[tomb] PerrySimm says, "Log on."

[Crows-Nest] * DM has joined the channel.

Grog has arrived.

[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "Yay my mischannels will no longer go unnoticed ;-)"

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Exactly!"

Eolo has arrived.

[tomb] Paulie asks (of DM), "I assume you got s2 from me, right?"

[tomb] DM asks, "s2?"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "It's short for Stewart"

[tomb] Paulie says, "http://grunk.org/paulie-s2.txt -- I mentioned it when you were around, but maybe you didn't see."

[tomb] DM says, "Nope"

[tomb] DM says, "OK, I'll update the home page and see if my spreadsheet of stats needs to change"

[tomb] DM says, "posting to the #tomb bb is the best way to make sure I see stuff"

[tomb] Paulie says, "OK."

[tomb] Paulie says, "I don't think anything major changed except that Grog now has an extra option for weapons to use."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "I did update my character page with the inheritance. The only item I got that affects anything permanently is the Elven Boots."

[tomb] Clem says, "He's going to swing Elgran's corpse around whenever he needs a blunt weapon."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "hee"

[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "Remind me what parentheses mean for you"

[tomb] DM says, "Like Touch AC of 17 (18)"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Hmm, that's the opposite of my sheet, itsn't it? Sorry about that."

[tomb] Rosie says, "itsn't? isn't."

[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, everyone did it differently"

Clem finishes getting most of his armour on.

Clem says, "Hmm, not bad, since I started at 3am."

[tomb] Ebezar says (to Rosie), "to give you a heads-up, one of the combat options I had in mind was embiggening you and stacking on cat's grace for damage+to hit"

Ebezar says, "I find that armor distracts the mind from what is to come"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Parentheses are circumstance-related. That one is 18 versus traps."

Ebezar says, "Of course, this is why I tend to stay in the back."

Clem says, "I find it distracts nasty claws from my tender regions."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "I based mine on Paulie's at first, I think, but then decided to be more consistent about the meaning of the brackets, then came up with a scheme I liked better. But at least I documented it on the sheet."

[tomb] Rosie says (to Ebezar), "Aha, cool."

Clem checks his sword for flaminess.

Paulie says (to Ebezar), "Ye might want to try some of my armor on. Ye'd hardly know ye're wearing it."

josh_g has arrived.

[tomb] DM asks, "OK, does anyone want to take over Finn?"

[tomb] DM says, "I think Roger gave permission"

Crumbly says, "You ought to try Mithral(tm). It just kind of slides on."

[tomb] Eolo says, "perhaps josh_g does"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Does he have a new familiar?"

[tomb] DM says, "otherwise we could say Finn is out harvesting berries and stuff while you all go back in"

[tomb] Clem says, "If so, perhaps it could be coincidentally extremely similar to his previous familiar."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Meet the new familiar, same as the old familiar."

[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, his new familiar is Kong II"

[tomb] Eolo says, "Finn stayed outside to come in and pick up bodies later"

[tomb] Clem says, "Let's call him Kung."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "The second monarch in the Kong dynasty"

[tomb] DM asks, "Anyone?"

[tomb] Clem says, "I guess I could take Finn if nobody else wants to."

[tomb] DM says, "Sold!"

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Anyone not playing, or could one of us do it?"

[tomb] Rosie says, "timing."

[tomb] Clem asks, "He'll just Barkskin everybody and then meekly do any dangerous thing we ask, rigbht?"

[tomb] DM says, "I was assuming a player would, since lots of other non-players have already been spoiled"

Ebezar says (to crumbly), "I know of other 'friends of boccob' who have worn mithril"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Gotcha."

[tomb] DM says, "All right then"

DM says, "Welcome back"

DM says, "to the Tomb"

(From Clem) Finn says, "Breakfast is up, everyone! Also I bought a flagon of finest mead in town, at my own expense. I hope that's okay."

DM says, "... of HORRORS!"

[tomb] Rosie says, "I know! We can all vote for every move that Finn makes! That should be fast."

DM | http://hamesucken.com/tomb/1.wav

Crumbly says, "Ugh, 'mithril'. That cheap knock-off. I only wear genuine brand-name Mithral(tm)."

[tomb] josh_g says, "oh hey, I wasn't paying attention"

[tomb] josh_g asks, "you need someone to take over a character?"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says (to DM), "yay"

[tomb] Clem says, "If you haven't read the scenario, sure."

[tomb] DM says (to josh_g), "You've been on the spoiler channel"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says (to Crumbly), "I cannot spell 'mithral'. At least I've learned to spell 'sorcerer'"

[tomb] josh_g says, "oh, right, and I did read some of the scenario"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "mostly"

[tomb] josh_g says, "nm"

Clem asks, "Hey, did somebody burst into maniacal laughter there?"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says (to DM), "hee hee"

Crumbly says, "So, let's talk plans. I think that, as we went to such effort and sacrifice to kill that gargoyle, it would be senseless to not take advantage of the fact that it's dead and exlpore the passages from its room."

Clem says, "Don't tell me I forgot to put on my buttock-guards again."

DM says, "For some reason Ebezar has joined you"

Clem says (to Crumbly), "That sounds like a good plan."

Ebezar says, "I have long been interested in the tomb. In fact, I feel as if my whole life has led to this one moment."

[Crows-Nest] nothings says (to DM), "hahaha"

Paulie says (to Crumbly), "Agreed."

[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "ha ha"

[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "and your whole life will end in this moment"

[Crows-Nest] Rosie says (to Ebezar), "Hee hee"

Paulie says, "I'd still like to know what was hinted at being under those pits at some point, though."

Clem asks, "What, the pits in the corridor?"

Rosie says, "Yeah. But next, probably."

Crumbly says, "Yeah, it sounded like some of the pit traps have passages leading from them."

Clem says, "How about we check that whole corridor for more pit-traps, then read the whole inscription."

Ebezar says, "From what you have told me of your previous encounter, that sounds like a reasonable approach."

(From Clem) Finn says, "That's a great plan, Clem, more mead for you."

Crumbly says, "OK, we can do that. Hints are good."

[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha"

DM says, "All righty, let me see how far you got into the corridor last time"

[tomb] Clem says, "Finn seems to have 5 barkskins."

[tomb] Clem says, "And he has AC 29 so doesn't need one."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Old clues, once again, are at: http://www.henchmonkey.org/forum/discussion/43/"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Who wants bark?"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Note: due to level loss, I will only be searching at 36 when I take tens now."

[tomb] Rosie says, "I would wait."

[tomb] Ebezar asks, "what's the AC bonus?"

[tomb] Eolo says, "bark 'em if you got 'em"

Paulie says, "Shall we vote, then? If we want to start with the gargoyle's chambers, say aye. If we want to start with the corridor, say arr."

Rosie exclaims, "Awry!"

Crumbly says, "I vote to finish the corridor inscriptions first."

Crumbly says, "Arr"

Clem says, "Corridorrrarrr."

Grog shrugs.

[tomb] Clem says, "+2 enhancement to AC."

Paulie says, "The arrrrrs have it."

[tomb] Clem says, "90 minutes."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "hm, and 90 minutes worth"

[tomb] Clem says, "No, hang on, +4."

[tomb] Eolo says, "natural enhancement bonus"

[tomb] DM says, "+4, yeah"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Specifically, to your 'natural armor', which stacks with armor."

[tomb] Eolo says, "er, natural armor bonus"

Paulie prepares by casting some mage armors on any PC in need of it. Which is presumably just Paulie and Ebezar.

[tomb] Ebezar says (to Paulie), "I should get the mage armor from you soon, since it'll last 9 hours and it's easier to do now than in combat."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "timing"

DM says, "All righty"

Ebezar says, "You have my thanks. Sadly I neglected that school of magic during my education"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Actually six, since I split my levels, but I don't think we need to worry about surviving that long."

Crumbly asks, "So, I'm going into the TOMB OF HORRORS. Any noticable changes?"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Okay, how does the Barkskin work out?"

Crumbly asks, "Like, are the pits all closed again or anything?"

Ebezar says, "mainly because I learned early on that fire is pretty."

DM says, "Crumbly walks in while everyone else is still dithering"

[tomb] Clem says, "I'm going to say Crumbly, Paulie, Rosie, Clem and Ebezar."

Rosie follows.

DM says, "The corridor seems untouched since you left it"

[tomb] DM says, "OK"

(From Clem) Finn casts Barkskin on Crumbly, Paulie, Rosie, Clem and Ebezar.

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Same marching order, s/Elgran/Ebezar/?"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "works for me"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Remind me how it went?"

[tomb] DM says, "Crumbly in front, Elgran/Wolf, Finn/Kong, Paulie/Grog, Clem/Rosie"

Clem says, "Somebody suggested searching the pit traps."

[tomb] DM says, "was the old order"

[tomb] Paulie says, "'Crumbly, Ebezar, Finn, Kong, Paulie, Grog, Klem, Rosie', so maybe Ebezar should be moved back near Paulie/Grog."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "hm, yeah."

[tomb] Clem says, "How about either Rosie or me goes second."

[tomb] Clem says, "Rosie is fast, I'm hitpointy."

Rosie says, "I'm quick and can get to the front if need be."

[tomb] Clem says, "Or Grog, maybe."

[tomb] Clem says, "Yeah, how about Grog, since I have range spells I can use."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "good reflex save people in the front is also a good thing"

Ebezar asks, "I'll just be back here, then, yes?"

[tomb] DM says, "Someone propose an order and everyone else say 'OK'"

Clem keeps a careful lookout for anything with more than three arms.

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Mmm. I guess I can handle Grog being that far away if he can. So, 'Crumbly, Grog, Finn, Kong, Paulie, Ebezar, Klem, Rosie'?"

[tomb] Clem says, "OK"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "I'm okay with anything where I'm in front, which I think is uncontroversial."

[tomb] Paulie says, "And if we get in a wide space, we'll pair up as listed, I suppose."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "'OK'"

Clem asks (of Ebezar), "So, how did you get into the were-lich scene?"

DM says, "OK, you all tiptoe around the pits and everything"

[tomb] Rosie says, "'ok'"

DM says, "and get to where you broke off earlier"

Ebezar says, "My father--but a moment, let me slide past this pit--was killed by one, according to the other adventurers with him."

Clem asks, "Oh, the others survived?"

Clem asks, "Or did they recount this with their dying breaths?"

Ebezar says, "No, they all survived. They were able to return with my father."

Ebezar says, "I had no idea were-liches favored stabbing people in the back repeatedly."

DM asks, "Is Crumbly searching for more traps or anything?"

Clem says, "Well, they're chaotic bitchy or something along those lines."

DM asks, "or are you just going to keep traipsing down the hall?"

Crumbly says, "I'm going to start searching for traps immediately past the last chalkmark."

[Crows-Nest] nothings says (to Ebezar), "heehee"

DM says, "More runes:"

Crumbly says, "The last couple of pits we marked in chalk, IIRC."

