like 'Cursed to Roam the Earth' and then we'll figure out what that means in play"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "that certainly sounds cool enough"
[Spirit] Roger says, "It doesn't /all/ need to go in to the two aspects, either, just so ya know."
[Spirit] Roger says, "And we don't really need to nail down every pair of aspects in every phase, either. We can leave some open, or steal some across to other phases, or whatnot. The 'origin' of the aspect doesn't really ever come up again so much."
[Spirit] GDorn asks, "Like a Roach and ... ?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Heh, that rocks."
[Spirit] inky says, "ok, I'm going to stick in duelist and come up with something more clever later"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "'Hard to Kill' and 'Talks With Animals' sound most directly related to the origin story, so I'll stick with that"
[Spirit] Roger says, "The other thing too is that it's tempting to go with somewhat genericish sorts of things like we've mostly been doing, but feel free to go specific and say stuff like 'Learnt Fencing from Iolo the Blade' or 'Raised in the Gutters of Stranglecat Alley'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Which I know is kinda goofy when we don't really have a setting yet, but, you know, it's an option."
[Spirit] Tack says, "Strangled the Cats of Stranglecat Alley"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "Cockroach and Waterfinder. The latter is because he frequently does magic for minor beneficial effects without knowing he's doing it. Tribe needs water? It's, uh, over there."
[Spirit] Roger exclaims, "So I'm going to take a 5 minute break here; talk among yourselves, and we'll start to get ramped up for Phase 2: Call to Adventure!"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "cool."
[Spirit] Jearl asks, "how many aspects do we end up with?"
[Spirit] Jearl asks, "2 per phase?"
[Spirit] GDorn asks, "10?"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "seems like a lot."
[Spirit] inky says, "yeah"
[Spirit] inky says, "well, as you may or may not recall, you pay a fate point every time you invoke an aspect"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "the Spirit of the Blank rules indicates he wants to go with 7?"
[Spirit] inky says, "so the fate points are the actual limiter of how much they can be used in play"
[Spirit] inky says, "the aspects are used to color the application of the fate points"
[Spirit] inky says (to Ghogg), "I'm not sure if he's going to cleave that closely"
[Spirit] inky says, "I guess we can see"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "yeah, looks like 10."
[Spirit] Roger says, "(back) Yeah I'm planning to go with the vanilla rules as much as possible, so 10 aspects. If they don't all get used every session, ehh, that's fine."
[Spirit] schep asks, "oh, this is going to be multiple sessions?"
[Spirit] GDorn asks, "does the mud have a dF roller?"
[Spirit] inky says, "yeah"
[Spirit] Roger says, "On a meta level I just wanted to say I'm personally having a lot of fun with this; it's a lot better for me than the usual boring in-a-room-alone chargen."
[Spirit] Roger says (to schep), "I want to leave the door open for that."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "on a meta level, I'm skipping class because the game is grabbing my interest that much."
[Spirit] vimes says, "hee hee"
[Spirit] Roger says (to GDorn), "The direction I'd take Waterfinder is that your character led the village to water, alright, but it turned out to be poisoned or something for some reason and so they all got sick and ran you out of town"
[Spirit] inky says, "you're not skipping class for another ten minutes"
[Spirit] vimes says (to Roger), "did you have any comments on my suggested aspects? Unswerving Clan Honor and Born To Rule"
[Spirit] GDorn says (to Roger), "eh. I was hoping to have that kind of magic be so subtle that it took 14 years for people to realize it was magic. to him, it's just normal. the downside to the aspect is that he never knows how much magic it actually takes or the tradeoffs for using the magic. so he could heal your cow, but the tradeoff is your baby gets eaten by a dingo, and he never knew what the cost would be."
[Spirit] Roger says (to vimes), "Those look pretty good; I assume you have a strong idea of what honour means to your particular clan."
[Spirit] Roger says (to GDorn), "Yeah that works for me too."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "(not that every single use of Waterfinding has that kind of price, he just has no idea if there's a price or not)"
[Spirit] vimes says, "Yeah, and I'll enumerate at some point"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "is phase 2 going to be 'your character goes on an adventure of some sort'?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Let's push onwards; the character generation process is presented as being fairly linear, but in my experience it's sort of iterative -- as the character grows in our minds, feel free to retcon stuff, edit, etc."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah, Phase 2 is basically when you (and probably everyone else) notices that you are Destined for Greatness and you won't be just some other schmuck turnip-farmer."
[Spirit] vimes says, "Onwards! Don't push too fast, I have to head out for a bit shortly and will be back later, and I don't want to miss the fun tying-characters-together parts."
[Spirit] vimes says, "The GREATEST TURNIP-FARMER IN THE WORLD"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Okay; thanks for all your contributions so far"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "I am imagining Lojban is content living out in his wilderness hut or whatever when there is some Invasion of the Fatherland and he fights off the intruders single-handedly."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Phase 2 often introduces a 'mentor' or 'patron' relationship for your character, but don't feel like you have to do that"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Lojban probably picks up his main animal companion / mount / friend sort of thing here"
[Spirit] Roger says, "So it's sort of the Young Indiana Jones phase, or the Anakin is becoming a Jerk phase, and whatnot."
[Spirit] Tack says, "Hmm"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Peter Parker is brilliant but doesn't get bitten by the spider until Phase 3, if that helps sorta place it within the narrative"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "well, yeah, this is probably the point where Joden gets banished from the banished and isn't allowed to be a turnip farmer anymore."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Tack if you were growing up in an orphanage, maybe here you get kicked out or join a gang or whatnot"
[Spirit] Tack says, "I was thinking something like Nimble Fingers - good at purloining things, bad at resisting the temptation"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Sticky Fingers"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Sure"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah totally works for me"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "okay, so it sounds like this is where Sylith catches the eye of the cult leader, who starts separating her from the rest of her circle"
[Spirit] Jearl says, ""He Showed Me Strange Books""
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Roger says (to Sylith), "Yeah, or maybe you find out you're Betrothed To Marry him or something equally terrible."
[Spirit] Jearl says, "oh, yeah"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "hmm. no, maybe Joden isn't banished yet. maybe this is where he starts discovering he has Real Powers."
[Spirit] GDorn says, ""Holy Crap, Did I Do That?""
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah, that sort of thing. Ha."
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] inky says, "well, I am taking No Challenge Is Too Great"
[Spirit] inky says, "but I am not sure about the other one"
[Spirit] inky says, "I guess I should wait to pick up the magic sword until 3"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Hmmm you could certainly introduce it here, inky."
