[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "ok, any non-players wanting to join, let me know"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "because he is crazy optimized"
[tomb] Clem asks, "By the way, how's my bat doing?"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "ok"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says (to IB), "me, please"
Elgran asks, "Anyone have a sledgehammer?"
Crumbly asks, "Right. Well, what do you guys say? Shall we try to find a mechanism for opening this?"
[tomb] Clem says, "I think it lasts 20 minutes and I created it when we entered this corridor."
[Crows-Nest] K-Y says (to Innocent), "Sure"
DM says (to FinnM), "Make a Will save"
[Crows-Nest] josh_g says (to Innocent), "sure"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 asks, "wait, what's this about 'taking his time'?"
Paulie says (to Elgran), "Grog has a crowbar."
FinnM rolls 1d20+9: 4+9 | 13 [tspoil] * InnocentBystander has added josh_g to the channel.
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, the bat is starting to fade"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says (to Rob), "He's searching the wall."
[tomb] Clem says, "Awww."
DM says (to Finn), "Looks like a real door painting to you"
Clem says (to batty), "Aww, come back into the bag, little feller." [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "I've read ahead to the end of this section, and dear god"
[Crows-Nest] nothings | [D&D]/052 baf says, "Taking 10 means doing something once, but in an ordinary, relaxedway. You can't do it in combat or similar situations."
[Crows-Nest] nothings | [D&D]/054 baf says, "Taking 20 means taking your time and, if necessary doing it over andover again until you get it right. Obviously you can't do this in combat either, and ittakes as much game time as you;d need to do 20 skill checks."
DM says, "The bat pops out of existence"
Clem says, "We will remember your excellent flapping."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "10 minutes, actually"
[tomb] Clem says, "Oops, sorry." [tspoil] josh_g asks, "how many more hours do they have to go?"
[tspoil] josh_g says, "I'm guessing, 10"
[tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "they're on page 8, barely, of 36"
DM says, "Time passes..."
Clem asks, "Okay, so, this wall is hollow?"
Grog asks, "Grog smash?"
Clem says, "I guess I'm way at the back here."
DM says, "That's what it seems like to Crumbly,y eah"
DM says, "Who is the only person near it"
Crumbly pushes on the door painting
Elgran asks, "The corridor continues, right?" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "however, they've just evaded a ton of evilness, including a permanent Sphere of Annihilation"
Rosie asks, "Is there a bar across it, like in the picture?"
DM says, "Yeah, there's at least 50 feet more of corridor"
DM says, "The bar is part of the picture"
Clem says, "I think Grog should try to smash it." [tspoil] josh_g says, "that doesn't sound very nice"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "aw, man, that's the best part"
Rosie says, "Yeah."
DM says (to Crumbly), "Nothing happens" [tspoil] josh_g asks, "was that the door trap?"
Crumbly says, "Grog, step on up."
Clem says, "I can help, or I can give my crowbar to somebody with str higher than 16." [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "no"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "I heard one story about the (original) module where the entire party jumped into that"
Elgran reaches over the pit and prods at the bar with his staff. [tspoil] InnocentBystander | 3 feet in diameter?room enough to accommodate those who, pursuing a false hope, leap in where they are completely and forever destroyed.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Do we all shuffle forward enough for Grog to reach it?"
[tomb] FinnM is afk for 5 minutes.
[tomb] DM says, "Grog could just walk up to the front"
Elgran says, "Following Crumbly if needed to get close."
Crumbly says, "I'm willing to search the next bit of corridor." [tspoil] josh_g says, "wow"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "ah, thanks"
DM says (to Elgran), "It's just smooth plaster like the rest of the painting"
Crumbly says, "(taking 10, for 37)"
DM says, "Crumbly finds another pit 20 feet down the corridor" [tspoil] K-Y says, "All those teleport traps are pretty insane, too"
DM says, "and some more runes!"
DM says, "'Two pits along the way will be found to lead to a fortuitous fall, so check the wall.'"
[Crows-Nest] nothings says (to Elgran), "that would have been totally awesome if you'd triggered something on Crumbly again"
[tomb] Clem says, "I hope somebody is writing down these runes."
Grog moves forward to where Crumbly used to be and gives the painting a good whack with his crowbar.
[tomb] Crumbly says, "I've got them."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Oh, IRL?"
[tomb] DM says, "Crumbly had a magical scratch buffer"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "Buffer of Vecna"
[tomb] Rosie says, "We could use inky's clue page."
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
[tomb] Eolo says, "Bigby's Transcribing Hand"
DM says, "The plaster cracks"
DM says, "A bunch of it falls into the pit"
Crumbly says, "That makes it sound like some of these pit traps lead somewhere nice."
[tomb] Clem says, "As long as somebody in real life can repeat them easily, I'm happy."
Grog smiles and gives it another go.
Grog exclaims, "Smashing fun!"
[tomb] Clem says, "Otherwise it would take me a while to find them in my recap."
DM says, "A bunch more plaster falls into the pit, along with some shards of wood"
Clem says, "Okay, now please wait a minute."
DM says, "since Grog seems to have exposed an actual wooden door behind the plaster"
Clem says, "Let's listen to see if that disturbed anything."
Grog looks sad, but stops smashing.
Crumbly rolls 1d20+17 for listen: 6+17 | 23
Clem rolls 1d20+5: 5+5 | 10
Elgran rolls 1d20+14 for listen: 11+14 | 25
DM says, "You hear nothing but your own pounding heartbeats"
Clem says (to Grog), "Okay, pound away."
Grog beams as he starts smashing again.
Elgran says, "Let's just remove the plaster and open the door." [tspoil] josh_g asks, "where can I download the module and read?"
Clem asks (of Rosie), "Hey, are you still checking the ceiling?" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "sec"
DM says, "Grog gives it another whack and removes a bunch more plaster as well as some actual door"
Rosie says, "Sure." [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ag/20051031a"
DM says (to Grog), "Roll for damage"
Rosie checks the ceiling.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Uh, what's a crowbar do for damage?"
Rosie rolls 1d20+5 for spot: 14+5 | 19
DM says (to Rosie), "It's about 12 feet above you and smooth plaster like the walls and floor"
Clem says, "I wouldn't put it past old Arserack to drop a block of granite on us while we're scanning the floor."
[tomb] DM says, "Let's say 1d6 plus strength"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "One-handed?"
Crumbly says, "hee arse-rack"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, he can't really get at it with two hands from the side like he is"
Grog rolls 1d6+5: 4+5 | 9
DM says, "Grog has made a dent in the door"
DM says, "Also has exposed enough door to reveal..."
DM says, "A DOORKNOB"
Paulie asks, "Do we want to check for traps?"
Clem says, "!"
Crumbly says, "I think we do."
Grog backs away to the safe area.
Crumbly searches door, taking 10 | 37
Elgran back back.
Paulie says (to Grog), "Good work."
DM says (to Crumbly), "Seems like a normal door"
Clem says (to Grog), "Hey, you can't leave yet!"
Grog asks (of Clem), "Need more smash?"
Crumbly tosses Grog a biscuit
[tomb] Elgran says, "put Grog back in the Bag"
[tomb] DM says, "Mmm, Groggy Snack"
Grog says, "Yum."
[tomb] FinnM is back.
Crumbly says, "Wait, I also want to listen at the door."
Rosie, while waiting, also floats down 7 feet to check the walls of the pits.
Crumbly rolls 1d20+17 for listen: 8+17 | 25 [tspoil] K-Y says, "Also, I just realized how much there is left of this corridor alone"
DM says (to Rosie), "There are two of them that have been triggered and two that haven't"
DM says, "You can roll Search for each of the first two"
DM says (to Crumbly), "Silence"
DM says, "This place is as dead as a tomb"
Clem asks, "You know, what I always wonder about these trap-riddled old tombs is: who resets the traps?"
Rosie asks (of DM), "Is that like 'spot'?"
Rosie asks, "Or something else?"
[tomb] Elgran says (to Rosie), "Search is its own skill"
[tomb] Eolo says, "search is a separate skill, int-based"
Paulie says (to Clem), "Whatever's on that door isn't going to get reset in a hurry."
DM says, "Yeah, it's a different Skill"
[Crows-Nest] nothings asks, "'floats'?"
[tomb] Eolo asks (of Clem), "and what's the answer to the riddle?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "I think rosie has levitation boots"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh, there it is."
[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "aha, yep, missed that"
DM says (to Clem), "I reset them all this morning, and it was a real chore, let me tell you"
Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for int: 15+1 | 16
Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for int: 4+1 | 5
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "We couldn't find the magic items shop, so we just raided the set of Back To The Future 2."
DM says (to Rosie), "Nothing special about the walls of either of the pits"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Hey, I just want to point out something:"
[tomb] Paulie says, "We've now made it two hours of realtime without anyone dying."
[tomb] Elgran says, "yay"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, this sucks"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "by sheer dumb luck"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Or finding any treasure. Or defeating any monsters."
[tomb] Rosie exclaims, "No damage either!"
[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "But still, two hours!"
Crumbly says, "Usually dungeon maintenance is done by orcs, undead thralls, unseen servants, or just magical forces."
[tomb] nothings says, "or having anyone other than a door take a single hp of damage"
Grog grunts.
[tomb] Clem says, "I think people dropped like flies back in the 1st edition version because they didn't have all these fancy skill checks."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Or insane levels of paranoia."
Crumbly asks, "OK. Who wants to open the door?"