DM says, "These keys and those are most important of all, and beware of trembling hands and what will maul."

Clem casts Light on another piece of chalk, because that was pretty cool last time.

[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Someone copying that?"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "adding to the bb"

[tomb] Rosie says, "I can be in charge of posting if you like."

[tomb] Clem says, "This Light also lasts 90 minutes, so when the chalk goes out we lose our +4 armour bonuses."

DM says, "A little further, Crumbly finds another pit, right in the middle of the runed path"

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Eb, you doing that?"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "done"

[tomb] Ebezar says (to Clem), "oh, clever"

DM says, "More runes:"

DM says, "If you find the false you find the true, and into the columned hall you'll come, and there the throne that's key and keyed."

[tomb] Clem says (to Ebezar), "It's great for magical graffiti also."

DM says, "By the way, now you're far enough down the corridor that you can see the end of it"

Clem says, "Key and keyed? Hrm."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Any more doors/door-like-things along the way?"

[tomb] DM says (to Rosie), "Nope, just more of the usual frescoes"

Paulie says, "Wonder if Acererak got bored waiting around for someone to get far enough for him to kill 'em personally."

Crumbly says, "I can only assume that these will make sense when we find the things they're referring to.,"

Crumbly asks, "So, no more runes?"

DM says (to Crumbly), "Yeah, there are more runes, but first I'm describing the end of the corridor"

Crumbly says, "OK"

DM | http://hamesucken.com/tomb/6.jpg

Ebezar says, "He seems to enjoy sprinkling clues about"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 asks, "what kind of character is Ebezar?"

DM says, "is in the middle of the wall at end of the corridor"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "wizard"

Crumbly says, "My, what a big mouth you have."

DM says, "and on the left hand wall at the end of the corridor is this:"

DM | http://hamesucken.com/tomb/5.jpg

[tomb] Clem says, "It does seem like a good plan for the person standing closest to that mouth to have a good Reflex save."

DM says, "The runed path forks at the end, with paths leading to both of them"

DM says, "Now, to continue with the runes"

DM says, "Oops, first another pit in the middle of the path, which Crumbly marks"

DM says, "Runes: The iron men of visage grim do more than meets the viewer's eye."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Hey, this is the classic, "Go ahead--stick your hand in the hole!""

DM says, "and the final set, just before the path forks:"

DM says, "You've left and left and found my Tomb and now your soul will die."

DM | http://hamesucken.com/tomb/1.wav

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "well, iron men clearly refers to transformers"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "hee"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "and hee again"

Paulie asks, "Golems?"

Crumbly says, "Those lefts sound like directions rather than verbs."

DM says, "OK, let me give you a couple of text dumps, since you've earned them!"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "I had no idea what a multimedia production the tomb was"

DM says, "A section of the red tile path leads into a mist-filled stone archway. Three large stones are embedded in the arch. Each has a different hue -- yellow on the lower left, bluish at the top of the arch, and orange on the lower right."

DM says, "A fork of the red tile path leads directly to a leering devil face set in the mosaic at the corridor's end. The devil's mouth gapes wide and empty -- in fact it is dead black, emitting no hint of light and allowing none entry."

DM says, "There are no other doors or doorways or anything"

Clem asks, "Do we want to backtrack and search the gargoyle room now?"

Crumbly says, "Colors. We've got clues about colors."

Rosie says, "I think so."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "ha ha ha"

Crumbly says, "Yeah"

Ebezar says, "What I recall of your prior clues, there was reference to avoiding green but seeking night's good color"

Crumbly says, "We might want to check the pits."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Oh, hmm. Did Crumbly ever cast Diviniation or whatever?"

Ebezar says, "I wonder if the author of the clues had darkvision or not."

Rosie says, "Ah, right."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Crumbly is not a spellcaster."

[tomb] DM says, "Clem never did"

[tomb] DM says, "His intelligence is only 10"

Paulie says (to Ebezar), "Every sailor knows that ye want a red sky at night."

Ebezar says, "I traveled on a boat once."

Rosie floats over the last pit, leans down and punches it to open it.

Ebezar says, "I, well, spent the entire time belowdecks."

DM says, "It's your standard spiked pit trap"

[tomb] Ebezar asks (of Rosie), "float?"

DM says, "10' deep"

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Ten gp a dozen at Home Dungeon."

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Yay."

[tomb] Clem says, "I never did, sorry."

[tomb] Ebezar asks (of DM), "oh, hey, mind if I go ahead and cast my false life spell?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Although I still have it handy now."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "(1d10+9 extra hp for 9 hrs)"

[tomb] DM says, "Hey, cool"

Crumbly says, "The clue about the 'fortuitous fall' said to check the wall. The passage may be hidden."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "I'm going to keep listening to this wav file during the session when it seems appropriate"

[tomb] DM says, "Go for it"

[tomb] Clem says, "I can cast it any time we need to choose between two equally-bad-looking doorways or whatever."

Ebezar rolls 1d10+9: 9+9 | 18

Crumbly says, "But I don't think we've found anything fortuitous-looking."

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Rosie says, "(I have boots of levitation)"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "the media player I get for WAVs on the net defaults to looping"

[tomb] Ebezar says (to Rosie), "aha"

[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "ha ha"

Clem looks closely at the first pit.

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "and I had it covered over and didn't realize it was the player, not the wav"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "ha ha"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Heh."

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "hee"

DM asks (of Clem), "The first one, like back at the beginning?"

Clem says, "I guess."

Clem says, "I'm right at the back of the group anyway."

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "hate the wav, not the playa"

Crumbly says, "If we really want to pursure this avenue, I should climb down into the pits and search them."

DM says, "The first pit is the one that Elgran triggered beneath Crumbly"

[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "ha ha ha"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says (to Ebezar), "nice roll... looks like you're moving to the front lines!"

Clem says (to Crumbly), "Yeah, good idea."

DM says, "And it's your standard spiked pit trap"

Paulie says, "Ah, Elgran, that old joker."

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says (to nothings), "ha"

DM says, "You could roll for search"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "hee hee"

Rosie searches the final pit's walls, levitating over the spikes.

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 plays the wav again

Clem rolls search for 1d20 for: 1 | 1

Crumbly says, "Pff."

Clem says, "Yup, this looks like your standard 10' pit trap."

Rosie rolls search for d20+1: 1 | 1

Crumbly says, "Give me those boots."

Rosie rolls search for 1d20+1: 1 | 1

[tomb] Rosie says, "er."

Clem says, "Hang on."

[tomb] Paulie asks (of Rosie), "Uh. WHa?"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "er"

[Crows-Nest] (from josh_g) Clem says, "Why, I just had one of these installed in my backyard."

[tomb] DM says, "The syntax might be the other way around"

Rosie rolls 1d20+1: 10+1 | 11

Clem rolls 1d20 for search: 20 | 20

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "roll for save against sucky rolls"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "roll 1d20"

Crumbly rolls 1d20: 20 | 20

Crumbly rolls 1d20: 7 | 7

Crumbly rolls 1d20: 7 | 7

Crumbly rolls 1d20: 14 | 14

Crumbly rolls 1d20: 15 | 15

DM asks (of Crumbly), "What are these?"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Aha, I had tried 'roll 1d20 search'"

Crumbly rolls 1d20+5: 5+5 | 10

Clem says, "I think he's just checking the dice."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Looks to me like the dice are working."

DM says, "Neither Rosie nor Clem finds anything interesting"

Crumbly says, "Yeah."

Clem says, "Hey you guys, I found a pit!"

[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "ha ha"

Paulie asks, "What about the ones we left closed?"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "If I were searching, I'd just be taking tens."

Crumbly asks, "There's, what, two like that?"

Rosie checks the next few, going back up the corridor and opening them if need be.

Clem says, "'Two pits along the way will be found to lead to a fortuitous fall, so check the wall'."

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 5+1 | 6

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 18+1 | 19

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 14+1 | 15

DM says, "There are a total of six, including the one that Elgran opened"

Clem says, "That either means two separate pits, or like the second pit."

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 15+1 | 16

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 8+1 | 9

[tomb] Rosie says, "There, all six."

DM says, "Rosie sees nothing special"

[tomb] Rosie says, "My 19 was for the third-from-the-end."

[tomb] Rosie says, "(they are all now open)"

Crumbly says, "OK. Maybe it's talking about some other pits."

Clem asks (of Crumbly), "Do you want to get down there and check the wall, like it says?"

Clem says, "Or maybe it means the wall of the corridor."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Er, someone with a better Search roll should search."

[tomb] Paulie says, "I think I'd be more comfortable if Crumbly did a search."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Timing."

Ebezar says, "It perhaps refers merely to staying against the wall to avoid a precipitous and spiked drop"

Rosie says, "I didn't find anything, but it was kind of cursory."

Crumbly says, "OK, someone hold this rope."

Clem holds the rope.

[tomb] Paulie says, "Someone who can hit DC 20 without, say, trying very hard."

Grog holds the rope too.

Clem asks (of Grog), "Hey, don't you trust me?"

Crumbly searches each pit in turn, taking 10 for 36.

DM says, "It takes a while, but you go through all the pits"

Clem watches his chalk slowly getting dimmer...

Grog looks hurt. "Grog just try to help."

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "I will never see someone take 10 on searching without thinking of Halley in that OOTS strip"

Crumbly says, "Um, I may have to make climb checks too."

Crumbly says, "In order to not fall."

DM says, "I figure you're okay with the rope"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "heh yeah"

Crumbly says, "I take tens on those as well, for 16."

DM says, "But thanks for volunteering to"

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Hanging upside down from a rope probably does not lessen the similarities."

DM says, "The last pit actually has something interesting on the west wall"

Clem says, "Oho!"

DM says, "Maybe some sort of a door, but it doesn't open from this side"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "the 'go back to the tormentor or through the arch' clue seems to indicate the fork where we just were"

Clem says, "So, the pit at entirely the opposite end of the corridor from where I am."

DM says, "The farthest end (at the south)"

[tomb] Clem says, "I wonder what the tormentor is."

Crumbly says, "Posible interpretation: the 'two pits along the way' are this one and another one in some other corridor that jons with this one"

[tomb] Paulie says, "dfan, I presume."

Crumbly says, "providing an escape route"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "there is something comforting and homey about these old-school pen drawnigs"

[tomb] Clem says, "Ha."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "I was thinking it was the devil face"

Crumbly says, "Let's go back to the gargoyle room now"

Clem says, "Okay, so, looks like we go through the misty doorway, or the weird black mouth thing, or back to where the gargoyle was."

Clem says, "I say -- gargoyle, yeah."

Rosie exclaims, "Gargoyle!"

Ebezar says, "More exploration of the gargoyle room might provide more direction."

Paulie says, "Aye, gargoyle."

Clem says, "If there are two or three more of those bad boys in there, I'd like to know now."