[Spirit] inky says, "yeah? ok, then I am pencilling in "Wielder of""
[Spirit] inky says, "and waiting to think of a cool name"
[Spirit] vimes says (to inky), "shipstrangler"
[Spirit] Roger says, "SWORD OF D00D"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "Masamune."
[Spirit] Jearl says, "actually I want the cult to be seductive at this stage, so I'll go with A Strange New Friend and Arranged to Marry a Faraway Baronet"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah that works for me Jennifer."
[Spirit] inky says, "maybe The Reaving Blade"
[Spirit] vimes says, "I like it."
[Spirit] Roger says, "See you could get cute and have a Phase 2 aspect of 'Possessor of The Reaving Blade' and a Phase 3 aspect of 'Possessed by The Reaving Blade'"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Roger asks, "How is everyone else doing? Anyone really struggling or feeling lost?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "(I should be able to keep track but, alas.)"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "ok..."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "here..."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "(What's a non-Crom god of sorcerors and/or farmboys that I could substitute for 'Holy Crap'?)"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Mitra fits pretty well"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "This is where he picks up He-Who-Walks-With-Fire as his mentor, who tasks him to fight off the invaders of X (suggestions for X welcome) and in the process of accomplishing that he gets something crazy and badass like Fashions Spears From the Bones of His Enemies"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Or just use 'Stesticles"
[Spirit] vimes says, "I think maybe Just Like His Father, and Walked The Spirit-World Border, for Cain's coming-of-age vision quest with the magic mushrooms and the tribe shaman"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Dude, 'Just Like His Father' entirely rocks on toast"
[Spirit] Tack says, "I'm trying to think of a good name for what I'm thinking of, something like 'Hey, I Could Do That'"
[Spirit] vimes says, "yeah? yay!"
[Spirit] Roger says (to Ghogg), "Yeah definitely"
[Spirit] Roger says (to vimes), "And the other one works too"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "maybe I can connect X with someone else's plot?"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "like the Snake Cult or something"
[Spirit] Roger says (to Tack), "Hmmm. Something like 'Beginner's Luck' maybe"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Good at picking up skills and tactics I see other people use, maybe a little too prone to trying them out despite not knowing them well yet"
[Spirit] Roger says, "'Orphan see, orphan do'"
[Spirit] GDorn says, ""I Call Upon Mitra To... Wait, What Just Happened?""
[Spirit] Tack says, "Hmm, I was thinking particularly of imitating others"
[Spirit] inky says (to Roger), "ha ha"
[Spirit] inky says, ""Let me try that!""
[Spirit] Roger says, "That Doesn't Look So Hard"
[Spirit] Tack says (to inky), "Sure"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Oh, I like Roger's even better"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "however, if anyone else has a character enemy they want to have their bones made into spears, feel free to volunteer"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Iason returns.
[Spirit] Tack says, "Of course, That Doesn't Look So Hard has to be followed by the That's What She Said aspect"
[Spirit] Iason asks, "Hmm, what's a good more-specific variant of 'quick study'?"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to Tack), "hee hee"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Ha ha"
[Spirit] vimes says (to Iason), "Well, That Wasn't So Hard After All"
[Spirit] vimes says, "(Followed up again by "That's What She Said")"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Mind like a Steel Trap"
[Spirit] vimes says, "(Rusty And Illegal Most Places)"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Heh."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "I'm at a loss for a second aspect at this point. Aside from getting Real Magic, something else heroic must be happened, but I have no idea what."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "so, recap: Lojban the Destroyer, living with animals in the wild since the age of 5, Hard to Kill, Talks With Animals, Communes With He-He-Walks-With-Fire, and Fashions Spears From the Bones of His Enemies."
[Spirit] Roger says (to Ghogg), "Looks pretty good to me."
[Spirit] inky says (to GDorn), "you could take a personality trait, or a relationship"
[Spirit] GDorn says, ""I Would Have Married That Girl""
[Spirit] inky says, "oho"
[Spirit] Roger says (to Gdorn), "Hmmm. Yeah, it doesn't necessarily have to be 'Heroic' per se. Or you can leave it blank for now. Or, yeah, teen angst always works."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "I'm guess a later phase involves something like Has Difficulty With Words Of More Than One Syllable and Scares Children"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "teen angst is better when your betrothed gets banished with you and dies in the Endless Wastes."
[Spirit] vimes says, "I imagine Cain's father dies somewhere late in phase 2 / early in phase 3"
[Spirit] Roger asks, "How are people feeling about moving forward?"
[Spirit] Tack says, "FORWARD"
[Spirit] inky says, "onwards!"
[Spirit] vimes says, "great! but I'm gone for a bit."
[Spirit] Tack says impetuously
[Spirit] vimes says, "back as soon as I can. Feel free to suggest tie-ins for Cain to other characters if you want as you go."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Sure; thanks."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "maybe we should have a summary of characters so we'll have an easier time tying them together."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Okay, so Phase 3 is the first tale or story or song about you."
[Spirit] Roger says, "(They don't cross over quite yet, but I"
[Spirit] Roger says, "I'll try to prep that up)"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "(ah, okay)"
[Spirit] Tack says, "'I Wonder What Happens If I Push This Button'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "So we basically need a title, yeah, and a shortish 'back cover' blurb that sketches out the general arc."
[Spirit] Roger says, "In the later phases, other heroes will show up and 'guest star' in your song, so you don't need to overspecify it too much."
[Spirit] Iason asks, "In this one, right?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "In phases 4 and 5 that happens (they're the same phase twice, basically)"
[Spirit] Tack asks, "Oh, the title of a story?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "In this phase you're all on your own."
[Spirit] Iason says, "Right, but other people will guest star in the story we're coming up with now."
[Spirit] Iason says, "(iirc)"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah so we can all go, Oh, it's Tack -- I remember you from such bards' tales as Tack Versus Vitamin Deficiency"
[Spirit] inky says, "Lord Everard in .. THE VAMPIRE ROSE"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "Lojban the Destroyer vs. The Demon-Beast of Yucca Flats"
[Spirit] inky says, "Spending the night in a small village inn Lord Everard hears tales of a mysterious imprisoned princess and swears to track this legend to its source"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Well, my greatest feats were probably from The Lizard-King's Tomb"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "The Slaughter in The Fane"
[Spirit] Roger says, "This is probably going to be kinda crazy so I'm just going to let y'all run with this for a while"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "Joden Goes To Hell."