[tomb] Clem says, "'Quick, make a Reflex save?' 'What's that, is that like Death or Magic Wands?' 'No, Reflex -- too late, you died on the spikes.'"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "The guy with the nice reflex save, perhaps?"
Crumbly opens the door
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 asks, "does it open inward or outward?"
DM says, "You reach around over the pit and push open the door"
DM says, "There's a 10 foot wide corridor"
DM says, "Ending in another door after 20 feet"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Someone should be making a map." [tspoil] josh_g says, "wacky ... I just started skimming the module, and it actually explains how the traps, etc get reset"
Elgran asks, "Continue, or switch?" [tspoil] Eolo says, "yep"
Crumbly asks, "Any opinions on this? Continue down the pit hall or take the hidden way?" [tspoil] Eolo says, "these days people do worry about that kind of thing"
Rosie exclaims, "Hidden!"
Paulie says, "I vote for the hidden passage."
Elgran says, "It wasn't very hidden"
Crumbly says, "Hidden way seems more promising, I guess."
Clem says, "Oh, hidden, why not."
FinnM votes for hiddenish.
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 laughs
Elgran says, "But if everyone else says so, sure."
Paulie says, "But we should maybe shove those pits with a staff first, in case there's anything down there."
Crumbly steps over pit into hall
Elgran and Wolf follow Crumbly.
Rosie helps everyone over the pit by floating over it.
Clem follows in marching order, which means he'll be the last one in, with Rosie.
DM says, "You can go back to two abreast now"
Clem says, "In fact I don't think we can all fit in here."
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 asks, "what, you step in without checking the floor in there first?"
Grog carries Paulie over the pit.
DM says, "Everyone can just about shove in"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Let's all get in, *then* check the floor!"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "that'd be funny if everyone shoved in and then another trap opened and everyone died"
[Crows-Nest] (from InnocentBystander) DM asks, "whaddya mean "would"?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, ""They Died With Their Barkskins On": One Party's Story"
[Crows-Nest] Elgran says, "ha ha"
Crumbly approaches the door at the far end
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Hee hee hee."
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "hee hee"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM exclaims, "Ha!"
DM says, "OK, you're all crammed into a 20' long corridor"
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "Die With Your Barks on is easily the worst Iron Maiden song ever"
[tomb] Paulie says, "No kibbitzing from the demilich here, I take it."
Clem says, "No, I'm going to wait just outside."
Clem says, "For now."
Crumbly says, "If nothing untoward happens, I search it, taking 10 | 37"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, the floor is normal stone here" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "ok, this is actually as far as I read"
DM asks (of Clem), "You're back out in the main hall?" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "I never thought they'd make it this far in 6 hours, much less 2"
Clem says, "I am just beside the pit by the broken hidden door."
DM says, "Right, OK"
Clem says, "I assume I can watch them from there."
DM says, "The door appears normal"
Crumbly OK!
Clem says, "Also keep half an eye on the other corridor."
Crumbly opens the door
[tomb] Paulie asks, "If we're in the tomb of horrors, then wouldn't 'the door appears normal' mean 'the door appears to be a deathtrap'?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
[tomb] Clem says, "The door resembles a nude Keith Richards."
[tomb] Eolo says, "well, it means it has the same art as elsewhere"
[tomb] Eolo says, "that's pretty horrific"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I think someone's typing in some boxed text."
DM says, "There's 10 feet more of corridor and then a room 30' feet wide and 20' feet deep, in which you see this: http://www.hamesucken.com/tomb/8.jpg"
DM says, "A grotesque, winged humanoid with a horned head and stony hide lunges, its four arms each tipped with wicked rocky claws. Around the creature's neck is a collar studded with huge, gleaming gems."
FinnM says, "Uh oh."
Clem says, "Holy heinousness!"
DM asks, "And you are all taken by surprise, so it gets what, a free standard action?"
Elgran exclaims, "!"
Eolo says, "right"
Paulie exclaims, "Nice collar!"
FinnM says (to DM), "Yes."
DM says, "So not enough time to move 30 feet and also attack"
Eolo says, "right"
FinnM says, "He can do a 'partial charge'." [tspoil] josh_g asks, "so looking at the module map... where are they now?"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "this is the four-armed mutant gargoyle"
[tspoil] josh_g asks, "the spot marked 8?"
[tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "5 going into 8"
[Crows-Nest] nothings asks, "what exactly determines surprise? I mean, you're in the freaking TOMB OF HORRORS, totally on edge and watching every which way, and you're surprised when you walk into a room and there's SOMETHING IN IT?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "So the big question is, 'how does Crumbly get out?'"
DM says, "It just bounds into the small amount of corridor past the door so that you all can't surround it"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "you didn't listen at the door this time!"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "We were too busy scanning the floor for pits!"
DM says, "And now I guess we all roll for initiative"
Rosie rolls 1d20+5 for init: 10+5 | 15 [tspoil] josh_g asks, "5? you mean the 3A?"
Elgran rolls 1d20+8 for init: 3+8 | 11
Clem rolls 1d20 for init: 14 | 14
Paulie rolls 1d20+8 for init: 15+8 | 23
Clem says (to Elgran), "HA ha"
FinnM rolls 1d20+0: 16+0 | 16 [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "er, yes"
Grog rolls 1d20+6: 3+6 | 9
Crumbly rolls 1d20+5 for init: 10+5 | 15
FinnM says, "And now for Kong:"
Elgran rolls 1d20+3 for wolfinit: 16+3 | 19
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "Clemophobia: the fear that in some combat you will have a lower initiative roll than the cleric"
FinnM rolls 1d20+2: 7+2 | 9
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says (to rob_2, nothings), "invitation to spoiler channel stands"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 asks, "who which?"
DM rolls 1d20-1: 9-1 | 8
[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "must have missed it the first time, yeah"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "There's a spoiler channel for non-players."
DM says, "Rarr"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "oh yeah, lemme on that"
DM says, "(It's not very fast)"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Man. This is a great party. Just rolling for init versus a single opponent takes ten dice." [tspoil] * InnocentBystander has added Rob_2 to the channel.
[tspoil] * InnocentBystander has added nothings to the channel.
[tspoil] K-Y says, "Also, they haven't even reached the sphere of annihilation yet, have they"
[tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "just be careful with the mischannels"
[tspoil] * nothings has left the channel.
DM says, "OK, so let me get the layout clear"
[tomb] Eolo exclaims (at Paulie), "and when Clem pulls out a bat on his turn, that's another roll!"
[tomb] Clem says, "Awesome, we all beat it."
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says (to nothings), "oops, sorry"
[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "Although I read it 20 years ago or whatever, I don't rememebr that well, so I'd rather be surprised"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hey, I have a 70% chance of pulling out a non-bat."
DM says, "The MUTANT FOUR-ARMED GARGOYLE is in front of the door"
[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "no problem" [tspoil] K-Y says, "Hmm, bad time to have said that"
[tspoil] InnocentBystander says (to K-Y), "they didn't go there"
DM says, "Clem is right at the door" [tspoil] Rob_2 says, "yeah wait a minute"
Clem asks, "Wait, which door?"
DM says, "Elgran and Wolf are 5 feet behind him"
DM says, "The far door that he just opened"
Clem says, "Crumbly, you mean."
Elgran says, "Crumbly is at the door"
Crumbly says, "I think you mean yes"
DM says, "Yes, sorry" [tspoil] Rob_2 says, "I think I'm going to do the same thing as nothings"
Elgran says, "Clem is in the other hall" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "ok!"
DM says, "I meant Crumbly" [tspoil] Rob_2 says, "thanks though"
DM says, "Finn and Kong are next" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "sure"
DM says, "Then Paulie and Grog"
DM says, "Then Rosie"
[tomb] Clem says, "Maybe one of us should change the first letter of his name."
DM says, "Then Clem is out in the big hall" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "the idea was to explain why they were surprised ofc"
DM says, "Paulie, go"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "How about Flem?"
[tomb] Clem says, "No, thank you."
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Bumbly?"
[tomb] nothings says, "Clem => Mel"
[tomb] nothings says, "Crumbly can't change"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Rumbly?"
[tomb] Klem says, "This is all I meant."
[tomb] nothings says, "there you go" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says (to josh_g), "make sure to check out room 7"
[tomb] nothings asks, "wait, Klem or Kong?"
[tomb] Klem says, "It's more Tolkien-y this way anyway!"
Paulie hastes himself, Crumbly, Elgran, Wolf, Finn, and Grog.
DM asks, "Is haste a touch effect?"
[tomb] Klem says, "Kong doesn't speak much so I think it's okay."
[tomb] Elgran asks, "what is the effect of Haste again?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "He's a rare mime ape."
[tomb] Paulie says, "No."
[tomb] Paulie says, "55ft range, targets must all be within 30 of each other."
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 asks, "oh, there's an ape in the party?"
[tomb] FinnM | http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/haste.htm
[tomb] Paulie | +1 unnamed bonus to hit and dodge bonus to AC and reflex saves. Also, 1 extra attack if making a full attack.
[tomb] DM asks, "OK, and I assume you have no chance of arcane spell failure?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Right."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "druids (FinnM) get an animal sidekick"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "rangers (Elgran) also do"
DM says, "OK, Wolf"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "hotcha"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "I saw the wolf"
[Crows-Nest] Klem says, "I got this bat, see."
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "hee"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "you let him expire!"
Elgran says, "Wolf is going to try to run up and then Trip it"
DM says, "There is basically room for one person to join Crumbly at the head of the QUEUE OF DEATH"
[Crows-Nest] Klem says, "He was going to expire anyway! I gave him a peaceful return to the bag."