DM says, "OK, you backtrack north to the hallway to the west that you had uncovered"

Crumbly says, "I did see at least one passage out of it before I died."

[Crows-Nest] (from Rob_2) Ebezar says, "also this sound effect. my grandpappy used to laugh like that"

DM says, "and into the gargoyle room"

Clem says, "Yeah, I remember you croaking that in your last few seconds on this mortal coil."

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Ha ha ha ha"

DM says, "The room is 30' wide by 20' deep as you enter from the east"

Clem asks (of Crumbly), "Hey, want to search this little linking corridor first?"

DM says, "And there are in fact two doors"

Clem says, "The corridor with all the bloodstains on the floor."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is anyone drawing an official-ish map?"

DM says, "One is in the south wall, and one is in the east wall, south of the door you entered by"

[tomb] Clem says, "That is a good plan."

Crumbly says, "I search them both for traps, taking ten for 36."

DM says, "Also there is a dead mutant four-armed gargoyle"

Crumbly says, "I kick it."

DM says, "No traps on the doors"

Clem says, "Quick, save against stubbing."

DM says, "The contractors must have fallen down on the job"

[Crows-Nest] nothings asks, "remind me, did they enter the whole place from the north or the south?"

Ebezar says, "What an interesting specimen. I have never seen such a creature."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Do gargoyles have ears?"

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "North"

Crumbly says, "I listen at each door, taking ten for 26."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "oh ok"

DM says, "You hear this:"

Clem says (to Ebezar), "It was peppier before we hacked it to death."

DM | http://hamesucken.com/tomb/1.wav

DM says, "OK, maybe not"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "heehee"

Ebezar prods it gently.

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "my mental model was inverted"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yay."

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar exclaims, "ha!"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "like I thought what he just said was west was on the right"

DM says, "You hear nothing"

Grog cuts off a piece of the gargoyle while the searching is going on. Probably an ear.

Crumbly asks, "They check oky, guys. Any preferences?"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says (to Rob), "so was mine, except he kept having all this stuff to the south, so it seemed pretty likely I had it backwards"

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "west is on the right, they entered from the north, heading south"

Rosie says, "East, back towards the corridor."

[tomb] Ebezar asks, "so who's taking the mapping task?"

Clem says, "Works for me."

Rosie says, "Most likely to be a closet."

Paulie says, "Sure."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Anyone have grid paper on hand?"

Crumbly says, "OK. Stand back. I am going to open the door."

[tomb] Clem says, "It would be kind of a hassle on this laptop."

Grog gets ready to attack anything behind the door.

Ebezar tries to cower in a non-cowardly way.

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "a little move I call the cower of power"

Crumbly opens east door

[tomb] Rosie search search search

DM says, "The door opens into a 10' by 10' room!!"

[tomb] Crumbly has graph paper

DM says, "This small chamber is empty of scent, stain, or decor. Only the dense layer of dust reveals the uncounted years since any moved through this chamber since the present."

Clem says, "Awesome, an evil closet."

[tomb] Clem asks, "Shouldn't that be 'until the present'?"

Crumbly says, "I search it."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Ah, found some. Shall I?"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "sure"

[tomb] Clem says, "Why don't you both do it."

Crumbly says, "36"

[tomb] Clem says, "And then we can compare afterwards."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Sure"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, that sounds good."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "in a comp game it would have said 'Non-Descript Room. There's nothing much to see here. An exit leads west.'"

DM says, "As Crumbly is walking around in there, an arrow comes out of nowhere and stabs him in the thigh"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Heh."

DM says, "3 damage"

[tomb] Crumbly asks, "The corridor leading to the gargoyle was 20', right? How long was the rune corridor?"

Crumbly says, "ow"

Ebezar says, "My goodness"

Clem says, "Holy crap! Wait, I mean, blasphemous crap!"

Paulie says, "Yarr."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Aw, man. I'm the one with Deflect Arrows."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "dude look out"

DM says, "That's distracting enough that I'm going to make you actually roll your search check"

DM says, "rather than just taking 10"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Clearly, reflex saves are not all they're made out to be."

Crumbly says, "OK"

Crumbly rolls 1d20+26: 10+26 | 36

Crumbly says, "ha"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "haha"

[tomb] Rosie laughs.

[tomb] Clem says, "Heh, not an easy guy to distract."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "The main corridor was 10' wide?"

DM says, "There's a secret door in the south wall"

[tomb] DM says, "The big corridor was 20' wide"

Crumbly asks, "Can I take tens again yet?"

DM says, "Sure"

Clem says (to Crumbly), "Okay, hold on a moment, let me cure that arrow wound."

Crumbly listens at secret door for 26

Clem uses charge 1 of 50 from his cure light wounds wand.

DM says, "Oops, another arrow flies out of nowhere and hits Crumbly"

DM says, "8 damage"

DM says, "You don't hear anything"

[tomb] Clem says, "You'd think I'd have noted down how many HP this wand cures."

Crumbly bah

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "oh no, you cured it while the arrow was still in the leg"

Crumbly gets out of the room

Paulie says, "Maybe ye should check that area for traps."

[tomb] Eolo says, "1d8+1, I believe"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "I'm down 11 now."

Clem asks (of DM), "Should I roll for cure now?"

DM says, "Sure"

Rosie enters the room with Crumbly, and readies herself to intercept arrows.

Clem rolls 1d8+1: 6+1 | 7

DM says, "Crumbly left"

[tomb] Rosie says, "A bit late, but still."

[tomb] Clem says, "I'll let you decide if that was before or after the second arrow."

[tomb] DM says, "It was after, that's fine"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Can we tell where the arrows were coming from?"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "'Nowhere'"

[tomb] DM says, "Well, it's hard to tell without poking your head in"

[tomb] nothings says (to DM), "You will go down in history as the nicest DM ever to deliver a TPK."

[tomb] DM says, "but they seemed to be from different areas of the room"

Rosie asks (of Crumbly), "Is the door ready to open?"

[tomb] DM says, "and you don't see any obvious places for arrows to be coming from"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Hmm, is this worth a detect magic?"

[tomb] Rosie says, "I doubt it."

[tomb] Clem asks, "Or is it just one of those things?"

[tomb] Rosie says, "They're fairly wimpy arrows."

DM says, "Rosie gets hit by an arrow"

Crumbly says, "I nominate the monk for going in there and looking for arrow sources."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "it's mechanistic, I'd bet"

[tomb] Rosie says, "I have deflect arrows"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "perhaps there are tell-tale stirrings of dust"

[tomb] DM says, "Oho, explain that to me"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "she can knock the arrow off-course and into crumbly"

[tomb] Rosie says, "I can catch one arrow/round that would have hit me."

[tomb] Eolo says, "you can automatically deflect one arrow a round"

[tomb] josh_g says (to Ebezar), "ha ha ha"

[tomb] DM says, "Sweet"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I wonder if I should detect poison."

[tomb] Clem asks, "Automatically automatically?"

DM says, "Wait, it missed her!!"

Clem says (to Rosie), "Quick, throw that arrow out here!"

[tomb] Paulie says, "(On Crumbly, or on an arrow, or whatever.)"

Clem says, "Er, without hitting anyone."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "hee hee"

[Crows-Nest] (from Rob_2) DM says, "Ok, Rosie throws the arrow. It hits Crumbly for 8 damage."

Rosie tosses the arrow out of the room.

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "man, crumbly-seeking arrows"

DM says, "Another arrow whizzes by Rosie"

Clem examines it with, er, which skill would that be?

DM says, "(this one would have missed even without her special ability)"

Crumbly says, "Craft: Fletching"

DM says (to Crumbly), "EW"

Ebezar says, "Perhaps this room has more arrows than we care to count"

DM says, "Oh, fletching"

Rosie says, "Hmm, I'm getting the sense that these arrows are fairly continuous."

Clem says, "It looks like you could deflect them all day, though."

Rosie watches the walls to see if she can tell where they're coming from.

Paulie asks, "While our spells slowly ran out?"

Crumbly asks, "Rosie, Do you get any idea where they're coming from?"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "this is like that part in the buffy musical where buffy is knocking thrown weapons aside"

Clem asks (of Crumbly), "Did you say you found a door?"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says (to DM), "ha ha ha"

Crumbly says, "Yeah, in the south wall."

Paulie asks, "Mind if I see that arrow?"

Crumbly says, "Dunno how to open it"

Rosie says, "Maybe I'll just open that door."

DM says, "Another one flies out of nowhere but Rosie instinctively ducks"

[tomb] Clem says, "Hey you guys, I'm pretty sure this is an arrow."

[tomb] Clem says, "Yup, that's what this is here."

DM says, "It really seems to be out of a random spot each time"

Rosie says, "Maybe it is magic."

DM says, "and it's almost as if it's less likely to come from a spot if you're looking at it"

Paulie casts detect poison at the arrow.

Rosie looks to try to figure out how to open the door.

Crumbly says, "Could be a spell of some sort. Could be an invisible goblin with a bow."

Clem casts another cure light on Crumbly from his wand, why not.

Clem rolls 1d8+1: 1+1 | 2

Crumbly asks, "What if two people go in and stand back to back?"

Clem says, "An arrow through each ear, that's what."

DM says (to Rosie), "Hmm, it's not obvious"

Rosie says, "Let's just figure out how to get through here."

[tomb] Paulie says, "After detecting poison finishes, I'll be happy to try detecting magic."

Ebezar says, "I can try a simple cantrip on the door."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Can I roll something?"

Crumbly says, "There is another door if we get tired of this."

DM says, "Let's just take it as implicit from now on that Rosie is ducking or weaving every few seconds"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Although I'm not sure if that's likely to do anything more than say 'yup, the whole room's a magic trap'."

Ebezar says, "In fact, I can cantrip it without exposing myself to arrows."

[tomb] DM says (to Rosie), "To figure out how to open it? Nah, just tell me what you want to try if you want to try something"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh, OK."

Rosie taps the south wall and feels around for irregularities.

[tomb] Rosie says, "and after that, the other walls."

[tomb] Ebezar asks (of DM), "how heavy does the door look?"

DM says, "It's your standard stone wall with your standard stone secret door that looks just like a wall in the middle of it"

DM says, "The other walls are normal too"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Is there some way we could shield Crumbly while he's searching?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Like cover him with shields."

Rosie checks the floor and ceiling, too.

DM says, "except for the arrows occasionally coming out of them"

[tomb] Paulie asks (of Rosie), "How about just pushing the door?"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "hm, if it's heavier than 30#, the spell's no good"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Or a Deflect Arrows spell, say"

DM says, "Floors and ceilings too"

Rosie pushes on the door.

[tomb] Paulie asks (of DM), "So, any result to the detecting of poison?"

[tomb] DM says (to Ebezar), "It looks like the rest of the wall"

[tomb] DM says, "No poison on the arrow"

DM says, "It doesn't give"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "If there had been poison, I'd have been asked to make a saving throw."