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Aspect: Lovely Handbasket"
[Spirit] inky asks, "are we supposed to give a blurb?"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "At the age of 16 Lojban is tasked with the sacred quest of purging the world of all demons in animal form. So: Tasked With Sacred Quest. His first encounter is with a beast who has been terrorizing a local village, but to find out information about where it is located he needs to interact with actual people, invoking Has Difficulty With Words Of More Than One Syllable."
[Spirit] Roger says, "If you're ready with one, sure, let's see it."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Man Of Few Words is good too"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "And more convienent to type"
[Spirit] Roger says, "or Tongue-Tied, or you know"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "nah, Man Of Few Words works."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Are you the Man of Few Words? Yes. Really? Yes. REALLY? Yes."
[Spirit] Tack says, "'*REALLY*??' '...'"
[Spirit] inky says, "I think this adventure showed I am Dauntless but I am not sure what else"
[Spirit] Iason | Iason (the Adept of Dusk) vs. the Volcano God [Spirit] Iason |
[Spirit] Iason | Magma Men from the nearby Adagdak Volcano are threatening the village! While his mentor (_____) holds them at bay, Iason is sent to stop them at the source. He finds a [beastman?] cult trying to awaken the volcano god! Disrupting their ritual, the volcano erupts, and Iason barely escapes with his life.
[Spirit] inky says, "I guess Prone To Making Oaths"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "Has A Thing For Imprisoned Princesses"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] inky says, "yeah, maybe that's Chivalrous"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "A cautionary tale. Sylith runs away with her lover to avoid traveling into the barbaric northlands to marry a petty noble. Her seducer intends instead to give her body and soul to the the Scaled Lord Serrinash"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "In which Joden, fleeing his village in fear, loses his betrothed to the devouring scarab beasts of the Endless Wastes and pursues her soul into the Land of the Dead."
[Spirit] Jearl asks, "is this phase supposed to reflect the adventurer I'm playing or the person I was in the past?"
[Spirit] Iason | ;..Jearl How does she escape?
[Spirit] GDorn says, "I'm losing interest in the fiance' thing, though."
[Spirit] Iason says, "(whoops)"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "maybe it's his mom, instead."
[Spirit] inky says, "I think this phase 3 is supposed to complete your transformation"
[Spirit] inky says, "because I believe phase 4 and 5 have other people interacting with your phase 3"
[Spirit] inky says, "or maybe I'm off by a phase"
[Spirit] Iason asks, "Oh, so post-escape or what have you?"
[Spirit] Roger says (to Jearl), "Well, they should be Aspects that you want to see coming up and using when we play for real"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Against his better judgment, Tack ventures into the Tomb of the Priests, determined to bring back a bauble for a girl he's trying to impress. He sets off a deadly trap while retrieving it, and is forced to leave it behind to make his escape. Because he has no evidence of his daring adventure, no one believes his story afterward :("
[Spirit] inky says (to Tack), "ha ha"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Aspect: Prone to Emoticons"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "ah. But while she is being ritually prepared Sylith's charm and innocence causes an ambivalent cultist to botch the ceremony. Sylith frees herself from the ritual while the demon is still entering her body (what's the MPAA rating on this adventure?) - but not before she is forever changed"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "instinctively she slaughtered all of the attending cultists"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "By Dark Hands Guided and But I'm Still Hot"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha ha ha"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Haha"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Ha ha yay"
[Spirit] inky says, "although those are both really good"
[Spirit] Roger says, "No you can't ALL be in Jearl's novel"
[Spirit] Iason says, "OK, slight change so others have the possibility of joining in: | Magma Men from the nearby Adagdak Volcano are threatening Iason's former village! While his old mentor (_____) holds them at bay, Iason's mother sends a desperate message to him to come help! Iason returns and travels to the volcano, where he finds a [beastman?] cult trying to awaken the volcano god! Disrupting their ritual, the volcano erupts, and Iason barely escapes with his life."
[Spirit] Roger says (to inky), "I think I missed some of your blurb, unless it was pretty short"
[Spirit] inky says, "yeah, it was"
[Spirit] inky says, "I didn't have an idea for a resolution or anything"
[Spirit] Roger exclaims, "That's okay! Better than okay, even!"
[Spirit] inky says, "I guess I could try to think of something more focused"
[Spirit] Tack says, "So I'll take 'I Wonder What This Does' and hmm, something about needing to impress girls"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "that's where YOU, THE DETECTIVE come in"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Since there are still major characters to introduce, etc."
[Spirit] Roger says, "I'm going to #pastebomb in what I have so far from everyone"
[Spirit] Iason asks, "Literally? Should I join that channel?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah I'd recommedn it"
[Spirit] inky says, "or recap it in a sec"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Or that, yeah"
[Spirit] GDorn asks, "Right, I need the Big Event that makes him flee for his life. Maybe there's been six months of drought, people are dying, and he realizes he can do something about it. He summons up some rain, but it gets out of hand and causes a flash flood, some lightning-related deaths, etc. Sure, it fixes the rain problem, but it's the final straw. He flees, seeing the lynch mob forming, and brings what's left of his family (a younger brother? a parent?) with him into the Endless Wastes. Sadly, whoever is travelling with him gets eaten by ?? in the night. At which point he, uh, wanders aimlessly or something. Is popping into Hades too silly?"
[pastebomb] Roger says, "Incoming from #spirit (long one, too)"
[pastebomb] Roger says, "(that's what she said)"
[pastebomb] Roger says, "Lord Everard in .. THE VAMPIRE ROSE"
[pastebomb] Roger says, "Spending the night in a small village inn Lord Everard hears tales of a mysterious imprisoned princess and swears to track this legend to its source"

Instinctively she slaughtered all of the attending cultists""
[Spirit] Roger says, "Hrm that wasn't formatted very nicely; sorry everyone"
[Spirit] Iason says, "(what's the option to recap conversations instead of lines?)"
[Spirit] GDorn suggests a wiki.
[Spirit] Tack says, "I changed my story from The Lizard-King's Tomb to Tomb of the Priests along the way"
[Spirit] Roger says, "I'll probably just keep cramming stuff into henchmonkey"
[Spirit] inky says (to Iain), "@recap -conv #pastebomb might work"
[Spirit] inky says, "er, Iason"
[Spirit] inky says, "man"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Ha"
[Spirit] Roger says, "I'll just randomize up who is going to be in what books"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Hmm, maybe 'I bet she'll love this' or something for my second"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Leaving a slot open for Cain the Exile"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Well, can I be the ambivalent cultist in Jearl's? That fits with my idea of my origin story."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Or we could do it non-randomized if people are feeling like they know where they want to go"
[Spirit] Iason asks, "A few non-random and the rest randomized?"