[tomb] Elgran says, "This involves me finding the Trip rules again"
DM says, "Wolves' Trip only works if they succeed in a bite attack"
[tomb] Eolo says, "wolves trip as part of their normal attack"
Elgran says, "Then he'll bite first"
DM says, "OK, that's a +6 attack roll, looks like"
Crumbly asks, "So the baddie is directly in front of me?"
DM says (to Crumbly), "Yeah"
Elgran rolls 1d20+6 for wolfbite: 20+6 | 26
Elgran says, "That's actually 27 for the haste"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Woo."
[tomb] Eolo says, "roll again for the critical confirmation"
DM says, "A hit and a threat! Assuming bites can do criticals"
[tomb] Klem says, "Awooooowl!"
Elgran asks, "Can they?"
FinnM says, "Yes."
Elgran says, "Woo"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "A handy addition would be to allow 'roll macro+1' or the like."
DM says, "20/x2 I assume"
Elgran rolls 1d20+6 for wolfbite: 12+6 | 18
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Mmm, yeah."
Elgran says, "actually 19"
DM says, "Just a regular hit"
[Crows-Nest] Klem says, "Good idea."
DM says, "Roll damage"
Elgran rolls 1d6+2 for wolfdamage: 2+2 | 4
[tomb] Elgran asks, "what do I roll for the trip?"
DM says, "Wolf grabs the monstrous gargoyle's ankle in its jaws but they do no damage to its leathery hide" [tspoil] InnocentBystander asks, "did Sargent share how he got wget to download d20srd?"
DM says, "However, that does count as a hit for tripping purposes, I assume"
[tomb] Eolo says, "it's an opposed strength check against the gargoyle, with a +4 bonus to one person per difference in size categories"
[tomb] Eolo says, "strength check = 1d20+ str bonus"
[tomb] Klem says, "Yikes, this doesn't look good."
[tomb] DM says, "The gargoyle is Large so it gets +4"
[tomb] DM says, "Also it is very strong"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie asks, "When did Clem become Klem?"
[tomb] Elgran asks, "Wolf gets his +4 for Improved Trip, right?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "to avoid confusion with Crumbly"
[Crows-Nest] Klem says, "When the DM confused me with Crumbly."
[tomb] DM says, "Yep"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "Aha."
Elgran rolls 1d20+6 for wolftrip: 16+6 | 22
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "OK, carry on."
[tomb] Eolo says, "the gargoyle has four legs but isn't actually a quadruped, it seems like, so I don't think it gets the stability bonus" [tspoil] InnocentBystander asks, "so the Gargoyle Lair says "EL 11". What's that mean?"
DM says, "The gargoyle doesn't budge"
[tomb] Eolo says, "(that's +4 if it does)"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "I guess Krumbly sounded too much like a Keebler elf."
[tomb] DM says, "It has 2 legs and 4 arms"
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "Grumbly" [tspoil] Eolo says, "well"
DM says, "Finn's turn"
DM says, "He's about 15 feet away" [tspoil] Eolo says, "a "typical challenge" encounter for a party of four ninth-level characters is EL 9"
[tomb] FinnM asks, "Also Kong's turn, is it?" [tspoil] InnocentBystander asks, "also HP 199?????"
[tomb] DM says, "Kong rolled a 9"
Crumbly says, "Oh, large? Hm, that upsets my plans."
[tomb] DM says, "I thought"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Okay; wasn't sure if you were lumping us into the same initive or not."
[tomb] FinnM says, "That is correct."
FinnM valiantly attacks. [tspoil] Eolo says, "something +2 EL above the party is a tough challenge, and something +4 EL above them is very likely to kill them all"
Klem asks, "With what?"
DM asks, "Can you attack from that far away?"
FinnM valiantly moves, then attacks. [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "they're >4 though"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "but a party of 6 9th-level characterrs isn't EL 9, right"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "I think they're more like 10 or 11"
FinnM swings his scimitar at the beast.
FinnM rolls 1d20+11: 13+11 | 24
[tomb] Klem asks, "Aren't Wolf and Crumbly in the way?"
DM says, "There are lots of people between you and him"
FinnM says, "Erm, oh."
Crumbly says, "Ordinarily, you can only attack from 5 feet."
FinnM says, "Okay, Finn doesn't do that."
[tomb] Elgran says, "Wolf is, um, medium"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "if only someone had a spiked chain"
DM says, "These are pretty cramped quarters"
[tomb] Klem asks, "What's Crumbly's init?"
FinnM says, "Finn /delays/."
[tomb] Klem says, "We should let him move first."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "There are rules for what happens if you squeeze into the same 5-foot square as another combatant..."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "No ranged weapons?"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, but you have to end the round in your own square"
[tomb] Elgran says (to Paulie), "not down the hall past everyone"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Shooting into combat would just be bad for Finn."
[tomb] Klem asks, "Everyone above Crumbly can delay until after he moves, tight?"
FinnM appears deep in thought.
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, tight"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Yes." [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "but still"
[tomb] DM says, "OK, Crumbly and Rosie are next, and I assume Rosie will just wait for Crumbly anyway"
[tomb] FinnM says, "If y'all get out of the way, Kong can try to bullrush him back, so we can get in there and around him."
[tomb] Paulie says, "I imagine Crumbly can tumble past everyone, probably."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "But you stay in the altered initiative order."
DM says, "Crumbly's turn" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "199 seems HARD"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "I'm actually going to tumble past the gargoyle."
Crumbly says, "OK. You say he's Large."
DM says, "He sure is"
[tomb] Klem says, "I would just like to suggest that Crumbly attacks and then gets the hell out of there and lets the real fighters in."
[tomb] Rosie says, "I'll wait on Crumbly, though." [tspoil] K-Y says, "And potentially long"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "yeah, it's a pretty tough challenge"
Crumbly says, "OK. I'm going to attempt to Tumble to the other side of this guy."
[tomb] Klem says, "Unless he has some cunning plan up his sleeve..." [tspoil] Eolo says, "but you recall that Grog was doing 40+hp of damage some rounds in my sample adventure"
[tomb] Klem says, "Oooh." [tspoil] Eolo says, "this has damage reduction, but still"
DM says, "OK, I'm trying to look up on the Tumble page how that works"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Ah, the old 'backstab' plan."
[tomb] Rosie says, "http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/tumble.htm for those playing at home."
Crumbly says, "I can't accomplish this by going around him, so I'll have to tumble through his space."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Looks like TN 25."
[tomb] DM says, "Aha, there we go"
Crumbly says, "It's DC 25, and if I fail, he gets an attack of opportunity."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo | 1. Tumbling is impossible in a deep bog.
DM says, "Roll away"
Crumbly rolls 1d20+14 for tumble: 7+14 | 21
Klem narrates, "Look, Crumbly is tumbling between the mutant four-armed gargoyle's legs, as it's distracted by the heroic wolf attempting to grapple its leg!
Crumbly says, "Rotten luck."
DM says, "Unfortunate!"
DM says, "'AaO!!!' cries the gargoyle"
DM says, "Uh, 'AoO!!!'"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Tumbling back down the corridor seems in retrospect to be a better move ;-)"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "It had a 45% chance of working."
[tomb] Klem asks, "The corridor's only 20ft long, right?"
DM asks, "It just takes a standard attack against your usual AC?"
[tomb] DM says (to Klem), "Yeah"
[tomb] Klem says, "We're mostly fast enough to get right through in one turn."
[tomb] FinnM says (to DM), "Yep."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "And if it had worked, I would have had him flanked."
Crumbly says, "Yes"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, it would have been great if it worked, especially since he could then sneak"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "That was the plan."
[tomb] FinnM asks, "He still makes the movement, just with the AoO, doesn' he?"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Nope."
DM says, "It swipes at you with one of its four fearsome claws, hitting you"
[tomb] Rosie says, "No, you stop."
[tomb] Elgran says, "stops short"
[tomb] DM says (to Finn), "The page says nope"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Oh. I am mistaken."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "If I were tumbling around his space, I'd still move."
DM says, "for 16 damage"
Klem stops his narration, flinches.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is that a move-equivalent, standard, or full-round tumble?"
Crumbly says, "ouch"
[tomb] DM says, "It's a move action" [tspoil] InnocentBystander asks, "can you save vs damage somehow?"
[tomb] DM says, "So I guess he gets an attack now if he wants" [tspoil] InnocentBystander asks, "or subtract your armor, or something?"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "nope"
[tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "dude"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "there is the aforementioned damage reduction skill"
[tspoil] josh_g says, "at least he didn't get a Rend"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "but basically if it hits your AC, it does damage"
[tomb] nothings asks, "can he try it again?" [tspoil] Eolo says, "yeah, once we get to the full attack action he is going to tear something apart"
[tspoil] josh_g says, "a double-claw hit looks majorly nasty"
[tomb] Klem says, "Only a 50% chance of succeeding." [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "ok, Crumbly has 47 HP"
[tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "this is going to be a TPK"
[tspoil] josh_g says, "!"
[tomb] Klem says, "I mean, rolling d20+14 against 25."
[tomb] nothings says, "yeah, I guess not a great idea, given his HP" [tspoil] josh_g says, "well, so long Crumbly"
[tomb] Paulie says, "He could try to tumble the other way."
[tomb] DM says, "He could try again if he wanted" [tspoil] Eolo says, "Klem can raise dead, and Finn can reincarnate"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "How hard is it to tumble past an ally?" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "not if they're dead themselves"
[tomb] Klem says, "I thought you could move through allies freely."