[tomb] Paulie says (to Crumbly), "Or it'd have been made for you."

DM says, "I mean, it feels a little like it should be able to move somehow"

Clem says, "I'd like to ponder a bit and try to figure out what spell might be creating these arrows, which is presumably Spellcraft."

Clem rolls 1d20+6: 14+6 | 20

Crumbly says, "Do we have anyone really strong? Sometimes you can just break secret doors down."

Ebezar says, "Oh, interesting; if that's allowed, I'd like to do the same."

DM says, "But pushing it doesn't *whoosh* help"

Clem says, "We have Grog."

[tomb] Paulie says, "So, if people want, I'm happy to use either Detect Magic to look for the trap trigger or whatever, or do use Mage Hand to fiddle with the door."

Grog says, "Grog strong."

DM says (to Clem), "It's magic"

Rosie hooks a caltrop into a crack in the door and tries to pull.

Clem says, "I say Grog goes in there and smashes the door in and I heal him afterwards if necessary."

Clem says (to Grog), "If that's okay with you."

DM says (to Rosie), "Hmm, it seems to wiggle a little"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "if this takes too long we won't be able to reach the door through all of the arrows piled in the closet"

Grog smash puny door.

DM says, "Not so much out towards you but downwards, when you pull"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "With the crowbar, I suppose. Straight STR check?"

Rosie tries pulling down on the caltrop/crack.

DM says, "The door slides down into the floor"

Rosie exclaims, "Wa-hey!"

DM says, "exposing another 10' by 10' room to the south"

Clem says, "Wow, nice work."

Grog is disappointed that he didn't get to smash.

DM says, "Another arrow whizzes by Rosie as if in appreciation"

Rosie peers into the next room.

[tomb] Clem says, "It's almost like this scenario was written before you could open secret doors just by rolling a d20."

DM says, "It looks just like the first one"

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "I'm imagining this now like a Nethack arrow trap."

Rosie says, "Well, hey."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "I'm not sure you can do that nowadays either, if you actually go by the rules."

Rosie enters.

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Which are hugely useful if you're running low on arrows and are good at dodging."

Clem says, "Either this room also has magic arrows in which case we should send Rosie in, or it has some other horrible trap in which case we should send Crumbly."

DM says, "An arrow flies up from the corner of the room and Rosie ducks just in time"

Clem asks (of DM), "Hey, are these arrows vanishing or anything?"

DM says, "Nope, the arrows are piling up"

DM says, "You guys can still see her"

[tomb] Eolo says, "too bad Elgran isn't around to pocket them"

[tomb] Clem says, "We could just start an arrow manufacturing business here."

[tomb] Eolo says, "or quiver them or whatever"

Rosie searches the next room.

[tomb] Clem says, "I was thinking we could sell them."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Grog has the bow now, actually."

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 8+1 | 9

[tomb] Paulie says, "But it's already got a big pile of arrows."

[tomb] Clem asks, "An arrow is what, 1sp?"

[tomb] Clem says, "1sp per round."

DM says (to Rosie), "You don't notice anything in particular"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "save them to buy diamonds for resurrection"

[tomb] Clem says, "So that's, uh, a few hundred gp a day."

DM says, "Another arrow whizzes by, &c"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "100,000 arrows for one res, right?"

[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha ha"

Rosie says, "Crumbly, you want to help find the secret door in here? I can try to attract the arrows."

[tomb] nothings says, "heehee"

Crumbly asks, "She gets arrows in the second room too?"

DM says (to Crumbly), "Yes"

[tomb] Clem pockets any arrows that are close enough to the safe room to pick up safely.

Crumbly says, "Bah, I want to try the other door."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Man, this Feat is tailor-made for these rooms."

[tomb] DM says, "Yeah :("

[tomb] Ebezar says, "ha ha aw"

Clem says, "Yeah, let's try the other door first."

Crumbly says, "I'm going to open the southern door of the gargoyle room now."

Crumbly says, "Brace yourselves."

Clem says, "If we need to go through the arrow rooms, let's just all go through and I can heal us up afterwards."

Crumbly flings it wide

DM says (to Crumbly), "Behind the door is a 10' by 10' room"

DM says, "with a door on the opposite (south) side"

[tomb] Clem says, "Mutant four-armed 10'x10' room."

Crumbly asks, "Hm. The southern wall of the gargoyle room is 20' wide, right? And the door was in the center?"

DM says, "This door was at the eastern end of the south wall"

Crumbly says, "OK"

[tomb] Paulie says, "It seems there ought to be some way to fit a 'forewarned' joke in there someplace."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Can I search again and/or take 10/20?"

DM says, "The door Rosie went through is at the south end of the east wall"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "I don't think you can do that while being distracted by arrow-deflection."

[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, you can't take 10"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Can he take maybe 8?"

Crumbly says, "OK. I'm going into the room to the south."

[tomb] Rosie says, "I'll do that for 11."

Crumbly asks, "What happens to me?"

DM says (to Crumbly), "Nothing!"

Crumbly exclaims, "No!"

DM says, "By which I mean, you have been vaporized into nothing"

Crumbly says, "I search the door, taking ten for 36."

DM says, "Seriously, it's just a 10' by 10' room with a door at the opposite end"

DM says (to Crumbly), "Normal door"

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Quick, everyone inhale some of the vapor. We need those remains to raise him."

Clem says, "And a visp of vapour that used to be Crumbly."

Clem says, "visp? wisp."

Crumbly says, "Listen, 26"

DM says, "You hear nothing"

Crumbly says, "Open"

Grog says, "Quiet place."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Nothing found, I guess?"

DM says, "but the faint sounds of arrows flying through the air and hitting walls"

[tomb] DM asks, "what did 'for 11' mean?"

[tomb] Rosie says, "It means I have +1, so if I take 10, I get 11."

DM says (to Crumbly), "It opens into an empty 10' by 10' room"

[tomb] DM says, "You can't take 10"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "But you can't take 10 while distracted."

DM says, "With a door on the right (west) wall"

[tomb] Rosie says, "*smack*"

[tomb] nothings says, "'Yeah' meant 'no'"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Misread."

[tomb] DM says, "Yeah was agreeing with Crumbly, yeah"

[tomb] Paulie asks (of Crumbly), "Did you search for other doors in that room?"

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Can I just try again?"

[tomb] DM says (to Rosie), "Sure"

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 8+1 | 9

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 17+1 | 18

DM says (to Rosie), "You figure there's got to be something there, but nope, you can't see it"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "You can probably take 20, considering that that just means doing it over and over again. It'll take 20 minutes, though."

Rosie says, "Cruuuuuumblyyyyyyyy..."

[tomb] Clem says, "We'll all be debarked by the time you're done."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Oh, if you insist. I'll go back to the east door and trust Rosie to protect me."

[tomb] Clem readies his wand again.

Rosie shadows Crumbly, trying to be the one the arrows fire at.

DM says, "Crumbly sprints through the first room just after an arrow fires"

DM says, "As he enters the second room, one fires in that room, but it's aimed at Rosie and misses her"

Crumbly says, "OK, I search the south and east walls of the southern room (since we know wat's west of there). I guess I should roll."

DM says, "Yep"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "you can sprint around the sides of the room going 'eeeeeeee' as you search"

Crumbly rolls 1d20+26: 10+26 | 36

DM says, "There's a secret door in the south wall"

Rosie says, "There it is! OK, I'll try to figure out how to open it."

Rosie follows Crumbly out to be an arrow-magnet in the first room, then returns.

[tomb] Paulie asks, "How long was the corridor leading from the main corridor to the gargoyle room?"

DM asks, "Oh, were you going to search the east wall?"

Crumbly says, "Yeah"

Crumbly rolls 1d20+26: 4+26 | 30

[tomb] DM says, "20', then a door, then another 10' before the room"

DM says, "You don't notice anything in the east wall, but meanwhile another arrow fires"

DM says, "...at Rosie"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Hmm. So we've still got a door back there that we've ignored? Was it on the north wall?"

[tomb] DM says, "I mean the door to the gargoyle room"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Officially, each 5' area is a full-round action. I figure I'm searching five feet in the middle of each 10' wall."

[tomb] DM says, "OK, good"

[tomb] DM says, "Since I'm checking for arrows every round"

Crumbly says, "I'm staying in here as long as rosie's here. I guess I'll fiddle with the door do give her a better chance to deflect."

Crumbly says, "So, I try to slide it down."

DM says, "No luck"

DM says, "Another arrow fires"

DM says, "at Rosie"

Crumbly says, "OK, I try to slide it up."

DM says, "No dice"

DM says, "Another arrow fires at Rosie"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Does each attempt to psuh the door in some direction take a round?"

Rosie says (to Crumbly), "I can try to figure this out--no sense pushing your luck."

Crumbly says, "OK. I flee to the gargoyle room."

[tomb] DM says, "That how I'm calling it, yeah"

Clem says, "Back to the safety of the four-armed mutant gargoyle room."

DM says, "Crumbly successfully flees without further mishap"

Rosie tries pushing this door right and left.

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Is it moving at all?"

DM says, "Aha, when you push on the right it turns out that the whole thing pivots around a central axis"

[tomb] Eolo says, "this is like that maze in jewel of darkness"

DM says, "and you slide into another 10' by 10' room"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "arrows, in darkness"

[Crows-Nest] DM asks, "Remember when I said that this was like a terrible old-school IF game?"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "She had a voice like a four-armed mutant gargoyls and her body was like a grid map covered in 10x10 rooms."

DM says, "and dodge another arrow"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "ha"

Rosie goes around the room methodically pushing on the walls.

DM says, "I assume you have a light source, btw"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh, hmm, I have lamps."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Or I can borrow glowy chalk."

[tomb] Eolo says, "she's even written a song about them, "My Lamps""

DM says, "That doesn't seem to do anything"

Crumbly says, "I've got a backpack full of torches, if you need one."

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 14+1 | 15

[tomb] Clem says, "Sure, have some chalk."

Rosie says (to Crumbly), "Well, the door's open and once again, I can't find the next door."

DM says, "You don't find anything"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "ah, O(N^2) search algorithms"

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Ha ha ha ha"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Heh."

DM says, "Time passes..."

Crumbly says, "Sorry"

[Crows-Nest] (from Paulie) DM says, "...at Rosie"

Crumbly says, "OK, I'm going to go help Rosie search again"

Rosie once again shadows Crumbly.

DM says, "OK, you sprint into the third room"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says (to Paulie), "well, it's flying, anyway"

Paulie asks, "Did anyone bring some dice?"

DM says, "As you arrive, an arrow fires at Rosie"

Crumbly rolls 1d20+26: 11+26 | 37

Crumbly says, "(south wall)"

DM says, "Rolling your eyes, you point out the obvious secret door on the south wall to Rosie"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "ha ha"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "heeheehee"

DM says, "An arrow fires at Crumbly!!"