[Spirit] Roger says (to Tack), "Never Known the Love of a Woman"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Sure I can handle that"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "yeah, I need some external help. I tend to paint myself into totally isolated stories that nobody else can fit into."
[Spirit] Iason says, "Heh."
[Spirit] Tack says, "Hmm, that's a different direction"
[Spirit] inky says, "s/Love/Touch"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Well yes"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Or s/Scent"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "Aspect: "I Was Just Trying To Help""
[Spirit] inky says, "he lost his nose in the tomb of a priest king"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Not Sure What a Woman Looks Like"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Ha ha"
[Spirit] inky says, "we could generate the matchups randomly and then people could trade"
[Spirit] Tack says, "I have to run in a few, but if you assign matchups soon I'll ponder mine"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yep pretty soon"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "I'm ok with whatever story"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "since Lojban can be just wandering destroying things"
[Spirit] Iason says, "If nobody minds, terribly, I'll take the 'conflicted acolyte' role from Sylith's story, and say that when she went beserk, I slunk into the shadows and watched her destroy everyone. Aspects: 'Secret crush on Sylith' and 'Fly on the wall'."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "yeah, Joden does a fair bit of wandering, so could easily be paired up to take down the Cult of the Scarab Feeders"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Okay; 7-line paste-bomb incoming here"
[Spirit] Roger says, "inky in Jearl's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Ghogg in dfan's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "dfan in inky's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "GDorn in lpsmith's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "lpsmith in vimes'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Jearl in Ghogg's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "vimes in GDorn's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "So trade amongst yourselves as desired"
[Spirit] inky asks (of Roger), "are you going to do this twice?"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Those two are fine with me"
[Spirit] inky asks, "or are we supposed to resolve this round first and then do it again?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "There'll be another round of this so I imagine the characters will know each other fairly well"
[Spirit] Roger says (to inky), "Yeah the latter I think"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "dfan, can you recap yours?"
[Spirit] Iason says (to Roger), "Yeah, put me in Jearl's the second round."
[Spirit] Tack says (to Ghogg), "I dunno if you ran into me looting the tomb or in the framing story or what"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Feel free to take some of it to pages/whispers or whatnot"
[Spirit] Tack | Against his better judgment, Tack ventures into the Tomb of the Priests, determined to bring back a bauble for a girl he's trying to impress. He sets off a deadly trap while retrieving it, and is forced to leave it behind to make his escape. Because he has no evidence of his daring adventure, no one believes his story afterward :(
[Spirit] Iason asks, "Which character is vimes, again?"
[Spirit] inky says, "vimes is the last of his tribe and cursed"
[Spirit] Roger says, "vimes is Cain the Exile of Tengwar Clan"
[Spirit] inky says, "but I believe he didn't have a story yet"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah he kinda missed that phase"
[Spirit] Tack asks (of inky), "Yours is just 'Spending the night in a small village inn Lord Everard hears tales of a mysterious imprisoned princess and swears to track this legend to its source' so far?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "I guess you can press on to being in Jearl's book as part of the last phase"
[Spirit] inky says (to Tack), "yeah"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Let me see what clever things I can do for the last phase so everyone has something to do"
[Spirit] inky says (to Tack), "I am kind of assuming that I get in trouble and you save the day somehow"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "well, I can fit pretty easily into Iason's story. the beastman cult's trying to awaken the volcano god, captures whoever it is I'm travelling with, tosses him/her in as a sacrifice..."
[Spirit] Ghogg asks (of Tack), "Is the Tomb of the Priests abandoned, or are there Priests there?"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "(I can run with either, it'll just be different depending)"
[Spirit] Tack says, "It's a tomb, so all priests in it are either dead or undead"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Maybe there are some live ones in the facility above it"
[Spirit] Tack says, "that I had to sneak past"
[Spirit] Iason asks (of GDorn), "So I meet you on my way to disrupt the ritual?"
[Spirit] Tack says, "OK, gotta run"
[Spirit] Iason asks, "And we go in together?"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "Ghogg's questing at killing all demons in animal form, so I might naturally fit into that as a crazed enemy, Ghogg defeats me and I turn into a human woman again"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Feel free to drop me mudmail or regular email, and I'll check henchmonkey"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "So, Lojban was following a tip leading to a map scrawled on the wall of the Tomb when Tack does his infiltration. Tack survives the deadly trap because Lojban uses his Hard to Kill aspect -- like, holding open the giant stone door that is rolling closed"
[Spirit] Roger exclaims (at Tack), "Thanks for everything!"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "and for some crazy reason he lets me live"
[Spirit] Tack says (to Ghogg), "That sounds like a cool direction"
[Spirit] Iason says, "GEE I DON'T KNOW WHY HE'D DO THAT"
[Spirit] Roger says, "For people who are looking ahead, here's the Phase 5 matchups"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "like I Wrapped Him Around My Finger or somethng"
[Spirit] GDorn says (to Iason), "that's a possibility. We're both on the way the volcano, run into each other, try to stop the ritual, mess things up..."
[Spirit] Roger says, "lpsmith in Jearl's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Ghogg in lpsmith's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "dfan in GDorn's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "GDorn in inky's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "inky in Ghogg's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Jearl in vimes'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "vimes in dfan's"
[Spirit] Tack says, "Later all"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to Jearl), "that's all good"
[Spirit] Jearl asks, "is Phase 5 the same story or a new one?"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Same story, I believe."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Same story, yeah"
[Spirit] inky says, "hmm, I'm not really sure how I would fit into Jearl's"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Maybe you were invited to the wedding"
[Spirit] inky asks (of Jearl), "I guess I am charging in to save you from the ritual and show up too late?"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Iason asks (of inky), "Maybe you find her afterwards?"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "likely inky's Chivalry will kick in when he hears about the Demon-Beast of Yucca Flats and he helps out somehow, possibly filling in the gap left by Man Of Few Words"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Or you could harbour her when she runs away"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "that would work. You arrive in the aftermath of the slaughter and maybe have to kill other cultists or something"
[Spirit] Roger says, "And then turn her over for the huge reward"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Jearl asks, "vimes isn't here, right?"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Yeah."