Crumbly says, "OK. I am going to try the tumble again."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Klem is correct."
[tomb] Klem says, "As long as you end up on a free space."
DM says, "Crumbly fakes the other way"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "I'll tumble for ya, I'll tumble for ya."
Crumbly says, "The same one that failed last time." [tspoil] Eolo says, "yep"
[tspoil] josh_g says, "ha ha"
Crumbly rolls 1d20+14 for tumble: 11+14 | 25
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yay"
[tomb] Klem says, "YAY"
[tomb] Elgran says, "yay"
[tomb] Klem says, "Tumble that 'goyle!"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is that yiddish?"
DM says, "and barely rolls through the gargoyle's legs"
Crumbly says, "I am now on the other side of the beastie. Also, he's used up his AoO for this round, so feel free to brush past him."
DM says, "'Rarrgh', it exclaims"
[tomb] Klem says, "I think it's just Brooklyn."
[tomb] InnocentBystander says (to Paulie), "no, from Harry Potter"
Rosie attemts to take advantage of Crumbly tumbling around one side of the gargoyle to tumble around/over the other side. After tumbling past everyone else in the corridor, of course. (half speed for me is 30' so I assume that's far enough; TN 25)
Rosie rolls 1d20+19 for tumble: 11+19 | 30
[tomb] Eolo says, "crikey"
DM says, "Wow, that's some tumblin"
[tomb] Elgran says, "thassa lotta tumble"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Your regular move is 60'?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Ayup."
[tomb] DM says, "She's a monk"
[tomb] Elgran says, "monks. sheesh"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Woo. +30' more for Haste, too."
[tomb] Klem says, "Wow, I thought were were just adventurers, not the bloody Cirque Soleil."
[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Oh, I'm included in the Haste?"
[tomb] DM says, "Rosie was not hasted"
[tomb] FinnM says, "D'oh; sorry."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "Bugs Meany's monastery was called the Tigers, but they should have been called the Rock Tumblers, because they rocked at tumbling"
[Crows-Nest] Elgran says, "ha ha ha ha"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "So, normal attack?"
DM says, "Rosie jukes way, then the other, and dodges past a swinging claw"
DM says, "one way"
[tomb] DM says, "Yep"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Like, normal all my attacks, or just a single one?"
[tomb] DM asks, "It's flanked now, so what does that do to its AC?"
[tomb] Eolo asks (of Klem), "you're all prepared to do the high-dive into the tub of water later, right?"
[tomb] DM says, "A single attack"
[tomb] Eolo says, "+2 to attacks"
[tomb] Eolo says, "no AC penalty"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says (to Eolo), "s/tub/glass"
[tomb] Klem says (to Eolo), "Hee hee hee"
[tomb] DM says, "Making all your attacks is a full action"
Rosie rolls 1d20+13 for a1: 3+13 | 16
[tomb] FinnM says, "And sneak attack damage if you got it."
[tomb] Rosie says, "(plus 2)"
[tomb] Rosie says, "(for flanking)"
DM says, "Rosie is too off-balance from her tumble to get a good swing at the gargoyle"
Rosie says, "Drat."
[tomb] Klem says, "Man, somebody needs to hit this thing so we can figure out if it's tough enough to warrant a ton of combat and enhancement spells."
DM says, "Finn could undelay now"
[tomb] Klem says, "Or maybe that already answers my question."
[tomb] Elgran says, "well, we know from wolf's attack that it has some type of damage resistance"
DM says, "Otherwise Clem"
[tomb] Klem says, "Yeah."
FinnM will go after Kong, he thinks.
[tomb] Eolo says, "dude, it's a mutant four-armed gargoyle"
DM says, "OK, Clem"
DM says, "Way out in the big hall"
[tomb] nothings says, "just because you're a mutant doesn't mean your better than anybody else, Mr. Wants-To-Be-Magneto"
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[tomb] josh_g says, "ha ha"
Klem says, "I think I will save my Prayer for later, and cast Spiritual Weapon to attack from a distance."
Klem says, "As soon as I read up to check that will work."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "So now Wolf is alone in the first row, with Elgran alone in the second row, and both Finn and Kong in the third row?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "right"
[tomb] Elgran exclaims, "bring it on!"
Eolo says, "it attacks with your BAB, +your wisdom modifier"
Crumbly says, "brb"
Klem says, "It doesn't need room to attack or anything, I hope."
Eolo says, "and does 1d8+3 hp force damage if it hits"
Eolo says, "correct"
Klem says, "Okay, VOOMF"
[tomb] DM says, "And it looks like it bypasses damage reduction"
Klem says, "And I believe it attacks immediately."
Klem says, "It's a GHOSTLY FLAMING GREATSWORD, since that is my deity's favoured weapon!"
[tomb] Eolo says, "I see it might be dispelled by spell resistance"
Klem says, "Although it still only does 1d8 damage."
DM says, "It'll last 9 rounds"
[tomb] FinnM says, "7 rounds longer than us."
Klem says, "My base attack is 6, +5 for wisdom."
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
Klem rolls 1d20+11: 19+11 | 30
[tomb] Elgran says, "nice"
Klem asks, "Hrm, is that a threat?"
DM says, "OK, a ghostly flaming greatsword materializes from Clem's hand and flies down the corridor at the gargoyle"
[tomb] Elgran asks, "can magically flaming greatswords have a critical threat?"
Crumbly says, "back"
[tomb] Klem says, "I was just wondering that."
[tomb] DM | the same threat range and critical multipliers as a real weapon of its form
[tomb] Klem says, "The spell description says it has the same threat as a real greatsword, which is 19-20."
Paulie blinks. "I don't remember his sword doing that back when he was called Clem."
[tomb] DM says, "So roll again"
Klem rolls 1d20+11: 14+11 | 25
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says (to Paulie), "well, Corn also doesn't do what Korn does"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "I can't wait to see what powers he gets when he levels up to Qlem."
DM says, "The sword rips into the gargoyle's thigh!!"
Klem says, "RARRR"
DM says, "Roll some damage!"
[tomb] Klem asks, "2d8+6?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "2d8+doubled wisdom modifier, I guess"
DM says, "So 2d8+6"
Klem rolls 2d8+6: 7 1+6 | 14 [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "2d8+6? oh please"
(From DM) Gargoyle RAR
(From Klem) A triumphant godly E major chord bursts out as the weapon strikes home!
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander asks, "wait, inky's now the DM?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "I'm just sticking my oar in repeatedly"
DM says, "You get a move action too but there's not much space to move to"
Klem says, "Well, I'm done."
Klem says, "I'll just stay back here."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "and dfan is ignoring or not as he chooses"
DM says, "You could step over the pit into the corridor, though"
DM says, "OK"
DM says, "Elgran!"
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "I meant the 'RAR' thing"
Klem says, "In fact I'll move a little further back to make room, as long as I can still see. I have plenty of range in this thing."
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "although I guess that's more Kain than Inky"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "So, wait. Isn't Klem our tank?"
Elgran asks, "How far am I from the MUTANT FOUR-ARMED GARGOYLE?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "oh hehg"
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "(Kain being the new Iain)"
[tomb] Klem says, "There's no room!"
[tomb] FinnM says, "That's probably the guy with AC29. Me."
[tomb] Klem says, "Grog is tougher than me anyway."
[tomb] Eolo says, "Crumbly tumbled out of the way"
[tomb] Eolo says, "so I think there's a space now"
[tomb] Eolo says, "I don't know about how to get by the second ranks, though"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "So it's Grog and Wolf in the front row?"
DM says, "10 feet"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Grog's still in row four."
[tomb] Klem says, "Front row is now wolf and empty, I believe."
[tomb] Paulie says, "It's WOlf and no one."
Elgran asks, "Am I close enough to move up and do a full attack, or just a standard?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Elgran can step forward if he wants, I think."
[tomb] Klem says, "Anyone with like 20' move can step into that space and attack."
DM says, "You can move up 5 feet and then do a full atack"
DM says, "attack"
Elgran says, "Sweet"
Crumbly asks, "How far back are you?"
Elgran says, "Then I will step up and do my One end/Other end/One end -5/Other end -5/two-handed hasted bonus attack scheme"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Five feet, I think."
DM says, "He's 10 feet away"
Elgran says, "And I will convert 3 points from attack bonus to power attacking"
Crumbly says, "Wait wait wai."
DM says, "Someone's awfully confident"
[tomb] FinnM says (to Elgran), "You are not close enough, if seems."
[tomb] Elgran exclaims (at fin), "the DM said I was!"
[tomb] DM says, "He's ten feet away"
[tomb] DM says, "He can take his five-foot move action and be five feet away"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Okay, okay."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "OK"
[tomb] DM says, "and then take a full attack"
Elgran says (to DM), "well I can swing past it a lot, anyway"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Go for it, Ginsu."
[tomb] DM says, "10 feet between centers of the miniatures, not 10 feet of open space"
[tomb] Elgran says, "it's a stick"
[tomb] DM says, "Uh, so I will take your word for how you are working your attacks"
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
[tomb] DM asks, "One extra attack is from haste and one is from improved two-weapon or something?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "right"
[tomb] DM says, "OK, let's do one at a time"
[tomb] Klem says, "Power attack probably does make sense if it has damage reduction."
[tomb] Elgran asks, "and I'm at a +3 situational since I'm hasted and it's flanked, right?"