Rosie smacks her forehead.

DM says, "It hits for 3 damage"

Paulie says, "I could teach ye to play Haddock's Eyes."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "it's not just a maze, it's a maze where arrows shoot at you every turn"

Clem says, "Feh, hardly worth bothering to cure that one."

Rosie once again pushes on the door.

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "that's pretty old school all right"

Crumbly searches the east wall too

DM says, "Pushing still doesn't do anything"

Crumbly rolls 1d20+26: 11+26 | 37

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "not only that, but undo is disabled"

Rosie feels around for irregularities.

DM says (to Crumbly), "Nothing in the east wall"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "I was going to make that joke, then decided against it"

DM says, "while an arrow fires at Rosie"

Rosie then tries the caltrop/pulling method.

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "well, no going back now"

DM asks (of Crumbly), "Are you hanging around or running back?"

Crumbly says, "Running back"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "wait, inky disappeared but eolo is still here"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "really? whoops"

[Crows-Nest] (from Paulie) <Eolo> Eolo has disconnected from ifMUD.

DM says, "Aha, this one seems to be attached at the top and swings up towards you like a cat door"

Paulie says, "Ah, this must be where they keep the lions."

Crumbly says, "I wonder if there's a pattern to this"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 asks, "where's the rest of the party? three rooms back?"

Rosie looks into the next room.

DM says, "You duck into the next room, which is actually a little hallway"

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Yeah, we're all in the gargoyle room."

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Oh, we're all back in town."

DM says, "E/W, 40' feet long"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "we're chillin' like a dead gargoyle"

DM says, "You entered at the east end, at the north wall"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "Let's see Rosie dodge 4 arrows at a time!"

Rosie asks, "10' wide (n/s)?"

DM says, "Yep"

DM says, "Sorry, only 30' long"

Clem says, "The walls are coming in!"

Crumbly asks, "Any doors?"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says (to Clem), "haha"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "hee hee"

DM says, "Rosie doesn't see any doors"

Crumbly says, "Sounds like I'm needed again."

Rosie enters the hallway, checks to see if there are any more arrows.

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "shut down all the gargoyle mashers on the tomb level!"

DM says, "An arrow fires at Rosie!"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "yay"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Yay."

Rosie rolls her eyes.

Clem says, "Arrows in the hallway too?? Sheesh."

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 12+1 | 13

DM asks (of Rosie), "Where?"

Clem says, "This Acererak is like the least imaginative evil lich genius undead supervillain ever."

Rosie says, "The N wall of the NW corner."

Crumbly says, "Actually, this seems like a good time to explore the other 10x10 rooms a bit to eliminate more walls."

DM says, "Nothing there"

Rosie again pushes on walls, etc.

Crumbly says, "Because the two branches abut."

Crumbly s s

DM says, "Pushing the walls doesn't seem to do anything"

Rosie tries pulling everywhere, too.

Rosie says, "Crumbly, if you want to tell me where the next door is..."

DM says, "Hmm, the wall at the west end seems to jiggle a little when you pull in the middle"

Paulie says (to Crumbly), "Aye, that seems a fine idea."

Rosie exclaims, "Wait, I've found something!"

[tomb] Clem says, "Hmm, those runes didn't say anything about rooms full of sodding arrows."

Rosie tries pulling right and left on the west end wall/door.

DM says, "No luck"

Rosie tries up/down.

[tomb] Paulie asks, "There's nothing stopping Crumbly from searching the left branch while Rosie search the right branch, right?"

DM says, "Aha, it slides up"

[tomb] Clem says, "No 'cupid's barbs thy vulnerable parts shall prick, shouldst thou dare invade my rooms of, er, brick' or anything like that."

Rosie peers into the next room.

DM says, "Revealing an empty 10' by 10' room"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "hah"

Rosie says, "Jeez."

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Sorry guys"

Rosie continues the push/pull deal on the newly-revealed walls.

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "I'm powerless to make this any less annoying! It's in the module! Writ by the hand of Gygax!"

[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "Is that like Bigby's hand?"

[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "Only heavier?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I'm tempted to send Grog in to open that other actual door we found."

Rosie says, "With some focus on the south wall."

[tomb] Crumbly asks, "So, wait, she's managing to open doors without searching for them first?"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "Bigby's Irritating Hand"

[tomb] Clem says, "It seems like we can pretty much ignore the arrows."

[tomb] (from DM) Crumbly says, "Why am I even here?"

DM says, "Pushing and pulling on the south wall doesn't do anything"

[tomb] Clem says, "Not enough to put anyone below -10hp."

[tomb] Clem says, "Er, unless they also fire at unconscious people."

[tomb] Paulie exclaims (at Clem), "Only one way to check!"

Crumbly opens the opened door in the arrow-free branch

[tomb] DM says (to Crumbly), "If people perform the physical operation necessary to open it, I'm letting them open it"

[tomb] Rosie exclaims, "throw in the gargoyle!"

Rosie tries the other walls.

DM says (to Crumbly), "That's the door on the west wall - it opens into another 10' by 10' room with a door on the north wall"

[tomb] Paulie says (to Y'know,), "if that works... then we increase Crumbly's odds of not being shot at to 2/3 when he's in there with you."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Hm. Actually, that's not a bad notion: coming up with a way to distract the arrows."

DM says (to Rosie), "When you pull on the north wall, it opens toward you like double doors"

Paulie says (to Paulie), "Try dragging that corpse into that room over there. Careful you don't step in yeself, though."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "I wonder if they fire at invisible people."

[tomb] Clem says, "Okay, you grab the legs of the 10-foot-tall gargoyle that probably weighs about three tons, I'll grab the arms."

DM says, "Revealing a 20' long corridor to the north"

[tomb] Paulie says, "(Er, (to Grog))"

DM says, "(with no doors)"

Grog drags, shoves, and tosses as commanded.

[tomb] Ebezar says, "I can carry that ear Grog cut off"

[tomb] Clem says, "Ha ha."

Crumbly says, "Hey, that cuts off the room north of me."

[tomb] Eolo says, "corpse onna stick"

Rosie, starting on the west wall, pulls and pushes.

[tomb] Eolo says, "wow, 20' corridor"

DM says, "The gargoyle corpse doesn't seem to set off the arrow trap"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Yeah, I have that coming up to the corner of the gargoyle room, which is a bit odd."

DM says, "Pulling and pushing on the west wall doesn't do anything"

Crumbly says, "So the door north of me leads to some kind of final room."

[tomb] Paulie says (to Clem), "You can drag several times your maximum load, so I'm guessing that even if it's half a ton, he can drag it. Although I didn't run the numbers."

Crumbly says, "I listen at the door."

Crumbly says, "taking ten for 26."

[tomb] Clem says, "Well, we have sharp swords, if need be we can carry it in stages."

[tomb] Clem says, "Or 'modules' or even 'gobbets' if you prefer."

Rosie tries the north wall.

DM says (to Crumbly), "Silence"

[tomb] josh_g says, "hee hee eww"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Was Rosie entering the corridor from the south end?"

DM says (to Rosie), "Pulling and pushing on the west wall doesn't do anything"

[tomb] DM says, "Yes"

Crumbly opens the door he just listened at

[tomb] Rosie asks (of DM), "The north too?"

DM says (to Crumbly), "It leads to an empty 10' by 10' room"

[tomb] DM says, "Sorry, I meant to replace west with north after I cut and pasted"

DM says, "With a door on the north wall"

[tomb] Eolo says, "hee hee"

Crumbly searches the west wall of that empty 10x10 room

Crumbly says, "taking ten for 36"

DM says (to Crumbly), "Nothing there"

[tomb] Eolo says, "good thing all you guys optimized your characters for combat this time"

Rosie (yelling) "Hey, if you guys want to smash down the west wall in Crumbly's room, you'll end up where I am."

Crumbly says, "So, no shortcut past the arrows."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Also, has anyone tried checking the floors?"

Rosie tries the floor and the ceiling in this last room.

[tomb] Crumbly says, "The room I'm in has one."

DM says (to Rosie), "Nothing special"

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Hmm, what else could I try besides pulling and pushing?"

Paulie says, "I thought mutant four-armed gargoyles were supposed to guard priceless treasures."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Turning?"

[tomb] Eolo says, "prodding"

Crumbly asks, "Anyone prepared Knock?"

Paulie says, "I've got it on a scroll."

Rosie looks high and low for anything golden on the walls.

Paulie says, "Just one, though."

DM says (to Rosie), "Nope"

Rosie tries pushing right and left on the walls.

Crumbly says, "Proposal: leave this behind and go back to the archway at the end of the rune hall."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "TOMB OF CORRIDORS"

[tomb] Paulie says (to Crumbly), "Did you go north into your final room, yet? I'm getting confused."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Yeah"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "And I searched it for a passage to Rosie's last hallway"

DM says, "Aha, the northernmost part of the west wall slid to the left"

DM says, "Revealing a 10' by 10' room"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 listens to the wav again to regain the atmosphere

DM says, "The arrows are still going, by the way"

Clem says, "arrows schmarrows"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "This is sort of like Princess Bride where they figure out how to avoid the horrors of the fire swamp."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Hrm. OK. It looked like he just mentioned a 'door on the north wall' to you."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Here's this area as I have it:"

[Crows-Nest] (from josh_g) DM says, "Clem gets an arrow in the eye! 45hp!"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Rosie calmly plucks arrows out of the air as she searches."

[tomb] Rosie | GGGHHH
[tomb] Rosie | GG
[tomb] Rosie | GGS
[tomb] Rosie | SCCS
[tomb] Rosie | SCCS
[tomb] Rosie | SSSS

[tomb] Paulie says, "But I guess I'm confused."

[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "There is"

[tomb] Clem says, "I tried to read that as a sound effect."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Rosie's death rattle"

[tomb] Rosie says, "With the C's being the closets, and the S's being the secret rooms, and the G's being the gargoyle room."

[tomb] Eolo says, "that's the noise it makes trying to move the gargoyle"

[tomb] Paulie asks (of DM), "So there is one room of Crumbly's he hasn't opened yet?"

[tomb] DM says (to Rosie), "Yeah, and you just found an S to the west of the NW-most S"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "if we stick all of the arrows in the gargoyle corpse, it'll be easier to take them back to sell without cutting ourselves"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "No, I've opened all of mine."

[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "Yes"

[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Wait, what?"

[tomb] DM says, "There is a door on the north wall of the NW-most C"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "you guys should drag the gargoyle back to town just to freak everyone out"

Rosie enters the new room.

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, ""you know that hill right over there? guess what's inside?""

DM says, "More arrows, etc."

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "'Not this anymore'"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "But the other side of such a door would be the gargoyle room."

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "'this was my dad. he got hit by a baleful polymorph spell'"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Unless it's Magic."

[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "ha ha"

[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "Hey, anybody want to buy 8000 arrows?"

[tomb] Eolo asks, "by the map this extends past the gargoyle room, doesn't it?"