[Spirit] Roger says, "He had to run off for a bit I'm afraid yes"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I guess I'll get his story later then"
[Spirit] Iason says (to Jearl), "Oh, we're both in vimes's? Hmm."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "for Lojban in Iason's story, obviously he can fit in the beastman cult somewhere"
[Spirit] Roger says, "I'd guess that Cain's tale is going to be about his tribe getting wiped out"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "like, let's say he has infiltrated the group and is a bodyguard?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Sure, or he was his guide to the volcano, or some such"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "and when Iason does his butt-kicking thing, Lojban decides the moment is right to turn and helps out, and they both escape the lava flow by his summoning a giant tiger which they both ride to safety"
[Spirit] Roger says, "I should also mention that it's okay for Aspects to reference other PCs"
[Spirit] Roger says, "s/tiger/eagles"
[Spirit] Iason says (to Ghogg), "GDorn was also with me, don't forget."
[Spirit] Iason says, "Also, ha eagles."
[Spirit] Ghogg asks (of Roger), "hey, could we actually?"
[Spirit] Iason exclaims, "Rocs!"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Soooo... thanks everyone for coming out; this was a blast (for me, anyway, but then again I didn't have to do all the hard work.) I'll still be around in channel for a while and otherwise around for questions here and on the henchmonkey forum."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Absolutely you can have giant eagles."
[Spirit] Iason says, "We can pick up some milk while we're there."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "ok, so he summons giant eagles and they ride off"
[Spirit] Roger says, "There's still Skills to do, but we can do that later I think."
[Spirit] Iason asks, "Oh, can we at least divvy up our top skills so there's not a ton of overlap?"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "I have no idea what aspects go with all of that though"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Oh yeah. Sure I guess we can talk about that, or all y'all can talk about that."
[Spirit] Iason says, "Like, I assume GDorn is going to take Mysteries up there somewhere, so I'll probably take something else."
[Spirit] Roger says, "I might guess that Tack is going to have some Stealth and maybe Deceit"
[Spirit] Iason says (to Ghogg), "'Nick of time'? 'Infiltrator',"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "Nick of Time sounds good"
[Spirit] inky says, "you can see skills at, eg, http://zork.net/~nick/loyhargil/fate3/fate3.html#id11"
[Spirit] inky says, "(left column only)"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah. And also after skills there's stunts I guess, but they kinda fall out of the skills in some ways."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "Infiltrator might be more like, hm, more like Chameleon or something"
[Spirit] Iason says, "(I'm taking 'Damn the consequences!' for my own story--I don't care the volcano's going to erupt, this ritual needs to be stopped!)"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Just Another Chicken"
[Spirit] inky asks, "hmm, are any of you guys talky guys?"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Oh, right, and we can take aspects that relate to each other."
[Spirit] inky says, "because if not I guess I should be a talky one"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Sylith does all her talking with her nubility."
[Spirit] Iason says (to inky), "Not I."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Don't feel like you really /need/ to have a talky face guy if you don't want one; Conan does fine with just grunting."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "For story #1 I guess an aspect that relates to the map thing, and an aspect that relates to Tack, maybe they save each other in quick succession so they owe a Life Saving Debt or something, but he needs to be here to ask about that"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I think I have some social skills, but not universally applicable"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "like if I can apply nubility"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "it would admittedly be amusing if everyone's social skills were impaired in some way"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "so the times we do have to be social are a comedy of errors"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I need to actually learn the rules and think about how my demonosity works"
[Spirit] inky says, "for the upsides of it you could just take high skills and stunts that let you hit stuff hard and ignore pain and so on"
[Spirit] Roger says, "It's sorta interesting how a number of characters arose that I would characterize as 'Sorcerer' types. (The Ron Edwards game)"
[Spirit] Iason says, "I think I'm going with Fists and Stealth as two of my top three; for the last one I'll either take Mysteries (if that doesn't overlap too much with other people) or maybe Sleight of Hand if it does."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "I think for my story #2 one Nick of Time and Disguise of Nature, so he can pretend to be a beast-man or something like that easily but it isn't universally applicable"
[Spirit] inky asks (of Ghogg), "hmm, what was your story about again?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Many Faces of Nature"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Master of Disguise. Turtle turtle."
[Spirit] inky says, "I guess I probably team up with you to kill demons then"
[Spirit] Iason says, "That was the one where he joined mine and was secretly infiltrating the beastman volcano cult."
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to inky), "on his sacred quest to kill all demons in human form, his first quarry is the Demon-Beast of Yucca Flats"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to inky), "er, animal form"
[Spirit] inky says, "maybe I fight a human guy who is involved somehow"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "Sylith would have Deceit, certainly. Not sure how to model uncontrollable violence"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "and he needs to go to the terrorized farmworkers to find info but his Man of Few Words comes out"
[Spirit] inky says, "aha"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to Roger), "and I like Many Faces of Nature"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "Master of Disguise implies he could pretend to be a noble or something"
[Spirit] GDorn asks, "what's the difference between the 4th and 5th phases?"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to Gdorn), "none, it's just rotating which story you're in"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "okay."
[Spirit] Jearl asks, "I'm a little confused - is this all in the Novel or are we coming up with multiple stories to co-star in?"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "yeah, in the regular SotC, each player just has one story and co-stars in two others."
[Spirit] inky says, "I think every story ends up having three people"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to inky), "also Jearl is a snake-woman that gets slain somewhere in the same story"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "ah, okay, this is the same, I'm just reading it funny because we're not merging stories, we're co-starring in other stories."
[Spirit] inky says, "yeah"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to GDorn), "it's kind of like a regular Conan novel"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "I guess I probably need to come up with more story."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah -- the first name is the co-starring character, the second name's the one whose novel it is"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks (of inky), "um, how about she tempts Lojban and your character comes in and slays, or vice versa?"
[Spirit] Iason says, "You can also improvise more details of your stories during play."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "and that's how they hook up"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "I'm kinda stuck after the whole getting driven out of town thing."
[Spirit] Iason says, "'Let's do the same thing we did with those beastmen!'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Driven out of town, falls down a hole into Hell"
[Spirit] inky says, "only backwards"
[Spirit] Iason asks, "Driven out of town, finds and defeats the evil spirit that had cursed your village, but you Can Never Return?"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "hmm. yeah, that could work. but also somebody gets eaten."
[Spirit] Roger exclaims, "Your betrothed!"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Or if you want it more as a goal, finds and defeats a minion of the evil spirit that cursed your village, and now you want to defeat the spirit itself."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Also your village is Innsmouth."