[tomb] DM says (to Klem), "Good point"
[tomb] DM says, "Yep"
[tomb] Elgran says, "then my first attack is at +14+3-3"
[tomb] FinnM says (to Klem), "Yes, but Elgran appears to have a magical weapon."
Elgran rolls 1d20+14: 9+14 | 23
[tomb] DM asks, "What's the -3?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "the power attack"
[tomb] DM says, "Aha, right"
[tomb] Elgran says, "no, wait, grr"
[tomb] DM asks, "No?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "+12+3-3. stupid column"
[tomb] Elgran says, "so a 21"
DM says, "Elgran hits it upside the head!"
Elgran rolls 1d6+7: 1+7 | 8
DM asks, "Does that +7 include the power attack?"
Elgran says, "yes"
DM says, "It shrugs off the attack!!"
[tomb] Elgran says, "other end"
[tomb] Klem says, "Gee."
Elgran rolls 1d20+12: 5+12 | 17
[tomb] FinnM says, "Hrm."
[tomb] Elgran asks, "a miss?"
[tomb] Klem says, "By the way, in case anyone forgets, you have to use the same power attack value for the whole round."
[tomb] Elgran says (to klem), "yeah, very sad"
DM says, "Elgran misses with the other end!"
[tomb] Elgran says, "Second set"
DM says, "Now back to the first end"
Elgran rolls 1d20+7: 5+7 | 12
Elgran rolls 1d20+7: 18+7 | 25 [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "wait"
[tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "he hit for 8 HP"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "yep"
DM says, "You do hit on your second try with the back end"
Elgran rolls 1d6+2: 2+2 | 4 [tspoil] InnocentBystander asks, "how did the gargoyle shrug it off?"
[tspoil] Eolo says, "damage reduction"
DM says, "...if you call that hitting"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Y'know, it occurs to me that now we're going to get Klem mixed up with Kong."
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh" [tspoil] InnocentBystander asks, "ah, DR 10/--?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "last shot, two-handed" [tspoil] Eolo says, "right"
[tomb] DM asks, "Wait a sec, you get 5 attacks?" [tspoil] InnocentBystander asks, "wow, so Iain's hit was also recuced by 10?"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Haste."
[tomb] Clem says, "Oh, have it your way." [tspoil] Eolo says, "no, his spell ignores damage reduction"
[tomb] nothings asks, "what happened to taking his word for it?"
[tomb] DM says, "I thought that was his 4th attack"
[tomb] Elgran says, "the first two were my usuals, and then the bonus haste attack at full bonus" [tspoil] Eolo says, "spells often do"
[tomb] Elgran says, "no, the improved two-weapon gives me the fourth"
[tomb] DM asks, "What gave you the third?"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "Heh"
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
[tomb] DM says, "I'm serious"
[tomb] Elgran says, "my impression was that I have two attack slots per full attack due to my +9/+5 BAB"
[tomb] Clem says, "This would be more impressive if it were actually denting his hide at all."
[tomb] FinnM says, "2 from BAB, +1 from 2-ended weapon, +1 from improved, +1 from haste, I think is the deal."
[tomb] DM asks, "Oh, you get two more due to haste?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "he gets an off-hand attack for having two-weapon fighting, and a second off-hand attack from improved two-weapon fighting"
[tomb] Eolo says, "and one for haste"
[tomb] Elgran says, "my other impression was that absed on my reading of Two-Weapon Attack and Improved Two-Weapon attack I can use each slot twice each full attack round"
[tomb] Elgran says, "and then I get one more not-splittable attack due to haste"
[tomb] Elgran says, "if this is incorrect I'll stop now"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM asks (of DM), "Wait a minute, how does this four-armed gargoyle get 4 attacks per round hmmmm?"
[tomb] DM says, "I am confused but I don't feel like stopping things to figure it all out, so go ahead"
[tomb] Elgran says, "if you'd rather have me not do it I'll stop now"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Yikes."
[tomb] Eolo says, "it's not so much that you're splitting attacks, it's that two-weapon fighting and improved two-weapon fighting each give a bonus attack with the off-hand weapon"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "It may suck to be the person, or canine, standing in front of it at the end of this round."
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "I'm guessing that's what it'll do, at least."
[tomb] DM says, "No, go ahead"
[tomb] Elgran says, "okay"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 belatedly laughs at the 'Is that yiddish?' joke
Elgran rolls 1d20+14: 20+14 | 34
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Two-weapon fighting explicitly says 'You can make one extra attack each round with the second weapon'"
[tomb] Elgran says, "here's the check"
Elgran rolls 1d20+14: 13+14 | 27
[tomb] Elgran says, "and that's 1d8+5+6x2"
DM asks, "That included the power attack?"
[tomb] Elgran asks, "does the power attack redouble?"
Elgran says, "yes"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yes"
Elgran rolls d6 for ;er,: 2 | 2
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "'Redouble'?"
Elgran says, "um"
DM says, "Ha ha"
[tomb] DM says, "Double for the critical"
[tomb] Eolo says, "it's also doubled by the critical hit"
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "The gargoyle laughs!"
[tomb] Eolo says, "I guess that is not redoubling"
Elgran rolls 2d6+22: 1 3+22 | 26
[tomb] Paulie says, "Wow."
[tomb] Elgran says, "doubles the 3 for the power attack with two-hands, doubled again by the crit"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Woo."
[tomb] Eolo says, "oh yeah"
DM says, "Oof, right in the groin"
[tomb] Elgran says, "which is why I asked"
[tomb] Eolo says, "mutant four-groined gargoyle"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Wait, wait. He doesn't get double the power attack for using a two-handed weapon if he's wielding it as a double weapon."
[tomb] Clem asks, "Wait, this isn't two-handed, is it?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "I think that is correct."
[tomb] DM says, "Well, the thing is that he's switching back to two-handed for the bonus attack"
[tomb] Paulie asks (of Curmbly), "The Hasted attack is as a two-handed, isn't it?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "I'm not weilding it as a two-handed weapon this round"
[tomb] DM says, "assuming that he can do that"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "But it seems to me that it does get doubled by the critical. Critical doubles the damage dice, including all bonuses/penalties."
[tomb] Elgran says, "er, as two-weapons"
[tomb] Elgran says, "sorry"
[tomb] Elgran says, "for this attack, I am weilding it two-handed"
[tomb] Elgran says, "also, wielding"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "(And excluding bonus damage dice, as in Sneak Attack)"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "d&d is so awesome"
DM says, "The gargoyle roars with pain"
DM says, "Grog's turn"
[tomb] (from nothings) Elgran says, "also, crap, 'Elgran'? My name is 'Elrond'."
[tomb] Elgran says, "(this is exactly what I wanted to avoid with the bonus inky bits. sorry everyone)"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, ""argh! the calculations!" it says"
[tomb] Clem says, "Let's not argue all that lovely damage away so let's keep going!"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Wait, you're treating it as a double weapon for your first four attacks and as a two-handed weapon for your haste attack?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "We all need some bonus inky bits."
[tomb] Eolo says, "cough"
[tomb] DM says (to Crumbly), "Yeah, that's what I was wondering whether it was legiy"
[tomb] DM says, "legit"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "OK"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh, right, Grog's turn."
[tomb] Elgran says (to crumbly), "that's my reading of the rules"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Legit or not, it's clever."
[tomb] Elgran says, "but the DM can certainly say no"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Go Grog go."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "No room for him to get into attack range, right?"
[tomb] DM says, "Not unless he has 10' reach"
DM says, "To recap, Crumbly and Rosie are behind the gargoyle"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Two questions, then: if both your and your enemy are higher than medium height, is there still a penalty for firing into melee?"
DM says, "Elgran and Wolf are right in front of it"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yeah, I think so"
DM says, "Then there's some space"
[tomb] Paulie says, "(Actually, only one question, I guess.)"
DM says, "Then Finn and Kong"
DM says, "Then Paulie and Grog"
DM says, "Then Clem outside the corridor"
Clem says, "(heroically)"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Eolo), "Really? Drat."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Technically, yes; the penalty comes due to the swirling chaotic nature of melee moreso than the cover of the combatants. As far as I know."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "There's a penalty just for firing into melee."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Hrm. In that, case I'm not sure there's anything useful Grog can do."
[tomb] Eolo says, "he can delay his action until after the gargoyle"
[tomb] Clem says, "Step up close to the front guys, at least."
[tomb] Clem says, "Or that."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, I guess he'll wait."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, nothing in the rules about the size mattering"
DM says, "OK, Grog delays"
DM says, "Kong"
FinnM says, "Kong roars."
FinnM says, "But doesn't actually do anything."
[tomb] Clem asks, "Delaying too?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Yeah, we can treat it as a delay."
DM asks, "OK, did you want to undelay Finn now?"
FinnM says, "No; Finn doesn't really have anything yet to do either."
[Crows-Nest] Rosie exclaims, "Undelay undelay! Arriba Arriba!"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Who else delayed?"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "Heh"
[tomb] Clem says, "It seems like we want to get Grog hitting this thing."
[tomb] DM says, "Grog delayed too"
[tomb] Eolo says, "someone is going to have to move/be killed before Grog can hit it"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I'd be happy to."
[tomb] FinnM says, "I think the gargoyle will helpfully clear out some room for us soon."
[tomb] Clem says, "Ha ha."
[Crows-Nest] Elgran says, "I thought the plan was 'Kill the beastie', not 'Sit around and watch the beastie disembowel Elgran'"
[tomb] Clem says, "Well, we've got Elgran and Rosie in there, which is a good start."
