Garrick Duto

Garrick grew up on the streets of Crail, running with the gangs and avoiding the
Falcons... until one day he was caught.  The local captain offered him a choice:
join as a recruit, or go before a judge.  His time in the Falcons was the best
time in his life: the comraderie was what he'd been looking for in the gangs,
and the chance to help the people he'd grown up near was too good to resist.

However, he had one small problem: he couldn't keep his mouth shut.  After the
dozenth time he criticized his superiors, he was told to get out and stay out.
(It hadn't helped any that he was right when he told them their schemes would
never work).  After drifting for a while, he joined the crew of a small skyjunk,
and was shocked to learn that not all of the good they were carrying had been
noted for the export duty.  He stayed on, and eventually rose to command his own
ship, with his own hidden compartments for extra cargo.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end.  In Garrick's case, it was when
agents of the Barathi Empire found some duzha crystals he had neglected to
declare.  In the judgement against him, they confiscated not only the crystals
but his entire ship and cargo.  His crew deserted him, except for his loyal
bosun, Toth, a mute giant who can intimidate an unruly crew (or anyone else!)
without saying a word.