[Spirit] Jearl says, "well, to flesh out my story post escape, I'll say that I flee into the northern wasts, blood-maddened, until defeated by heroes and returned to human form. Now I adventure because I have nowhere else to go and I am compelled by dark urges to search for Something."
[Spirit] GDorn says (to Roger), "I was kinda thinking something like that - the village/tribe/whatever has a Dark Secret, and they're kicking Joden out more because he's an expression of that Dark Secret and they just want it to go away."
[Spirit] Roger says, "'Dark Urges' is a pretty hot Aspect."
[Spirit] Jearl says, "or they're in on it"
[Spirit] inky says, "hunh, interesting"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to Jearl), "we can say you're hanging around the village in league with the Demon-Beast trying to slay any heroes that might dare rise to threaten it, and that's how you come across Lojban/Lord Everard"
[Spirit] Roger says, "The demon in Jearl and the demon in inky's sword could be two halves of the same demon."
[Spirit] Jearl says (to Ghogg), "that works"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "huh"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "could, say, the demon not be in inky's sword until *after* he kills her?"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "now with more demon"
[Spirit] inky says (to Ghogg), "ok, that could be pretty interesting"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Ifrit Inside"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "So, like, she's tempting Lojban, and for some reason Lord Everard sees her true form, likely due to his Chivalry and purity and whatnot, so he stabs her and the demon flees into the blade"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "well, I think the demon is defeated but I'm still demon-haunted for the future game"
[Spirit] Ghogg asks, "ok, just some sort of demon-taint?"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "but it may still awaken the sword's curse"
[Spirit] Roger says, "I can see Lojban having some sort of detect-unnatural-freakiness aspect like 'That Ain't Right' or some such, if you want"
[Spirit] inky writes down Taint of the Reaving Blade aspect
[Spirit] Iason says, "Sweet."
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "ok, trait recap: Hard to Kill, Talks With Animals, Communes With He-Who-Walks-With-Fire, Fashions Spears Out of the Bones of His Enemies, Tasked with Sacred Quest to Slay Demons in Animal Form, Geography Sense, Saved-by-and-Saved Tack, Nick of Time, Many Faces of Nature."
[Spirit] Jearl says, "So my Phase 4 aspects are Must Keep Moving and Urge to Kill, Rising"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] inky says, "I will put down Sees the Unseen for the other one"
[Spirit] inky says, "maybe that helped spot what was up with Jearl"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "so to recap: Innocent of the Ways of the World, Wrapped Around Her Finger"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "A Strange New Friend, Betrothed to a Distant Baronet, By Dark Hands Guided, But I'm Still Hot, Must Keep Moving, Urge to Kill, Rising"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "hmm, some of mine are sort of doubles. I think I need to let this smmer for awhile"
[Spirit] inky asks, "how did you end up two short?"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "haven't done pahe 5 yet"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "the problem with trying to use the betrothed to get into other stories is that I end up with the Aspect: "On A Never-Ending Quest To Save My Girlfriend""
[Spirit] Jearl says, "phase"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "waiting for vimes' story"
[Spirit] inky says, "aha"
[Spirit] Ghogg says (to GDorn), "Itsa me, Mario"
[Spirit] Iason has 'Secrets of the Snake Cult', 'woods/swimming/something jungle-related', 'Mind like a Steel Trap', 'I Interned with Evil', 'Secret Crush on Sylith', 'Fly on the Wall', 'Damn the Consequences!', and 'Not on My Watch!'
[Spirit] Jearl says, "do you have a boomerang"
[Spirit] Iason says, "With, yeah, a couple more from vimes."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Jungle Fever"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Ha ha"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha "I interned with evil""
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I guess it's more playable if I change Strange New Friend back to He Showed Me Strange Books"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Full of human/demon slashfic"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I do seem to have the porniest novel"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "yeah, I need a Goal to be the driving force to get me into the other stories."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "other than "wander a bunch""
[Spirit] Roger says, "Maybe he wants more magic or wants to understand the magic he already has, or something like that"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Maybe you Have No Soul"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "I'm at risk of making this a copy of my rolemaster character, who is a hedge wizard from a tiny tribe, out looking for knowledge as part of his 'training'"
[Spirit] Iason asks (of Jearl), "So was your betrothed the same guy that was my mentor, or was he from your original village?"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "the betrothed is some guy I've never met. The cultist who seduced and kidnapped me could be your mentor"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "the betrothat caused me to want to run away with the cultist"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "betrothal"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Ah, got it."
[Spirit] GDorn says, "maybe he's trying to track down the Dark Secret that the town is cursed with. Aspect: "They Know Not What They Do""
[Spirit] inky says, "man, 15 skills is a lot to assign"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "is there a list of skills appropriate for this type of game? I'm looking at the link of all of them and they're pretty modern"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Most of the changes are (I hope) fairly obvious; Guns becomes Bows, Pilot becomes Ride, that sort of thing."
[Spirit] inky says, "well, call Burglary Thieving"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "hokay"
[Spirit] inky says, "oh, is Pilot Ride? I was assuming Drive -> Ride, Pilot -> Sail"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Yeah, whatever"
[Spirit] inky says, "I guess if I just write down Ride it'll be fine"
[Spirit] Roger says, "That probably makes more sense I guess"
[Spirit] Roger says, "And handy if you want to careen around the corner with your horse up on two legs"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "ah, there. okay. he fled town, including his family and his fiance' (who hated him once it was revealed he was a sorceror). his brother went with him, against Joden's wishes, and got himself killed by the Cult of the Scarab, which feeds people to scarab beetles. he vowed vengeance on the Cult and utterly destroyed them, only to find that they were worshipping a beetle demon that's a minion of some evil spirit that originally cursed his village. He's now trying to hunt down that spirit and lift the curse."
[Spirit] inky says, "freakin' beetle demon"
[Spirit] Roger says, "It's name is Yoko"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "in his search for this spirit, he made a guest appearance at the Volcano (Iason's story) and then did something in inky's story."
[Spirit] GDorn asks, "inky is lojban?"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "oh"
[Spirit] Roger says, "inky is Everard"
[Spirit] GDorn asks, "how did I end up getting involved in a vampire hunt?"
[Spirit] inky says, "I have sort of an unfinished story about hearing about a mysterious imprisoned princess"
[Spirit] inky says, "I'm not sure it's a vampire hunt"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "or, you know, save the princess story"
[Spirit] inky says, "I'm actually not even sure there's an actual princess"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "heh."