Rosie, starting with the south wall, pulls, pushes, pushes right, pushes left, pushes up, and pushes down in the obvious spots.

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "They're magic! And possibly poisoned!"

[tomb] Crumbly recaps, sees that DM did in fact mention the door on the north wall

[tomb] Eolo says, "oh, wait"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "I missed that the first time."

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "we'll throw the gargoyle in free"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "well, more 'shove' than 'throw'"

DM says, "Nothing on the south wall"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "We killed this gargoyle with arrows, and you could do the same."

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "We also used some big swords and axes and stuff but mainly it was arrows."

[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "Yay"

DM says, "Nothing happens with the west wall either"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo exclaims, "Gargoyle brand slightly-used arrows: we'll rend the competition's prices!"

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Please ignore the lightning and flaming scorch marks and the acid etching thanks."

DM says, "Nor the north wall"

Crumbly says, "OK, guys, there's this non-secret door that I didn't notice somehow. Probably because it doesn't make sense that it's there."

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "if this were deus ex we would have lured it into the arrow room and then hidden"

Crumbly searches north door, taking 10: 36

Rosie says (to Crumbly), "Could be a trap, like the entrances."

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Man, that would totally work, except its damage reduction would make it immune to arrows."

DM says (to Crumbly), "There's nothing special about it"

Crumbly opens it

[tomb] Paulie says, "I suppose a door could be secret only on one side."

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "I guess eventually it would suffocate."

DM says, "The door opens, revealing a blank wall"

Rosie searches the floor/ceiling.

[tomb] Paulie says, "Ha."

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "eventually all the arrows sticking in its hide would weigh it down too much to move"

Crumbly says, "Well, at least that makes sense"

DM says (to Rosie), "Roll for search"

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 16+1 | 17

DM says, "You see nothing special about the floor"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "DR 10/arrows keep you from reaching it"

Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for search: 13+1 | 14

DM says, "nor the ceiling"

Crumbly says, "OK, time for me to go help Rosie again, I think"

Rosie checks for irregularities.

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "I'm going to start cursing, 'by gygax's unfortunate love of arrow traps!'"

[tomb] Clem says, "You know, 10 out of 10 for style in deflecting all these arrows, but I'm afraid I can only give you a 3 for sharp eyesight."

Crumbly says, "It'll take me two rounds just to get there."

Paulie starts playing with the other walls in the gargoyle room, the way Rosie is in her corridor. Starting at the SW corner and working his way around.

Rosie returns to cover for Crumbly.

DM asks, "OK, are you guys going to run through together?"

Rosie says, "Yeah."

Crumbly says, "yes"

DM says, "Running through it is fast enough that only a couple of arrows fire and none of them come particularly close"

DM says, "But when you arrive at the end you'll be susceptible again"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "You know, Raiders would have been a lot cooler if Indy had to run back and forth through that first trap-filled dungeon ten or fifteen times."

[tomb] DM says (to Rosie), "btw, if you care, that GHHH should be one row down"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh, thanks."

Crumbly says, "OK. I will search, in order: north west south floor ceiling, stopping as soon as I find something."

[Crows-Nest] Clem says 'you know' a few more times.

Crumbly rolls 1d20+26: 12+26 | 38

Crumbly rolls 1d20+26: 2+26 | 28

DM says, "You find nothing in the north wall"

DM says, "and an arrow fires at Rosie"

DM says, "You find something in the west wall!"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo exclaims, "!!"

DM says, "and an arrow fires at Rosie"

DM says, "Man, this coin must be weighted"

Rosie says, "OK, thanks."

DM says, "There are seven little studs in the middle of the wall"

Crumbly says, "Ooh."

[tomb] Clem says, "Once we clear out all the monsters, we should hire this place out as a monk training school."

Rosie asks, "In what pattern?"

DM says, "In a horizontal row"

[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "yay"

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Halflings, I assume."

DM says, "An arrow fires at Rosie"

Crumbly says, "I bet you have to push them all in the direction of the doors you've passed through already or something."

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "Buff halflings."

Crumbly says, "Except there are only six secret doors."

[Crows-Nest] Clem asks, "The seven little studs?"

Rosie says, "You're forgetting the one out of the gargoyle room."

Paulie says, "Not secret."

DM says, "An arrow fires at Rosie"

Rosie says, "Go ahead and get out of here; I'll mess with the studs."

Crumbly asks, "I try wiggling a stud. Does it move?"

Rosie says, "If you know what I mean."

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "mutant four-armed snow white and the seven studs"

DM asks (of Crumbly), "Which one?"

Crumbly says, "The leftmost."

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "wiggling... a stud..."

DM says, "It doesn't move from side to side"

DM says, "An arrow fires at Rosie"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Man, that's some coin."

[tomb] DM says, "This random number generator must be broken"

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Are you actually flipping a coin?"

[tomb] DM says, "No, I'm 'rolling a d2'"

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Not '1d2'?"

[tomb] DM says, "Not on the mud"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Ah."

[tomb] Clem asks, "Is this like rand()%2?"

[tomb] Rosie says, "You got Crumbly that one time."

[tomb] Rosie says, "But yeah, this seems suspicious."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Not that I'm complaining, mind you."

[tomb] nothings says (to Clem), "that would alternate"

[tomb] Clem says, "I have completely faith that this is perfectly random and fine."

[tomb] Eolo says (to nothings), "heh"

Rosie asks (of Crumbly), "Before you go, can you check for traps?"

[tomb] Ebezar says (to Rosie), "SHHH! ixnay on the uggestionsay"

Crumbly checks for traps

[tomb] Rosie says, "'Wait! I see the problem!'"

Crumbly rolls 1d20+26: 8+26 | 34

[tomb] DM says, "OK, the studs are definitely trickier than you might have thought"

[tomb] (from Clem) DM says, "Okay, 27 arrows that have been hovering around unnoticed now fire at Crumbly."

DM says, "OK, the studs are definitely trickier than you might have thought"

Crumbly asks, "Trickier? As in, trapped?"

DM says, "because Crumbly can tell that doing the wrong thing will set off a trap"

DM says, "An arrow fires... at Rosie"

Crumbly says, "I wonder if I can disable the trap without disabling the studs."

[tomb] Clem says, "I could cast Divination to figure out the studs, maybe."

[tomb] Eolo asks, "fiddling with random buttons in the tomb of horrors sets off a trap? who could have guessed?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Or maybe Augury would work."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Can you figure out what kind of trap it is?"

[tomb] nothings says (to Eolo), "haha"

[tomb] Paulie says, "It could be, like, an arrow that shoots out at Rosie."

Rosie says, "Hmm, my guess is that the 'look low and high for gold' is the trick here."

[tomb] Clem says, "It could be d20d20 arrows."

DM says, "An arrow first at Crumbly"

[tomb] Clem says, "Let me check if my Augury scroll will help here."

DM says, "It misses!"

Crumbly says, "cool"

DM says, "Uh, fires"

Ebezar asks, "did someone say 'fire'?"

[tomb] Eolo says, "augury: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/augury.htm"

Ebezar prepares his empowered fireball

[tomb] Clem says, "Hmm, yeah, just a single yes-or-no answer to 'is this a good idea?'"

[Crows-Nest] josh_g says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Clem says, "It would have to be Divination."

[Crows-Nest] nothings asks, "Never shout 'fire' in a crowded... tomb... of horrors?"

Clem hollers, "Hey, how are you doing with those studs? Want to see if G'taar can enlighten us?"

Crumbly asks, "I'm going to attempt to disable the trap. I may wind up disabling the studs' other function in the process. Anyone object?"

[tomb] Rosie asks, "What are the odds?"

[tomb] Clem says, "79%, looks like."

[tomb] Clem says, "For success."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "For divination?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Yeah."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "OK, what are the odds for disabling?"

DM says, "An arrow fires at Rosie"

[tomb] Clem asks, "Who knows?"

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Crumbly, no?"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "disable away"

[tomb] Clem says, "Yeah, go for it."

[tomb] DM says, "You could use Divination to find out the odds for disabling"

Paulie says, "I suppose if you break the studs, we can always bash the wall in and try to figure out where the levers connect to later."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Hee"

[tomb] Clem says, "I was actually thinking that Augury could do that but came to my senses."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Depends on how complex it is. I'd have to roll a 2 or better for a normal trp."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "TRP?"

[tomb] Alex says (to Paulie), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that TRP is That's Rather Personal."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "What are the odds that if you successfully disable it, it will also break it?"

[tomb] Rosie says, "(if you know)"

[tomb] Eolo says, "divination is supposed to give the answer as a cryptic riddle, so I assume its answer for the odds would be like "p(success) = sum (i: 1..10) p(notification) * log sin (trap angle)""

[tomb] Crumbly says, "I dunno. Up to the DM."

DM says, "An arrow fires at Rosie"

Clem says (to Crumbly), "Sure, try to disable the trap."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "If I roll 12 or better, I can undo whatever I did."

[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh, cool."

[tomb] Rosie says, "OK, go for it."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, definitely, then."

[tomb] Clem says, "Yeah, you'll definitely roll 12 or better."

Rosie says, "Sure."

Crumbly says, "OK. I am gong to try to disable the trap before we do anything else."

[tomb] Clem says, "On a d20."

[tomb] Ebezar says (to Eolo), "GEEK"

Rosie says, "Oh, and if it helps, I think the right way to open it is to push the leftmost first, then the rightmost."

Crumbly says, "This is a secret roll that the DM has to make."

Rosie says, "from the 'look low and high' part of the collar runes."

DM says (to Crumbly), "Oh ah"

Rosie asks, "Wait, the runes were magical, right?"

[tomb] Clem says (to Rosie), "Hmm, that seems like a reach."

Rosie asks, "Maybe if we read it aloud in this room?"

DM says (to Crumbly), "OK, you may have done something"

Crumbly says, "OK."

DM says, "An arrow fires at Crumbly"

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Any other ideas?"

DM says, "and hits"

DM says, "for 1"

[tomb] nothings says, "'high' would heavenly, and 'low' would be hellish, and 'hellish' is 'sinister', and 'sinister' is left, so clearly left=low, right=high"

Rosie goes back with Crumbly to get the runes so she can read it in this room.

Clem says, "Ow, that's got to hurt."

Clem says, "Your pinky."

DM says, "Good thing he wasn't a first-level magic-user"

Ebezar exclaims, "hey!"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Hee hee"

Crumbly says, "My best guess is that it has to do with the doors we passed to get here. Like, if we pushed a door upward, we pusht he corresponding stud upawrd."

DM says, "The studs don't move back and forth"

[tomb] Paulie says, "It occurs to me that we do have another way to improve Crumbly's odds."

[tomb] Paulie says, "We could send in Canary."

Rosie asks, "Do they look like they push in?"

DM says, "Yes"

Crumbly says, "H."

Clem asks, "7 studs, right?"