DM says, "Gargoyle turn!"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I was hoping Grog could at least pick Paulie up and hold him high enough to make some ranged magical attacks."
[tomb] Clem says, "Although the gargoyle gets to disembowel them before they move again."
[tomb] Paulie says, "But if height doesn't affect firing into melee, that's no help."
[tomb] Clem asks, "What's the penalty for firing into a melee?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "-4"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Plus another -4 for cover"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Is the way it'll work out, I think."
[tomb] Elgran asks, "there's cover in here?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "the other PCs"
[tomb] FinnM says, "From our guys standing between him and you."
[tomb] Clem says, "Okay, yeah, not worth it at -8."
DM says, "It whirls around and swipes at Crumbly"
[tomb] Elgran says, "ah"
[tomb] FinnM says, "But he is Large, so a nice DM might give you a bit of a break on it."
[tomb] Paulie says, "http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/actionsInCombat.htm#attack doesn't mention the cover."
DM says, "Hitting with all four of its arms"
[tomb] Clem says, "Yikes."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Hmm. That specifically says shooting or throwing."
[tomb] FinnM says (to Crumbly), "Hey can I have your Haversack? </joke>"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Everybody got those diamonds with them?"
Crumbly says, "eek"
DM says, "doing 63 points of damage"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Does that mean it doesn't actually apply to spells requiring ranged attacks?"
Crumbly dead
[tomb] Elgran says, "ow"
[tomb] Eolo says, "luckily Crumbly is -- uh, was -- scrappy"
DM says, "Crumbly drops lifelessly to the floor"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "New theory: the Barkskin wears off just after the 10 minutes required casting time for Raise Dead."
Rosie exclaims, "You killed Crumbly!"
[tomb] FinnM says, "So that's what a failed Save vs Death looks like."
Rosie exclaims, "You bastard!"
DM says, "Also, it has Cleave"
[tomb] Clem says, "!"
Paulie says, "Aw, I kinda liked the guy, too."
Crumbly says, "Man."
[Crows-Nest] (from josh_g) DM says, "So basically, you're screwed."
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "This is the funniest massacre I've seen in a long time."
[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "New theory: tanks in front"
DM says, "so it turns on Rosie"
Crumbly says, "I really should have backed away like I said I was going to do at the first hint of combat."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Bah, we can take this guy."
Crumbly says, "But nooo."
[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "wait, THAT'S NOT A NEW THEORY AT ALL"
Clem says, "I did suggest it!"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says (to nothings), "OK, Grog will open the next door."
[tomb] FinnM says, "We really should have brought a shovel. And a bucket. For Crumbly."
DM says, "and rakes her"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Did someone just cast Speak With Dead?"
[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "How's his Reflex versus pit traps?"
Crumbly exclaims, "I though, hey, it doesn't look undead! I could possibly flank and sneak-attack it!" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "I love how this says it's a thinking man's module"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hey, I'm a cleric, deal with it."
[tomb] Clem says, "Oops, wait, Lawful Good." [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "and the first thing is a hp 199 gargoyle"
DM says, "for 17 damage"
Rosie says, "Ow." [tspoil] josh_g says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Can people say their remaining HP as they get hit?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Just so we can tell who's about to drop."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Also, is Crumbly dead dead, or is he in that mezzo-dead negative HP range?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "I think he's at about -40"
[tomb] Clem says, "63 damage is quite a hell of a lot of damage."
[tomb] nothings says, "I think he's -30... timing"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "well, he started with 47 and took 60-something..."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Crumbly is oh so very dead."
[tomb] FinnM says, "He got hit by the AoO too."
[tomb] nothings says (to IB), "he took some before that"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "and that, yes"
DM says, "He also gets a bite attack"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh yeah, forgot about the AoO."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "This is where we resurrect Crumbly as a level 8 rogue, and find he didn't learn Disable Traps until level 9."
DM says, "which does 11 damage"
[tomb] Clem asks (of DM), "Are you including the barkskin here, by the way?"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie asks (of DM), "I assume you're remembering my barkskin?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "If we end up with only Grog left of the party, I will laugh."
[tomb] Clem says, "If so, this thing has some scary attack roll."
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "(channel, but still)"
[tomb] DM says, "Yes"
[tomb] DM says, "and Yes"
[tomb] Clem says, "Well shit."
[tomb] Elgran says, "man"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "When I got hit the first time, I was thinking '16? Not so bad, I can survive another hit like that', forgetting that that was an AoO so it didnt' get to use its full attack routine."
DM says, "and to add insult to injury he gores her with the horn on his head!"
DM says, "for another 17"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Uh, I think that's actually adding injury to injury."
DM says, "(I count 23 left)"
[tomb] Clem asks (of Paulie), "Does Clem have any enhancement to strength?"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "You thought I was joking when I said the gargoyle would attack us with his four arms." [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "this module is totally pointless"
[tomb] Clem says, "If not I'll Bull's Strength him."
[tomb] Rosie says, "OK, I'm down to, right, 23."
DM says, "and now it's finally done, so anyone who's delayed can act"
[tomb] Clem says, "Err, Grog."
[tomb] Paulie says (to Clem), "Er? You are Clem."
[tomb] Clem says, "Time to change my name again!"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, +2 ogre power."
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "module? monster"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Okay, does he have any deflection bonus to AC?" [tspoil] Eolo says, "well, it's just designed to chew people up"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "If delayed people don't act now, do they lose their chance?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Trying to figure if I can power him up any more."
[tomb] Eolo says, "yes"
[tomb] DM asks, "The barkskinned characters are the 5 PCs besides Finn, right?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Yes."
[tomb] Eolo says, "(..Paulie)"
[tomb] Clem says, "Yes."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "I guess Grog had better act. Does anyone want to go first?"
[tomb] DM asks, "And that's a +4, right?"
[tomb] Rosie says (to DM), "4 now ;-)"
[tomb] Clem says (to DM), "Yup."
FinnM says, "I... uh... hrm."
Clem asks, "Spell?"
FinnM says, "Alright, I cast Dispel Magic. On that collar it's wearing." [tspoil] josh_g asks, "does no one believe in magic missile anymore?"
[tspoil] InnocentBystander | the essence of this secret door complex requires this level of attention to avoid making the navigation of this area nothing more than a mathematical exercise.
[tomb] Clem says, "Hey, not a bad idea." [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "maybe this area should be... re-thought"
DM asks, "Any chance of failure?"
[tomb] FinnM | http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/dispelMagic.htm
FinnM says, "Yes, sort of." [tspoil] josh_g says, "ha ha"
FinnM rolls a dispel check.
DM says, "Not regular arcane spell failure, though"
FinnM says, "No." [tspoil] josh_g | the essence of this secret door complex is to make this module take freaking forever
FinnM rolls 1d20+9: 2+9 | 11
[tomb] Clem asks, "Aren't druids Divine?"
FinnM cries.
[tomb] FinnM says, "Yeah, that too."
Eolo says, "I don't think any of the PCs here have a spell failure check, since they're all divine or not wearing armor"
DM says, "No visible effect"
DM says, "OK"
Crumbly says, "Or dead"
DM says, "You get a move action too, if you want"
FinnM backs away, oh, another 5 feet.
FinnM says, "As does Kong."
DM says, "Paulie and Grog are right behind you"
DM says, "and him"
DM says, "but there's room in front of you!"
FinnM says, "Umm, oh. I'll just hang tight, then."
[Crows-Nest] josh_g asks, "the gorilla moves back?"
DM asks, "OK. Grog or Kong?"
[tomb] Clem says, "I think our best fighters are Grog, Elgran, Rosie and Clem, if we can somehow arrange that."
Elgran exclaims, "Get up here, people!"
FinnM says, "Kong is mine; I can't speak for Grog."
Grog downs his Elixir of Fire Breath.
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Yeah, can Wolf move back?"
Elgran says, "And things. Things can also get up here."
[tomb] Elgran says, "next round, sure"
[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "mmm, goes down smooth, but has a burning aftertaste"
[tomb] Clem says, "Although my AC isn't great."
[tomb] DM asks, "OK, what kind of action is that?"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 finally gets caught up to real-time again
[tomb] Elgran says, "but your ghost firy sword is nice"
[tomb] DM says, "'Manipulate an item' is a move action"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Standard, if it's equivalent to drinking a potion."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "I'm going to start downgrading my character sheet to level 8 in anticipation of resurrection."
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "man, that's one nasty four armed horn gouging teeth biting cleaving gargoyle dude"
[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "yeah, pretty much"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "It's like it's some sort of Horror."
[tomb] DM says, "OK, I guess he doesn't get a breath attack this round, then"
[Crows-Nest] josh_g asks, "who would've thought?"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "We were so naive in the salad days of our youth."
[tomb] Clem says (to Crumbly), "Your faith in the party's survival is appreciated."
[tomb] DM says, "Ha"
DM says, "Grog could move past Finn and Kong, though"
[tomb] nothings says (to Clem), "uh, I thought your AC was nearly as good as anyone's, save Finn"
[tomb] Clem says, "Even if multiple people die, I guess Crumbly gets raised first because he died first and because I have this funny feeling there might be more traps."
[tomb] FinnM says (to DM), "You know, I bet you thought you were being pretty funny when you decided to use a HackMaster module. But you're not." [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "it's funny how DSA is totally geared towards heroes never dying, and every other RPG is the opposite"
Grog moves past Finn and Kong.