[Spirit] GDorn asks, "evil demon princess?"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "it's like in Bard's Tale 2 where the princess is actually a goblin"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "but you only find out WHEN IT'S TOO LATE"
[Spirit] (from Roger) Ghogg says, "IN THE MORNING"
[Spirit] Ghogg says, "hee hee"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] inky says (to GDorn), "maybe you're looking for the princess because she's connected to the demon somehow"
[Spirit] inky says, "and I hear about it from you"
[Spirit] Roger says, "She spends her free time rolling up enormous dung balls"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "hmm. yeah, that could work, it should just be your pulp novel, not mine."
[Spirit] Roger says, "He shows up in like one paragraph. "Hi -- seen any scarab demons around? No? Okay bye then.""
[Spirit] GDorn says, "heh."
[Spirit] inky says, "hee hee"
[Spirit] Iason exclaims, "Good job, Everard! But the princess is in another castle!"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Am I right in thinking that my Mysteries are fairly different from GDorn's--mine is more mystic knowledge; speaking with snakes; arcane rituals; that kind of thing. While GDorn's (I believe) is more the spell-casting variety."
[Spirit] inky says, "well, if he just knows how to cast spells maybe he shouldn't be focusing on the mysteries skill then"
[Spirit] Iason asks (of inky), "Are you thinking some other skill?"
[Spirit] inky says, "hmm, I don't remember how magic works in this"
[Spirit] Iason says, "It's sort of the replacement Engineering, though Mysteries are basically the arcane Engineering analogue already."
[Spirit] Iason says, "(as a note, the suggested 'Gambling' replacement was 'Carousing'.)"
[Spirit] inky says, "just how hard can you party"
[Spirit] Roger says, "In The Tower of the Elephant, the story starts with Conan partying so hard he kills a guy"
[Spirit] inky says, "ha ha"
[Spirit] inky says, "critical success!"
[Spirit] vimes says, "ok, i'm back"
[Spirit] Iason exclaims, "Woo!"
[Spirit] Iason says (to vimes), "I'm in your story, so you have to write it ;-)"
[Spirit] vimes says, "ok, let's see. phase 2 was coming of age in the golden age of the Tengwar, blessed by the gods, rich harvests, undefeatable champions in battle, and so forth"
[Spirit] Iason asks, "What's his name, again?"
[Spirit] vimes says, "Cain the Exile, Last of the Tengwar"
[Spirit] vimes says, "so, father dies in a mighty struggle against some legendary beast"
[Spirit] vimes says, "Phase 3: Cain and the Mumblemumble Cult"
[Spirit] vimes says, "In which Cain starts out by proving himself the rightful chief of the Tengwar by defeating the great Beast of the Crimson Woods, and then leads his people into what should have been another glorious victory against the honorless Blacklegs - but the Mumblemumble Cult has gained influence with them, and the gods abandon the Tengwar."
[Spirit] Iason says, "If you want to connect to our existing cults, we have a snake cult and a beastman cult."
[Spirit] vimes says, "Beastman sounds interesting."
[Spirit] vimes asks, "They're both pulpish Cults Of Evil?"
[Spirit] Iason says, "(a beastman cult was trying to awaken a volcano god)"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Yeah, though fighting each other, too."
[Spirit] vimes says, "Well, sure. Evil contains the seeds of its own destruction and all."
[Spirit] Iason says, "Heh."
[Spirit] vimes says, "Ok, so maybe the Beast of the Ashen Woods instead, and it's the woods at the foot of the semi-dormant volcano"
[Spirit] vimes says, "and the beastman cult in fact had gained influence with the Blacklegs, granting them power and whatnot"
[Spirit] vimes says, "(unless there's an appropriate pre-existing tribe or clan to sub in for Blacklegs)"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Nah, we can't have *everything* related to everything else."
[Spirit] vimes says, "so, let's rename the novel Cain and the Ashen Curse"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "there's a lot of cults."
[Spirit] Iason says, "Plenty to go around."
[Spirit] vimes says, "that has a nice ring to it, better than "and then Cult of Whatever""
[Spirit] Iason says, "Yeah, I like it."
[Spirit] vimes says, "So, Cain kills the Beast of the Ashen Forest which killed his father, and in doing so is marked by the beast."
[Spirit] vimes says, "Then, normal every-day clan war against what should have been an easy target, but cult involvement means the Blacklegs utterly demolish the Tengwar, and go on to wipe out their entire clan, down to the last child."
[Spirit] Iason says, "'Marked by the Beast of the Ashen Woods sounds like a good aspect."
[Spirit] Iason says, "Whatever that might mean."
[Spirit] vimes says, "Cain is crucified and left, apparently dead, in the ruins of his village; his spirit seeks solace in the feasting halls of eternity or whatever and is denied. (Or, you know, that's what he experiences. It was probably just a hallucination. Hard to say for sure.)"
[Spirit] vimes says, "So, he wakes up, insensible from grief and rage and frustration, makes his way to the Blackleg village - where, by this time, the cult has moved on - and slaughters them."
[Spirit] vimes says, "They babble freely about the cult as he does so, and so his honor-bound need for vengeance transfers to the cult."
[Spirit] vimes says, "So, yeah, I'm thinking aspects like "Marked by the Beast of the Ashen Woods" and "Death is No Barrier to Revenge""
[Spirit] Iason asks, "Hmm. Is there room for co-stars in this?"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Sounds good to me"
[Spirit] Iason asks, "Maybe Sylith or I can talk you out of killing the Blacklegs and instead going after the real source, the cult?"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "or we could cut you down from being crucified"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "Sylith could be drawn to either scene of slaughter"
[Spirit] vimes says, "I like the latter idea better. Cain's not the sort to be talked out of that kind of revenge."
[Spirit] Jearl says, "and have A Spark of Compassion"
[Spirit] vimes says, "at least not at this point in his story"
[Spirit] vimes says, "Just Like His Father, his Unswerving Clan Honor demands blood for blood"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "so okay if I take that? the demon in me is drawn to bad hoodoo, which you villege has experienced. I cut you down and leave, oon the trail of the cult"
[Spirit] vimes says, "awesome."
[Spirit] Jearl says, "that ginves me A Spark of Compassion as an Aspect. I still need to think of one more, and deal with skills"
[Spirit] Iason asks (of Jearl), "Were we travelling together?"
