[ussura] GM says, "Aha! They are on their way; coming from dinner with the in-laws."

[ussura] inky says, "they possibly tried to call me, but I wasn't at home"

[ussura] GM asks, "You two want to wait for another 15-20 minutes or so, or go ahead and do something smallish during that time?"

[ussura] Charles says, "If you've got something good, I'm game, provided it won't delay the main course when they show."

[ussura] Vasili says, "Let's go with the 'do something' option, yeah."

Ghogg arrives, looking for booty.

Vasili borrows a fur from Pyotr, with that cold wind picking up.

GM says, "So! Daniele was due back tonight (the night of the treaty negotiations on the forums), as was the fox sent to the fire berry grove. But neither have shown up. You go ahead and sleep, figuring they'll turn up the next morning. But by the morning, they still haven't shown."

Charles says, "This is inconvenient."

GM exclaims, "After breakfast, one of the sentries sounds the perimeter warning, and everyone prepares for whatever she might have seen. But then the all-clear is sounded--it's the fox!"

Fox, somewhat bloody and bedraggled, limps into the camp.

Vasili gasps.

Charles says, "Those wolves."

Fox exclaims, "The fire-berry bushes were ruined! Stripped of the berries, even of the leaves!"

Vasili fetches one of those healer animals.

GM says, "A muskrat shows up and binds the fox's wounds."

Fox says, "I managed to find a single berry, buried in the snow, before I was set upon by the wolves."

Fox says, "I'm sorry I didn't make it back sooner."

Charles asks, "You've done very well, considering. How were you hurt?"

Vasili asks, "And .. Daniele?"

[ussura] Vasili says, "[lag]"

Narimont says, "A single berry *should* be all we need. But these are ill tidings."

Pyotr arrives, looking for booty.

[ussura] Pyotr exclaims, "hi!"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "so very sorry"

Fox says, "I have not seen her, but I had to make my way back a different way; we parted company a day and a half ago, before I saw the grove."

[ussura] Charles says, "Hey, welcome."

[ussura] GM exclaims, "No problem!"

[ussura] Charles says, "Apparently, there's trouble in the enchanted wood."

[ussura] Pyotr says, "as always"

Fox says (to Charles), "Surface wounds, mostly. I've evaded many wolves in my day, and they may be working for someone else now, but... they're still wolves, after all."

Raelynn arrives, looking for booty.

[ussura] Vasili says, "oh right, she was going to see the Ice Queen, not to the grove."

[ussura] Charles says, "Clearly, the Fox deserves a medal for valorous deeds in service of Narnia, but we're no kings and queens."

[ussura] GM says, "(the recap is that Daniele and the fox had not returned with the ritual/berries as planned, then the next morning the fox finally showed up, injured, with only one berry and the story that the grove had been vandalized)"

[ussura] GM says (to Charles), "Hee"

[ussura] Vasili says, "hey, don't run up our Narnia joke quota too soon"

[ussura] Charles exclaims (at Vasili), "But we've been here for months! I can't hold them back any longer!"

[ussura] Charles says, "Or possibly just a couple days. It's hard to tell."

[ussura] inky says, "ha ha"

Charles says, "I want to hope that Daniele has fared better, but as she hasn't returned yet..."

[ussura] GM says, "(phone, afk)"

Charles says, "Do we know what route she was to take? Maybe we should try look for her."

Vasili asks (of Nemka), "Do you have any sort of magical way of checking up on her?"

Nemka says, "Hmm. I will send my people to look."

inky is suddenly the linchpin of all the fights and can inexplicably understand pixies.

Nemka nods to his subjects, and they melt away into the forest.

Nemka says (to Charles), "We do know the way she was to come back. Looking there might indeed be wise."

[Crows-Nest] Charles asks, "Is it really safe for the ice people to melt like that?"

[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "poor choice of words"

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Hee"

[ussura] GM says, "(phone again..)"

[ussura] Charles asks, "Was Nemka just implying that his people who just melted away were looking that, or that we should go look there?"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "sounded like both"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "I'm game"

Vasili says, "Well, if there's any way I can help..."

[ussura] GM says, "Back! And yeah, you guys looking in that spot was indeed what he was implying."

Pyotr exclaims (at Vasili), "Let's go find your girlfriend!"

Vasili says (to Pyotr), "(aside) Wonder if this is an ordinary place way, or a Thrice-Tenth way, or something else confusing. Can hardly keep track of how everybody gets around."

Vasili says (to Pyotr), "Oh, har har."

GM says, "You gather your stuff, and thus set, one of the snow people leads you along the river for a ways, and then cuts across a field and between two mountains."

GM says, "The distant terrain changes weirdly as you go, though the step-to-step movement seems normal enough."

GM says, "You're tromping across a field when Pyotr says, "Hey, look over there--that whole area's been trampled down.""

Vasili ignores the jagged hills over where he's sure there was a lazy river a moment ago.