[tomb] Clem says (to nothings), "I have this shield that I can't use when I'm swinging the holy greatsword."
DM says, "OK, and finally, Kong"
[tomb] Clem says, "Man, TSD."
[tomb] nothings says, "ah"
DM says, "who can move up 5 feet to be besides Grog if he wants"
[tomb] nothings asks, "what about the spiritual one, though?"
FinnM says, "Kong flings feces, then moves beside Grog."
[tomb] Clem says, "If people don't move I can keep attacking with that from back here."
[Crows-Nest] Elgran says, "too bad this isn't an undead mutant gargoyle"
DM says, "OK, that's it for the round"
DM says, "Let me recap where everyone is"
[tomb] Elgran says, "I'm moving Wolf back next round"
[tomb] nothings says, "but they need up up there as a meat^H AC23 shield"
(From InnocentBystander) DM says, "DEAD"
DM says, "Rosie and Crumbly's corpse are inside the room on the other side of the gargoyle, who is still flanked"
DM says, "Elgran and Wolf are in the front line"
DM says, "Grog and Kong behind them"
DM says, "Then Finn""
DM says, "Then Paulie"" [tspoil] josh_g asks, "DSA?"
DM says, "Finally, Clem is still hiding out in the main corridor" [tspoil] InnocentBystander says, "ask the bird"
DM says, "OK, Paulie goes first"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Hmm. So a bad time to use a cone-effect spell."
[tomb] Clem says, "Summon Ice Cream IV"
DM says, "Oh, by the way, Rosie and Crumbly noticed a couple of doors in the room when they tumbled in"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "I think Clem gets a +4 intelligence bonus for where he chose to stand"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Does missing while firing into melee run a risk of injuring allies?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "Wolf will probably want to 5' step or withdraw to avoid the AoO from the gargoyle"
[tomb] Eolo says, "no"
[tomb] (from Clem) DM says, "Which now open revealing fiendish darkmantles."
DM says, "One is on the left wall (as you enter) and one is on the near wall, to the left,"
[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "I think actually not"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Hey, would it be stupid to retreat behind the spiked pit?"
[tomb] Clem asks, "And fire arrows at it?"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Hmm. If he's still flanked, would I be able to potentially get sneak attack damage?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yep"
[tomb] Rosie asks (of Clem), "You *are* behind the spiked pit, no?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "on each attack, in fact"
[tomb] DM asks, "You can do sneak attack damage with a ranged weapon?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Exactly! Hint hint!"
[tomb] Eolo says, "if you're within 30'"
Paulie attempts to fire an Acid Arrow.
[tomb] Eolo says, "er, wait, hang on, maybe I'm on crack"
[tomb] DM | Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet.
Paulie rolls 1d20+10 for ranged: 6+10 | 16
[tomb] Paulie says, "That's a touch attack. Er, and -4 for melee."
[tomb] Paulie says, "So 12"
DM says, "The acid arrow whizzes by the gargoyle's head"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "I don't think you can do a ranged sneak-attack now."
[tomb] Eolo says, "oh yeah, there was a big thread on enworld about this"
[tomb] DM says, "Why not? He's flanked and less than 30' away"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Because the monster is aware of you, is not immoble, and you're not flanking it."
[tomb] Rosie says, "The gargoyle is facing me right now, so his back is to the rest of the party."
[tomb] Eolo says (to Rosie), "there's no facing, so that doesn't itself matter"
[tomb] Elgran says (to rosie), "3.5 doesn't have facing"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh."
[tomb] DM asks, "Aha, the range sneak attack would only be if it were unaware?"
[tomb] Clem says, "The question is whether it needs to be flanked by Paulie, or just flanked by anybody."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "It's not liek 'flanked' is a state that the monster is put in. It is a relationship between monster and attacker./"
[tomb] Clem says, "I would say the latter makes sense."
[tomb] Paulie says (to Crumbly), "Technically it doesn't matter, since I missed, but the DM said he was flanked."
[tomb] Clem says (to Crumbly), "Oh, hmm."
[tomb] DM | The rogue?s attack deals extra damage any time her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target.
DM says, "Anyway, Paulie gets a move action if he wants it"
Paulie joins Clem.
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "to continue here"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo | When making a melee attack, you get a +2 flanking bonus if your opponent is threatened by a character or creature friendly to you on the opponent.s opposite border or opposite corner.
[tomb] Crumbly says, "That's why the effect of flanking is a +2 to attack ratehr than a -2 to AC"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "so clearly you don't get the flanking bonus, because you're not making an attack"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "Oh, so everyone gets the bonus? Cool."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "er, a melee attack"
[tomb] DM says, "OK, Paulie hightails it out of the corridor and daintily steps around the pit in front of the door"
DM says, "Wolf"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie asks (of Eolo), "Oh, so flanking only works in melee?"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "The language in the PHB describing Sneak Attack says '...or when the rogue flanks her target'"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "but the next line is | When in doubt about whether two friendly characters flank an opponent in the middle, trace an imaginary line between the two friendly characters. centers. If the line passes through opposite borders of the opponent.s space (including corners of those borders), then the opponent is flanked."
DM says, "There's not space to take a 5' step back but he could withdraw"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "and | Only a creature or character that threatens the defender can help an attacker get a flanking bonus"
DM says, "or take a standard attack and move away, but provoke an AoO"
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "someone should push the gargoyle into the pit"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "I think the gargoyle's like 20ft away from it."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "so, arguably, if there's a melee opponent on the other side of the enemy, you can still be considered to be flanking them, even if you don't get the attack bonus"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "With several heroes between it and the pit."
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "right now it is"
[tomb] Elgran says, "man, lag"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says (to Paulie), "Well, there was my 'run like crazy' plan."
[Crows-Nest] nothings asks (of Eolo), "but 3 characters in an equilateral triangle around a monster would fail to flank?"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "apparently so"
[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "that seems like a bug"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "Dude, that gargoyle has wings."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "but the square grid system would make that tricky"
[tomb] Elgran says, "okay, wolf will withdraw"
[tomb] Elgran asks, "that doesn't provoke the AoO?"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says (to Clem), "I remember that plan from when we fought the Mohrgs."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Withdraw does not draw an AoO."
[tomb] FinnM | http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/actionsInCombat.htm#withdraw
[Crows-Nest] Clem says (to nothings), "Well, if you're dumb enough to put your miniature down on a *hex* map, well..."
[tomb] Eolo says, "right"
[Crows-Nest] nothings asks, "well, one in front, two at either back corner?"
[tomb] DM asks, "All the way out of the corridor?"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says (to Clem), "Although I guess that wasn't so much 'crazy' as 'confused'."
Elgran exclaims, "Wolf, Back!"
(From Elgran) Wolf whines, and then turns and sprints down the hall and into the corridor.
[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Also, I think the SRD has a whole section on flanking on hex maps."
DM says, "OK, Rosie"
[tomb] Clem says, "Man, I hadn't realised that attacking and then moving back got an AoO in return. I guess that prevents the obvious trick for getting more attacks in."
Rosie attacks.
[tomb] Clem asks, "Is there some feat that prevents that?"
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "my macros don't have my +2 flanking bonus, so imagine them."
Rosie rolls 1d20+13 for a1: 6+13 | 19
Rosie rolls 1d20+13 for a2: 2+13 | 15
DM asks, "A regular full unarmed attack?"
Rosie rolls 1d20+8 for a3: 9+8 | 17
[tomb] Elgran says (to clem), "if you can make a 5' step, you can, I think"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Best to use some crazy tumbling, probably."
[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "no, seriously, can't you attack on a diagonal? I mean the equilateral-ish construction on a square grid"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Or Spring Attack, I guess it is."
[tomb] Elgran says, "standard attack, 5' step, move"
Rosie rolls 1d10+3 for damage: 6+3 | 9
[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "Man those are sucky rolls."
[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "one in front and the other two knight's moves at the back"
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "wait, I thought Rosie was dead"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "Yes."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "right, you can"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Only Crumbly is dead."
[Crows-Nest] Rosie asks, "Wait, there was another hit with the +2. 19 TN right?"
DM says, "All of Rosie's punches and kicks bounce harmlessly off the gargoyle"
[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "no, Rosie is just mauled"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "FOR NOW"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says (to nothings), "yeah, you can"
[Crows-Nest] nothings says (to IB), "DM said 'Rosie and Crumbly's corpse', not 'Rosie's and Crumbly's corpses'"
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "I just saw that"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "but I think you won't usually get the flanking bonus there"
DM says, "and we move on to Clem"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Wait, really? I thought the TN was 19."
Eolo says, "he can roll for the spiritual weapon attack first"
Clem says, "My spiritual flaming greatsword is still slicing away, and gets a full attack this time."
Clem asks, "Can I also cast another spell?"
[tomb] DM asks, "TN?"
Eolo says, "yeah"
[tomb] Elgran says, "I suspect it has damage resistsance >=10/something"
[tomb] Eolo says, "AC"
[Crows-Nest] nothings says (to Eolo), "right, and that seems like a bug, given what it seems like the point of the thing is"
Clem says, "Okay, so, attacking at 11/6."
Clem rolls 1d20+100: 1+100 | 101
[tomb] DM says, "Its AC is higher than 19"
Clem says, "Err."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Target Number."
DM asks, "The spiritual weapon gets to attack like you?"
Clem says, "That was a miss anyway, so."
DM looks it up
Clem says, "It's my base attack +5 for my wisdom."