[tomb] Eolo asks, "canary?"

[tomb] Alex says (to Eolo), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that a canary is what ifMUD really, REALLY needs."

DM says, "Yes"

[tomb] DM says (to Eolo), "The animals from their bags of tricks"

Clem says, "They didn't teach me mathematics at cleric school, but it seems like that is a lot of possible combinations."

[tomb] Paulie says (to Eolo), "Our friends from the Bag o' Tricks."

[tomb] Eolo says, "oh yeah"

[tomb] Eolo says, "I guess that might be safer"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Let's say we've regrouped in the gargoyle room to try to puzzle stuff out."

Crumbly says, "Apart from doors, there are seven rooms."

DM says, "OK, you both run back into the gargoyle room"

Crumbly says, "Two of which are long, the rest are 10x10"

Paulie says, "Excellent point."

Clem asks, "You didn't notice any numbers or anything in the rooms?"

Crumbly says, "nope"

Paulie says, "I agree with Crumbly."

Rosie, in the meantime, gets the paper from the collar, and tries reading it aloud in the room.

Paulie asks, "So, the fourth and sixth studs?"

DM asks (of Rosie), "Which room?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Hang on, Divination takes ten minutes to cast."

[tomb] Rosie says, "The room with the studs."

DM says, "Nothing happens"

[tomb] Clem says, "I hope I don't have to stay inside the arrow room while casting it."

Rosie returns to the gargoyle room.

[tomb] Crumbly says, "This is reminding me of Wizrdry 4."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 asks, "what paper from what collar?"

[tomb] Eolo says (to Clem), "it doesn't have any particular range"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "the gargoyle collar turned out to have a secret compartment"

[Crows-Nest] DM | http://www.henchmonkey.org/forum/discussion/43/

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "The gargoyle's collar had a secret compartment."

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "from the gargoyle collar"

Clem says (to Paulie), "Hmm, good thought."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "huh"

Clem says, "The trap is probably disabled now anyway."

Ebezar exclaims, "Good luck, Rosie!"

Rosie asks, "Four fist, then six?"

Clem asks (of Rosie), "Don't you have boots of levitation?"

Paulie says, "Or together, possibly."

[Crows-Nest] (from Eolo) Ebezar returns to his calculation of what share each of the other people should get of Rosie's loot

Rosie says, "Yes."

Clem says, "You should probably activate them in case of pits."

Paulie asks, "Should Crumbly press them, as he's best at dodging?"

Rosie says, "Good thought."

Rosie says, "I have a pretty good dodge myself."

Paulie nods.

Rosie says, "And there's all the arrows."

Crumbly says, "Maybe there was a pattern in the pits in the rune hall. They varied from side to side."

Clem says, "Ooooh."

Paulie says, "But some where in the middle of the path."

Rosie says, "There's also the option of pushing all the size-1 room buttons, then the size-2 room button, then the size-3 room button."

Crumbly says, "But I wasn't mapping yet when we explored there, so I don't know."

DM says (to Crumbly), "West, west, east, middle, east, west"

Paulie says, "That's three directions, and the studs only go in or not in, I believe."

Ebezar says, "I could also displace you if needed, but it is of very short duration."

Crumbly says, "We could always explore elsewhere until we find more clues."

Rosie says, "I bet we have all the clues."

Clem asks, "Where else is there?"

Paulie says, "I favor the four and six, still."

Clem says, "Just the two dangerous-looking hallways."

Rosie says, "Eh, I'll go push buttons for a while."

Rosie exclaims, "Wish me luck!"

Clem says, "Yay!"

Paulie says (to Clem), "And the mouth of the demon at the end of the hall."

Clem asks (of Paulie), "I was counting that as one. What's the other?"

Clem says, "Er, doorways, not hallways."

Paulie asks, "Didn't the path fork to a doorway at either side?"

Rosie dashes down the hallway, pushes button four, then six.

DM says, "Button 4 goes in and stays in"

DM says, "Button 6 goes in and stays in"

Clem says, "Hmm."

[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "One fork went left to the archway"

Rosie pushes the rest of the buttons from lower to higher.

[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh, OK."

[tomb] DM says, "The other fork went straight ahead to the demon"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Were they both red-tiled?"

[tomb] DM says, "Or devil, I guess"

[tomb] DM says, "Yes"

DM asks (of Rosie), "Left to right, you mean?"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "When I have the time, I'm going to look at last session's trnscript and complete my map."

Rosie says, "Correct"

DM says, "Button 1 goes in and stays in"

DM says, "Button 2 goes in and stays in"

DM says, "Button 3 goes in and stays in"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Then scan and upload it?"

DM says, "Button 5 goes in and stays in"

Rosie says, "C'mon, no whammies."

DM says, "Button 7 goes in and stays in, and the door opens"

Clem says, "!"

Crumbly says, "Huh."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "bnuh"

Rosie exclaims, "Sweet!"

DM says, "Revealing a long 20'-wide corridor"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "hooray"

(From Eolo) DM says "Completely full of arrows"

Rosie peers into the corridor.

[tomb] Clem asks, "Whose idea was the 4 and 6? Paulie's?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Crumbly's."

[tomb] Clem says, "Or maybe you just have to press all the buttons in any order."

DM | http://hamesucken.com/tomb/10.jpg

DM says, "The floor of this long, wide hall is inlaid with tiles, and the walls and ceiling are painted with figures of animals and strange signs and glyphs. Humans and humanlike creatures hold painted spheres, each a different color from the next."

[tomb] Paulie says (to Clem), "Or maybe the wrong order still opens the door but also activates the trap."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Yeah, maybe any order would ahve done it but the wron order would have triggered the trap if I hadn't disabled it."

[tomb] Clem says, "Yeah."

Ebezar exclaims, "Well done!"

DM says, "It's a N-S corridor, and you entered 30' from the north end"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "strange mythic creatures playing basketball"

[tomb] Clem says, "Anyway, you got us through."

DM says, "It goes off to the south farther than you can see"

Clem asks, "So, er, are we all going to dash through the arrows after her?"

[Crows-Nest] nothings asks, "a five-headed dragon is 'humanlike'?"

Rosie enters the room to see if any more arrows fire at him in here.

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "That's the umpire."

[Crows-Nest] DM says (to nothing), "I guess it wasn't an exhaustive list"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "it may look inhuman, but inside it is the heart of a person"

DM says, "omg the room is so arrow-free"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "as well as the rest of the person's organs"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "the basketball umpire is lost in myth"

Rosie exclaims, "Woo, no more arrows!"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "this illustration is awesome"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "I see someone won an oscar"

Rosie dashes back to help cover for people as they run through.

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "I think these runes are all gygax's tattoos"

DM says, "Hmm, entering the corridor and turning around, the door has disappeared"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Hee hee hee."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "ha ha"

DM says, "Sorry about the dangling modifier"

[Crows-Nest] DM says (to Ebezar), "Yay"

Paulie asks, "Rosie, is it safe?"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "the five-headed dragon probably says "MOM" in a heart"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "Dire Mom"

DM says, "The door that you came through, that is"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "I [HEART] BIGBY"

DM says, "There's just one of these spheres where you entered"

Rosie says, "Er."

Rosie examines the sphere

DM says, "It's a silver sphere held by a four-armed gargoyle"

Crumbly says, "Oho."

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "ha ha ha"

[tomb] Paulie says, "So I assume this is the 'second great hall'."

[tomb] Eolo asks, "wait, is everyone in the room or just Rosie?"

[tomb] DM says, "Just Rosie, I think"

Rosie calls into the sphere, "CAN YOU HEAR ME?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "And the gargoyle was the 'tormentor'."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "just rosie"

[tomb] Clem says, "Okay, if that sphere is a magic teleporter to the gargoyle room, I'd like to suggest that we don't go near the sphere with the four-headed dragon."

[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha"

DM says, "You guys can hear her faintly"

Clem asks, "WHERE ARE YOU?"

DM says, "Like, her voice seems to be coming from where it should be"

Clem says, "OH FORGET IT LET'S JUST ASSUME WE ALL HEARD THE DM"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "'I may have got four arms, but I'm not deaf'"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Shall we all run through?"

[tomb] Clem says, "Sure."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "I'm for it."

Rosie says, "PUSH FOUR THEN SIX THEN THE OTHER BUTTONS IN ORDER. IF THE DOOR IS STILL CLOSED."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "that way we can all be trapped"

Clem says, "GOT IT"

[tomb] Clem says, "I can teleport half of us out."

Paulie exclaims, "Marching order, go!"

[tomb] Clem says, "Then, er, return for the rest of you tomorrow."

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Should take us two rounds to get there"

DM says, "OK, a couple of arrows fire at people as you run along"

DM says, "One at Paulie"

Rosie tries dropping a pebble onto the sphere.

DM says (to Rosie), "It's actually just flat, painted on the wall"

Rosie tosses a pebble at it, then.

DM says, "It hits Paulie for 6"

[tomb] Paulie says, "I wonder if my +1 AC versus traps will-- nope."

Clem says, "I thought these were arrows, not cricket balls."

[tomb] DM says, "Thanks for mentioning it, though"

DM says, "One fires at Ebezar"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 wav

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Yay."

Paulie exclaims, "Ow!"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "It seems like it's not a trap. I still favor the invisible archer idea."

[tomb] DM asks, "How much are the mage armor and barkskin?"

[tomb] DM asks, "Barkskin is +4?"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "+4 and +4"

[tomb] Clem says, "Bark is +4"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Both are +4, yeah."

[tomb] DM says, "and so is mage armor, OK"

DM says, "It hits"

DM says, "For 1"

DM says, "Man, Ebezar has more hit points than anyone"

Ebezar says, "curse my slow body"

DM says, "As you arrive at the last room, you see that the door is open and that Rosie is looking curiously at thin air"

[tomb] Ebezar says (to DM), "hey, I'm down to 78 now"

DM says, "Like, where the door is"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "uh-oh, door hypnosis"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "I've seen this sort of thing before, it's not a pretty sight"

DM says (to Rosie), "The pebble went straight through"

Crumbly says, "I'm going to join Rosie on the other side. The rest of you can, like, poke sticks through and see if you can pull them back if you want."

Rosie says, "I don't see the door, just... hmm."

Rosie touches the sphere.

[tomb] Paulie says, "Sticks nothing, I'm just heading through."

DM says (to Rosie), "Aha, it was just an illusion"

DM says, "Crumbly and Paulie go through"

[tomb] Paulie says, "ALso, I'm curious whose body part was right behind that sphere at that point."

DM says, "One more arrow for the people weren't fast enough to say they were going through"

DM says, "Ha, an arrow fires at Finn"

DM says, "and misses"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar exclaims, "I was changing a diaper!"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "(mine, after that arrow scared me)"

Clem dives through, and Finn too.

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Ha ha"

Clem says, "Also Kong or whatever he's called now."