Vasili asks, "another battle field?"

Charles asks, "Or an army on the march?"

GM says, "There's still a fair amount of snow, but with patches of long grass poking through. But in the area that Pyotr mentioned, nothing's poking up any more, and there seem to be nothing but wolf prints, darting everywhere."

[ussura] Vasili asks, "how big an area?"

[ussura] GM asks, "Hmm, maybe the footprint of a house?"

[ussura] GM says, "I guess in Ussura that'd be a chicken print."

Vasili says, "Or a search for something."

[ussura] GM says (to Pyotr), "Roll me a tracking! Assuming you investigate."

Pyotr says, "Okay"

Pyotr looks around a bit.

GM says, "Oho--among the wolf prints are bare human footprints with downturned toes--the same tracks you've seen the snow people make."

Pyotr asks (of Vasili), "See this?"

Pyotr says, "Doesn't look good."

Charles asks (of Pyotr), "Do those tracks intersect with the wolfprints, or was she travelling with them?"

Pyotr asks, "Well, hmm, let's see... are the wolf prints on top of these footprints, or the other way around?"

Vasili watches, frowning.

GM says, "Seems to be both, but nobody is obviously travelling a particular direction."

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "maybe there was a fight? any frozen wolf blood or ice chunks or anything?"

GM says, "As Pyotr is tromping around, following the footprints amoung the pawprints, Vasili is suddenly struck by something--it's like Pyotr is tracing out the outline of a dance."

Vasili says, "Hm. It was a fight."

Vasili asks, "Spotted any tracks coming or going?"

Pyotr wanders around the edges?

[ussura] Pyotr says, "er, -?+."

GM says (to Vasili), "And in fact, it's the very same dance she danced with you when you two were fighting last time."

Charles says, "If you can find out which direction she went..."

GM says (to Pyotr), "Ah, there you go--one place where the footprints came in, several places where pawprints come in, and one place where most of the pawprints leave. And a few places where some things were dragged, leaving behind tufts of wolf hair."

Vasili says, "Yes, she would have ..." and starts retracing her prints from that quick spin-and-a-half.

Pyotr says, "The wolves went this way, but the feet..."

GM says, "There's where you two took out those wolves--and indeed, there's where one of the drag marks start. And there's where she assisted you the last time, and there, in the middle, is where she kissed you."

Vasili says, "Wha..."

[ussura] GM says, "(er, not that it's exact; just the same dance)"

[ussura] Vasili says, "ah, okay"

[ussura] GM says, "But the extra flourishes that she did at the other fight seem to have been recreated here."

[ussura] Charles asks, "So whom was she kissing this time, eh?"

[ussura] GM says, "Hee hee"

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "the wolf?"

Vasili says, "I guess we follow after them, then."

[ussura] GM exclaims (at Vasili), "Roll Finesse!"

Pyotr says, "Yeah, this way."

Pyotr leads, keeping an eye on the tracks

Vasili is quite confused and distracted.

GM says, "Vasili, standing in the spot in the dance where the kiss was, suddenly slips on a patch of ice and lands on his butt."

Raelynn looks up at Vasili's thud in the midst of sketching the various dance steps. It never hurts to know new moves

Charles says (to Rae), "I'd recommend against trying out *that* particular move."

GM says, "Which is weird, because in general there's been no ice on the ground here, just patchy snow."

Pyotr asks, "Ice?"

Raelynn says, "did vasili just trip on danielle"

[ussura] Vasili says, "oops, I only have Finesse 3. So that was really an 8. :)"

Vasili asks, "Ice?"

Charles says, "She's no frog, but..."

Vasili says, "Oh."

[ussura] GM says, "OK, you fell on your back ;-)"

Charles says, "Seems worth a try."

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says (to charles), "don't kiss the ice! your tongue will stick to it!"

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Ha"

Vasili says, "Wait, ice !?!"

[Crows-Nest] Charles says, "Hee."

Pyotr says (to Charles), "I'd get some hot water to unfreeze his lips, but it seems possibly disrespectful"

Charles claps Vasili on the shoulder. "Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do."

Vasili says, "Er. Yes."

Raelynn says, "wait, before you do anything"

Vasili is not feeling very awake at this point.

Raelynn looks quizzically at the ice patch

[ussura] Raelynn asks (of gm), "is it just an irregular ice patch? or is there a specific shape?"

[ussura] Charles asks, "Worried about him kissing an inappropriate spot?"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "if vasili is going to kiss it, he might as well as get near the vicinity of her mouth or something"

[ussura] Vasili says, "ha ha ha"

GM says (to Raelynn), "The bit that Vasili slipped on is flat; the rest is mostly under the snow."

Pyotr helps Raelynn to remove the snow. While not standing on the ice at all.

Raelynn brushes the snow aside to get a feel for how big the patch it

GM asks, "As Raelynn and Pyotr brush off the snow from the ice, Raelynn suddenly blinks. "Wait, are those letters? "TLE - HAV" ?"