Clem says, "My base is 6/1"
DM says, "Yep, okay"
Clem rolls 1d20+6: 15+6 | 21
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says (to Clem), "That was the most awesome roll ever."
Clem asks, "Any good?"
DM says, "Yep"
DM asks, "That's the second one?"
Clem says, "Yeah."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Don't we know its AC?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "20 or 21, I guess"
[tomb] Paulie says, "$BIGNUM"
Clem rolls 1d8+3: 2+3 | 5
[tomb] Eolo says, "maybe it has to be 20"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Seems to be larger than 19, less than 22." [tspoil] InnocentBystander says (to Eolo), "it's 21"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Right, so that was one hit, and my hit is magical, right?"
Clem says, "Man, G'taar's getting sloppy after that critical hit last time."
DM says, "The ghostly flaming greatsword takes a chunk out of its arm"
DM says, "one of its many arms"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Maybe it got damage reduction anyway."
(From FinnM) In the distance, thunder rumbles.
[tomb] Clem asks (of Paulie), "Does Grog have any deflection to AC?"
[Crows-Nest] InnocentBystander says, "now it regrows two arms where there was one"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "Heh"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Grog has a ring of protection +1."
[tomb] Clem says, "I'll step forward and cast Bull's Strength or Shield of Faith if there's a good recipient"
[tomb] Clem says, "strength enhancement +4 or AC deflection +3."
[tomb] Elgran says (to clem), "won't say no"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Which?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "hm, AC"
[tomb] Elgran says, "wait, no"
[tomb] Elgran says, "never mind"
[tomb] Clem says, "Otherwise I can just boost myself and step in next round."
[tomb] Elgran says, "my ring of protection is a deflection bonus"
[tomb] Elgran says, "do that"
Clem says, "Okay, screw it, I cast my big spell."
DM says, "Uh oh"
Clem says, "Or my biggish one, which is actually a level 1 Divine Favour."
(From DM) Clem casts CREATE FOOD AND WATER
[tomb] Paulie says, "If there's room for Grog to close in when his turn comes, then the strength +4 might help. Even though it's effectively only a +2, with his gauntlets."
[tomb] Eolo says (to DM), "ha ha ha"
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "ha ha"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Hah"
Clem says, "+3 to my attack and damage for 9 rounds."
[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "I was picturing clem shouting 'Apache CHIEEEEF' and growing to be 80 feet tall"
DM says, "10 rounds"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "hooray"
[tomb] Clem says, "This spell stacks with my REALLY big spell."
[Crows-Nest] Elgran says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Paulie asks (of Clem), "Does that apply to the floating sword too?"
DM says, "(one minute)"
[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "LEEEEROOOOY JEEEENKINS!"
DM says, "OK, keep track of that please"
[tomb] Clem says, "Probably not but I wouldn't complain."
Clem says, "Will do."
DM says, "You get a move action too if you wish"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "he actually does have a spell kind of like that"
Clem says, "I'll step past the pit and move forward behind the others."
[tomb] FinnM says, "He was directing the sword with his move action."
[tomb] Clem says, "No, it attacks by itself."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Err, nevermind."
[tomb] DM says, "I thought the sword just keeps going"
DM says, "OK, Elgran"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo | http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/righteousMight.htm
Elgran says, "Same as before"
Elgran says, "even the same 3 shifted to power attack"
Elgran rolls 1d20+12: 3+12 | 15
(From DM) Elgran says, "That is, I cast Confuse DM, Greater"
Elgran rolls 1d20+12: 6+12 | 18
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "I figured that wasn't good enough to be worth a level 5 slot, sadly."
[tomb] Elgran says, "ha ha"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "That level 1 spell is awesome, though."
DM asks, "This includes haste bonus?"
Elgran says, "yeah"
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "being enlarged is pretty good"
[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "What, you think I'm going to Grapple a guy with four arms? Huh?"
DM says, "and you get a flanking bonus"
[Crows-Nest] Paulie asks, "Shouldn't it be called Embiggen?"
[Crows-Nest] FinnM says, "It's righteous."
[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "I admit I dunno if it's overall that good"
Elgran says, "also included, sadly"
DM says, "You miss twice"
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Divine Favour seems to stack nicely with Divine Power, level 4."
[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "So."
[tomb] Elgran says, "(the haste and flanking bonuses go to the power attack)"
[tomb] DM says, "Gotcha"
Elgran rolls 1d20+7: 13+7 | 20
[tomb] Elgran asks, "a hit?"
DM says, "That, I'm afraid, is another miss"
[tomb] Rosie says, "This guy is way too hard to hit to use power attack."
[tomb] Elgran says, "aw"
[tomb] Clem says, "AC 21, looks like."
Elgran rolls 1d20+7: 7+7 | 14
Elgran says, "last attack"
[tomb] Clem says, "Unless my spiritual weapon is getting some bonus."
Elgran rolls 1d20+12: 12+12 | 24
[tomb] FinnM says, "And way too DRish to hit with a nonpower attack."
DM says, "That's a hit!"
[tomb] Elgran says (to rosie), "right, but the damage reduction means if I don't hit him hard it's the same as a miss"
Elgran rolls 1d6+11: 3+11 | 14
[tomb] Rosie says, "Hmm, OK."
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "What do you mean by 'the haste and flanking bonuses go to the power attack'?"
[tomb] DM says (to Crumbly), "They're bonuses to the attack roll"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "OK"
[tomb] DM says, "but then he is taking an equal penalty to his attack roll"
[tomb] Rosie says (to C), "He means he's using those bonuses to use for damage instead of to-hit."
[tomb] Elgran says (to crumbly), "I mean, I am shifting 3 from my attack roll to my power attack, and it happens to be the same as the +3 I get situationally"
[tomb] Elgran says, "anyway, I am done"
DM says, "You nick his nasty-looking ear"
[tomb] Clem asks, "So we've done, what 10hp total damage so far?"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "You can only pump damage with your base attack bonus using power attack."
DM says, "OK, Gargoyle's turn"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "(is why I ask)"
Rosie waves goodbye to everyone. [tspoil] josh_g says, "at this rate, they're all going to be dead before they get it to half damage"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "He only gets what, five attacks? ANd there are how many of us left?"
DM says, "The first arm tears at her chest"
[tomb] FinnM says, "six."
[tomb] Paulie says, "No problem."
[tomb] Elgran says (to crumbly), "er, I missed that"
[tomb] Clem asks, "By the way, who has a Dimension Door? Just in case?"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "So, if you mean that you're throwing your +3 BAB into power attack, but getting it back through situational bonuses, fine."
DM says, "doing 16 damage"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Clem), "I've got a scroll."
[tomb] Elgran says, "sure"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Hey, 7 left."
[tomb] Clem says, "Yie"
[tomb] Elgran says, "ow"
[tomb] Paulie says, "But I think it's only good for three people." [tspoil] InnocentBystander asks, "doesn't anyone have offensive spells?"
DM says, "The second one gets her in the head"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Wait, the arms attack separately? So Crumbly would have fallen before getting hit by the last few?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "it's true you do always have the option to run away"
[tomb] Clem says (to Rosie), "Shhhh"
[tomb] DM says (to Rosie), "Yeah, I should have rolled them separately"
[tomb] Eolo says, "this kind of sucks for Crumbly and (I guess) Rosie"
[tomb] DM says, "but didn't realize yet that it mattered"
[tomb] Eolo says, "but you could try to come back for them later"
DM says, "another 9 damage"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Why did we attack something smart enough to understand flanking bonuses?"
Rosie falls.
[tomb] Clem says, "But not dead, woohoo!" [tspoil] josh_g says, "they really needed to get over the idea that magic missile is too cliche, and just stock up"
[tomb] Clem says, "Yet!"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "It looked stupid." [tspoil] Eolo says, "yeah"
[tomb] Eolo says, "man, I wouldn't insult it"
[tomb] Elgran says, "you always think mutants are dumb"
[tomb] Eolo says, "I guess you don't care any more"
[tomb] Clem says, "You know, even though you two are dead, I'd like to say that the tumbling thing was totally awesome."
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "So, it's killed Rosie?"
DM says, "So with its Cleave it spins and keeps attacking Elgran"
[tomb] Elgran says, "but no, it turns out the enlarged heads have double-sized brains"
[tomb] DM says, "It dropped her"
[tomb] Elgran says, "I have a 24 AC"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Rosie is at -2, right?"
[tomb] DM says, "She's at -2 I think"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Yeah."
[tomb] Clem says, "And might die in 8 rounds."
[tomb] Elgran says, "(with the haste)"
[tomb] DM asks (of Elgran), "including Barkskin?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "oh, 28"
[tomb] Elgran says, "sheesh"
[tomb] DM says, "It hits"
[tomb] Elgran says, "sorry, I'll let you get on with the DMing"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Clem), "With the Haste, she can do it in six."
DM says, "It hits"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Rosie is still Hasted, so she bleeds out twice as faste."
[tomb] Clem says, "Eagh!"
[tomb] Rosie exclaims, "I'm not hasted!"
[tomb] DM says, "I thought Rosie wasn't hasted"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hey, she's not!"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Oh yeah."
[tomb] Clem says, "Hee hee."
DM says, "for 11 damage"
[tomb] InnocentBystander asks, "don't you have any, like, ranged weapons or spells?"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Rosie), "Sorry 'bout that. If I'd known you were going to be in the front lines..."
[tomb] FinnM says, "See, if we had a bard, he could be singing Killing Me Softly, with his claws"
Clem asks, "AC 28 and it hits??"
DM says, "Third arm misses"