[Spirit] vimes says, "Ok, so I need something to bring me back down from being a bloodlusted, blind with grief killing machine after I rip the Blacklegs into confetti"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I dunno. I think after I escape I leave a trail of destruction that leads to where Lojban defeats me"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "Lojbad/Everard"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "you could be on my trail, maybe"
[Spirit] vimes asks, "whose story am I gueststarring?"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Yeah, I'm thinking this is a few years past the other stories so far."
[Spirit] vimes says, "whose stories"
[Spirit] Roger says, "Could be the same cult in both the Iason and Cain stories."
[Spirit] Iason asks (of vimes), "Maybe I step in as you're about to kill the last child, and we have an epic battle in the ruins of the village?"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "I see thews a-poppin'"
[Spirit] vimes asks (of Iason), "can I get the blurbs from your story to that point?"
[Spirit] Iason asks, "My role in your story, or my own story?"
[Spirit] vimes says, "your own story. I forget who/what you are."
[Spirit] Iason says, "My guy is the guy that disrupted the ritual and allowed Sylith to go free; my own story is: | Magma Men from the nearby Adagdak Volcano are threatening Iason's former village! While his old mentor (_____) holds them at bay, Iason's mother sends a desperate message to him to come help! Iason returns and travels to the volcano, where he finds a beastman cult trying to awaken the volcano god! Disrupting their ritual, the volcano erupts, and Iason barely escapes with his life."
[Spirit] vimes says, ";Yay Magma Men!"
[Spirit] vimes says, "I like linking the cults"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "you're basically a bil ol' ritual-disrupter guy"
[Spirit] Jearl says, "big"
[Spirit] Iason says, "(I was accompanied by two other PCs; GDorn whose friend the beastmen had captured as a sacrifice, and Ghogg who had infiltrated the cult and summoned giant eagles to fly us away at the end)"
[Spirit] vimes says, "ok, so here's a great idea for our epic battle"
[Spirit] Iason says (to Jearl), "Hey, you're right."
[Spirit] vimes says, "tell me what you think:"
[Spirit] vimes says, "I'm about to slaughter the last child. You step in to stop me, and we have an epic battle. At the height of the battle, I've become confused, and thought you were in fact trying to destroy the town, so I grab the child and flee."
[Spirit] Iason says, "Sure, I'm with you."
[Spirit] Jota says, "Huh. This SotC game that I haven't really been paying attention to seems to be pretty popular."
[Spirit] Roger says, "It's not too late to jump on the bandwagon"
[Spirit] Jota says, "Heh. Nah, not this time."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Okay; yeah, the response does seem to be pretty strong, at least for character generation."
[Spirit] Iason asks (of vimes), "What happens after that?"
[Spirit] Iason says, "I follow, thinking you're trying to kill the kid still..."
[Spirit] vimes says, "obviously the cult should be involved at that point"
[Spirit] vimes says, "someone who isn't either of us to be like 'hey, kid! *slice*'"
[Spirit] Roger says, "The last kid turns out to be a demon in disguise who attacks both of you"
[Spirit] vimes says, "oh, there you go"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Ha"
[Spirit] vimes says, "and then I'll be all like "SEE? SEE?""
[Spirit] Iason says, "Maybe the cult's plan all along was for you to kill the villagers."
[Spirit] vimes says, "the Power of the Ashen Beast is required to awaken the volcano god, except you screwed up their ritual already"
[Spirit] Iason says, "This could be post-that, and they're trying to find another way to awaken him (or to awaken a different god--the ones of Tengwar? The ancient evil gods of Tengwar?)"
[Spirit] vimes says, "Sure. They're trying to...corrupt the power of Tengwar's gods."
[Spirit] vimes asks, "Which they have to do by corrupting the champion?"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Maybe since you were the one Marked by the Beast, they were trying to make you go insane/trick you into joining them."
[Spirit] Iason says, "Hey, I like your corrupting idea."
[Spirit] vimes says, "And they know more about the Ashen Beast than I do - I figure, based on what happened right after the hunt, that the mark is /bad/."
[Spirit] vimes says, "But in fact it's just a sign of Cain being the chosen champion of Tengwar's gods."
[Spirit] Roger says, "You guys are putting a lot of pressure on me to make the adventure as awesome as everyone's novels"
[Spirit] Roger says, "But it's a good sort of pressure"
[Spirit] GDorn says, "well, I'm sure the players will bring some awesome to the table, too."
[Spirit] vimes says, "As long as you allow some similar flexibility in the adventure, I'm sure we'll be able to combine our awesome and yours"
[Spirit] vimes asks, "alright, so do we have enough for you to get your guest-appearance aspects?"
[Spirit] vimes asks, "and sufficient storyline from mine for Roger's pleasure?"
[Spirit] Iason asks, "So, like, if you had killed the kid/demon in the frenzy, he would have been able to posess you, but since you tried to save him and then later only killed him in self-defense, their plans were thwarted?"
[Spirit] vimes says, "yes, exactly"
[Spirit] Iason says, "Sounds good. I'll try to come up with some Aspects for that, then."
[Spirit] Roger says, "Good deal"
[Spirit] lpsmith says, "Hmm, OK. Which of these should be "Good" instead of "Fair"? Athletics, Alertness, Survival, Intimidation, Endurance."
[Spirit] lpsmith says, "I guess one way to decide would be to pick the one that's not in anyone else's top three."
[Spirit] Jota asks, "What was your character concept?"
[Spirit] lpsmith says, "Reformed snake priest acolyte."
[Spirit] inky says, "you didn't seem like a survival guy to me"
[Spirit] inky says, "unless you hang out in the wild as a snake priest"
[Spirit] Jota says, "Hung."
[Spirit] lpsmith says (to Jota), "That's rather personal."
[Spirit] vimes says, "hee hee"
[Spirit] inky says, "his anaconda don't want none -- never mind"
[Spirit] vimes says, "I'd go with intimidation in your position"
[Spirit] Jota says, "(Unless 'reformed' just indicates his particular sect -- 'New Reformed Snake Priestdom of Klekt')"
[Spirit] lpsmith asks, "Hey, wanna see why they call us 'snake priests'?"
[Spirit] Jota says, "Ha."
[Spirit] lpsmith says (to Jota), "Ha ha"
[Spirit] inky says, "I put Everard up here, although I'll probably tweak it some: http://www.inky.org/rpg/chars/everard.txt"
[Spirit] inky says, "I guess for one thing I need to find out what happened on my adventure with dfan and GDorn"
[Spirit] lpsmith says (to inky), "I see you built up that sword a lot."
[Spirit] lpsmith says, "Nice."