DM says, "OK, you're all through"

Clem asks, "Okay, who's all injured?"

Clem says, "Might as well use up this wand."

Paulie says, "I be, a bit."

Clem rolls 1d8+1: 3+1 | 4

Clem says, "voomf!"

Clem asks, "That it?"

Crumbly says, "I'm injured"

DM says, "Crumbly's down to 36 from 42"

Clem rolls 1d8+1: 2+1 | 3

Clem rolls 1d8+1: 1+1 | 2

Clem says, "Aw man."

[tomb] Paulie says, "I'm now at 46 out of 48."

Crumbly asks, "Were those both on me?"

Clem says, "Okay, these charges don't cost nothing, you can just deal with the last lousy hp yourself."

Clem says, "Yes."

DM says, "OK, I have Crumbly at 41/42, Paulie 46/48, Ebezar 78/79"

[tomb] Eolo says, "hee hee"

[tomb] Paulie says, "But being short one or two HP seems OK."

DM says, "Suddenly Paulie is crushed for 46 hp of damage"

DM asks, "You're not laughing. Why is no one laughing?"

Clem says, "Only 1.wav is laughing!"

Crumbly says, "We didnt' think you were joking."

DM says, "OK, anyway, there are a ton of these spheres on either side of the corridor"

Crumbly says, "So, okay. Animals with spheres."

Ebezar says, "This is most curious."

DM says, "I can start listing them if you like"

Crumbly says, "I bet each one is a Horror somewhere in the Tomb."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "When you said this entrance was 30' from the N end, does that mean there's 20' of corridor to the north of the door?"

Paulie asks, "Any mirrors?"

[tomb] DM says, "Yep"

Clem says, "Hmm, shame I didn't memorise True Seeing after all."

DM says, "Are any of the spheres mirrors, you mean? No"

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Where does that place the end of this corridor relative to the end of the one we started at?"

[tomb] DM says, "Maybe 40' feet short of the hillside"

Clem says (to DM), "Please list the monsters, by the way."

DM says, "Let me start with the ones on the west wall, from north to south"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Yeah, this sounds like a big hinty place."

DM says, "A gold sphere held above the head by a naga"

Paulie asks, "Gold?"

DM says, "An orange sphere held waist high by a mummy"

DM says, "A purple sphere held at the feet by a minotaur"

DM says, "A bronze sphere held waist high by a nymph"

[tomb] Eolo says, "don't take my sphere, my achy-breaky sphere"

DM says, "A gray sphere held at shoulder height by an owlbear"

[tomb] Rosie | GG
[tomb] Rosie | HH GGGHHH
[tomb] Rosie | HH GGS
[tomb] Rosie | HHSSCCS
[tomb] Rosie | HH SCCS
[tomb] Rosie | HH SSSS
[tomb] Rosie | HH
[tomb] Rosie | ..

DM says, "and so on further south"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "That's what I have too."

DM says, "On your (east) side, from north to south:"

DM says, "A pale blue sphere held at shoulder height by a werewolf"

DM says, "The silver sphere you came through"

DM says, "A green sphere held high by a half-orc (this is where the picture starts)"

DM says, "A yellow sphere held at shoulder height by a bird-headed creature"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "I'm putting this in the clues thread as well"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 asks, "what's a naga?"

[tomb] Paulie says, "Good though."

DM says, "A pink sphere held high by a yuan-ti"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "body of a snake, head of a person"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "some are good and some are evil"

DM says, "A black sphere held at the feet of a hydra"

[Crows-Nest] Paulie asks, "Nothing much, what's a naga with you?"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "all cast spells"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Colors mentioned in the clues include: red, green, gold, and 'night's good color'."

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Ha."

DM says, "and so on further south"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "yuan-tis are also snake-human hybrids"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "although their degree of humanoid-ness varies considerably"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "some are mostly humanoid and some are like nagas"

Paulie asks, "Is there only one cold one we can see from here?"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "I'm not sure how a snake with a human head can do much good at all"

DM asks, "You mean gold?"

Paulie says, "Er, yes."

DM says, "Yeah, just the one"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "well, it can constrict and bite, I guess"

Grog stands over by the green sphere.

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "it can use its human mouth to complain about not having opposable thumbs"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "the 'avoid the green' clue makes me not want to walk through that one"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "nooo not the green sphere grog"

[Crows-Nest] Paulie says, "And can presumably cast spells without somatic components."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "maybe that clue was about m&ms"

DM says (to Grog), "You are much more handsome than this ugly half-orc"

Crumbly says, "Night's good color is for those of great valor. So I want to avoid black as well."

Grog doesn't touch anything until he's told to, though.

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "it looks like some nagas sting (so I guess they have stingers), some bite, some spit poison, and they all cast spells"

DM says (to Crumbly), "Ha ha"

Paulie exclaims (at Crumbly), "I told ye, red's the good color for night!"

[Crows-Nest] DM says, "Nagas are hunted for their valuable naga hide"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "hee hee"

[Crows-Nest] DM asks, "Get it? Naugahyde? Ha ha?"

[Crows-Nest] Alex says (to DM), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that ha ha is a laugh."

[Crows-Nest] Rosie says, "You can sell naga hides in Might and Magic VII."

Clem asks, "Okay, so, what next?"

[Crows-Nest] nothings says, "heh"

Crumbly says, "In that case, the wise will not need sacrifice aught but a loop of magical metal"

Paulie says, "But seeing as there be no red, I would go with gold."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says (to Alex), "ha ha"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "KoL has a place to get nauga hides, also"

[Crows-Nest] Alex exclaims (at Rob_2), "Awwwk! You're a great crowd! I'll be here all night -- try the tarte au chocolat aux cork nuts!"

Paulie says, "Unless we want to see what's down the hall first."

Crumbly says, "Gold is the one color that doesn't seem bad from the clues."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "oh sure, like you can trust those runes"

Rosie asks, "Do we want to fight a naga?"

Ebezar says, "Let us go through gold, then."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "let finn go through and see what he finds"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "That wasn't the runes, that was the... hmm, the four-armed gargoyle bracelet thing."

Crumbly says, "Might as well, I guess. I'll walk south, within 5 feet of the east wall so I get to automatically detect secret doors at +21."

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "oh, well then"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo asks, "what if it's a schwarzenaga?"

[Crows-Nest] Rosie says (to Eolo), "In that case, I'll be back."

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "hee hee"

DM says (to Crumbly), "If you walk further south I can tell you what the other spheres are like"

Crumbly says, "Please do."

[tomb] Rosie asks (of GM), "Are all the pictures in subsequent 10' segments?"

[tomb] DM says, "Uh, not exactly, I think"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Seems like they're spaced farther than that."

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Every other 10' segment?"

[tomb] DM says, "Less far apart than that"

DM says, "OK, after the hydra with the black sphere"

DM says, "A pale violet sphere held at the shoulder by a kuo-toa"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "mcp would be so pleased"

Clem says, "You're just making these up now."

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "(kuo-toas are frog-men)"

DM says, "A red sphere held waist-high by a skeleton"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "aha"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says (to Eolo), "ha ha ha"

Crumbly asks, "You've never heard of the Shrine of the Kuo-Toa?"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "and as you recall they worship Blipdoolpoolp"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "onomatopoeic names"

DM says, "a buff sphere held at the feet by a white-bearded human wizard"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Every 15'? ;-)"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "wa ha ha"

[Crows-Nest] Ebezar says, "VOID: kuo-toa"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "buff? this one's for Paulie"

Paulie asks, "Were they trigonometrists?"

[tomb] Crumbly says, "Kuo-toa are fish-men from the Underdark."

DM says, "An indigo sphere held high above the head of a bat-winged woman"

DM says, "And at the south end of the hallway you see this"

DM | http://hamesucken.com/tomb/5.jpg

[tomb] Clem says, "Now I'm imagining a wizard called Gandalf the Buff."

DM says, "(again)"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 asks, "what color is buff?"

Clem says, "Oho."

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "Pale beige."

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "searching for that brought me to http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.frp.dnd/msg/1ec2814a6129c40d?hl=en&"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo asks, "kind of off-white, isn't it?"

Crumbly says, "Yeah, the archway and the second hall."

[Crows-Nest] Eolo | yellowish brown: a medium to dark tan color

DM says, "This time the colors of the stones are olive on the lower left, russet at the top, citron on the lower right"

DM says, "(I did not make this up)"

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "also | a soft thick undyed leather from the skins of e.g. buffalo or oxen"

Crumbly says, "I was kind of expecting this actually."

[tomb] Ebezar says, "so that works: arch or tormentor bring you to this hall"

[Crows-Nest] Clem says, "No way."

nothings goes home.

[tomb] Clem says, "If the arch was anything like the tormentor I'm glad we didn't go that way."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Indeed. Wonder if there are any clues between the archways."

Rosie asks, "How long is the corridor in toto?"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "so that works: arch or tormentor bring you to this hall"

[Crows-Nest] Rob_2 says, "huh. never heard of a color buff before"

[tomb] Ebezar says, "grf, sorry. weird burst lag"

Crumbly says, "So if the misty archways are joined, we didn't need to fight the Tormentor to get here."

Crumbly says, "Lesson: Don't fight monsters. It's not worth it."

[tomb] Paulie asks, "Are we checking the other side of the hall too?"

Crumbly says, "We should probably check to see if the archways are in fact joined."

Paulie says (to Crumbly), "But fighting the gargoyle got us the clue about gold."

[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, I'm getting weird lag as well."

[Crows-Nest] Eolo says, "which presumably explains it"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Burst-lag for me, too."

Ebezar has disconnected.

Ebezar husbands his hitpoints carefully.

Paulie looks at the floor, in case there are more runes.

Crumbly pulls the olive and the citron off the archway and sits down to have lunch

[tomb] Sargent says, "(I am way lagged)"

[tomb] DM says, "Huge huge lag"

[tomb] DM says, "test"

[tomb] Rosie asks, "Hmm, are we back?"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Nope."

[tomb] DM asks, "Is everyone here?"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Ah, a bit more responsive."

Ebezar has arrived.

[tomb] Ebezar says, "I am back on but lagged"

[tomb] Rosie says, "Weird."

[tomb] Rosie says, "...and lagged again."

[tomb] Rosie says, "good golly."

Crumbly says, "Hello"

[tomb] Paulie asks (of DM), "So what creatures are opposite the ones you just listed, on the west wall?"

[tomb] Rosie says, "AWAITING ORDERS STOP. SUGGEST GO THROUGH NAGA-WITH-GOLD-SPHERE AREA STOP."

Eolo has disconnected.

Eolo goes home.

Crumbly says, "Given that the buff sphere was specifically at the human's feet, I wonder if the 'high or low' part of that clue is also relevant."

Crumbly says, "In fact, I'm going to take that clues advice nd search it. Taking ten for 36."

nothings has arrived.

Crumbly says, "Search the buff sphere, that is."

Clem