Vasili says, "I have trouble with those too, but maybe if we move more snow they'll be words."

Raelynn brush brush brush

GM says, "You clear off the rest of the snow to reveal a mostly-circular patch of ice that lies flat on the ground. A few of the letters have been scuffed up, but you eventually make out:"

Daniele exclaims, "VASILI - TAKING ME TO CASTLE - HAVE STONE COLLAR? - LOOKS EVIL - HELP!"

Pyotr asks, "Collar? are we supposed to have one?"

Charles asks, "Castle? Collar?"

Vasili asks, "Does Wolf have a castle?"

Charles says, "Maybe we should head back to Narimont and Nemka"

Raelynn asks, "drachen's castle?"

Pyotr asks (of Charles), "Do we have time?"

GM says (to Vasili), "There's the palace at Pavtlow, but it's not usually described as a 'castle'."

Raelynn asks, "maybe the stone collar will subdue the wolf?"

Vasili says, "Or they're trying to beat us to the drachen!"

Pyotr says (to Vasili), "Hmm, they did do something to the grove of fire berries."

Charles says, "Maybe it's the castle where the drachen is."

Charles says, "If they intend to wake the drachen first..."

Pyotr says, "That could be bad."

Charles says, "Then I suppose it's a good thing we negotiated carefully."

Raelynn asks (of charles), "or it's a trap. they want us to show up at the castle and kill us before we can wake it up?"

Charles says (to Rae), "Could be. Although it's not as though we can not go."

Vasili says, "Wolves don't write letters in ice hidden under the snow."

Charles asks, "Do we know what Daniele was supposed to be retrieving?"

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "The ritual to use with the potion to wake the drachen."

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "whoops, channel, but still"

Raelynn says (to vasili), "right, but wolves probably don't know that daniele is warning us. we might have walked into the ambush"

Pyotr asks, "So if they got her on the way back, they might have the potion?"

Vasili says, "It doesn't say 'careful', it says HELP!"

[ussura] GM says, "Yay"

Vasili starts back the way they came.

Charles says (to Duchess), "But then, if we didn't get the message, we'd still be waiting and searching for her."

Pyotr says, "Yeah, I'm with Vasili."

Charles says, "I too."

GM says, "With all due haste, you return to the camp, where the potion from the single retreived fire berry has just finished being prepared."

Vasili mumbles, "Every word counts, anybody could find the message, and she starts with my name"

Raelynn says (to Vasili), "you might want to start thinking about rings and flowers"

Narimont says, "Here you are. There's no extra, and even that might not be enough--it is a large drachen after all--but it should work, if used correctly."

Raelynn asks (of narimont), "do we just sprinkle it on the drachen?"

Pyotr asks, "How do we use it?"

Raelynn asks, "or is this part of the ritual that daniele was researching?"

Narimont exclaims, "That's what Daniele was supposed to find out!"

Vasili gives Raelynn a surprised look, unaware she was close enough to hear. "She gave me frostbite!"

Pyotr says, "Right."

Charles says (to Narimont), "There's been more trouble. It looks like the wolves have her."

Narimont says, "To put him to sleep, it required he drink it, and I assume that's still true. But beyond that..."

Charles says (to Narimont), "And they might be trying to beat us there."

Pyotr says, "We should get moving."

Narimont shakes his head. "Then I hope you are able to rescue her, and quickly. I'm glad you and Sebastien discovered the drachen's trickery with our agreement. That could have been disasterous."

Charles says, "Indeed. Let's go."

GM says, "When Nemka hears about Daniele's message, his eyes go white with rage, and the cold fire behind him shoots sparks."

Nemka exclaims, "A stone collar! Those were to have been destroyed centuries ago!"

Nemka says, "They were supposedly used to enslave my people."

Raelynn asks (of nemka), "what kind of power does the collar have?"

Raelynn asks, "if it's used to enslave the Ice People, what would Daniele ask Vasili if he has one?"

Charles says, "That'd explain how they would get the ritual from her."

Vasili asks, "and what does it take to destroy or remove one?"

Charles says (to Rae), "I think the *wolves* are the ones who have the collar."

Vasili says (to Raelynn), "Not me, they had one."

Raelynn says, "oh. the ? mark threw me off"

Nemka says (to Vasili), "According to the tales, they were destroyed by smashing the gems embedded in them. But beyond that, not much is known any more."

Charles asks, "Are we waiting for anything else?"

Raelynn asks (of Nemka), "do we know what kind of gems they are?"

[ussura] GM asks, "You gather supplies and stuff--anything else? Any final Favors/questions?"

[ussura] Vasili says, "> @summon guide. fast forward."

Raelynn says, "it would be good to know what things look like"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "one question before we fastforward"

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "if i leave a blooded object with nemka, will i be able to get back to him if we need to talk with him?"

[ussura] Charles says, "I'm assuming they can't send a small army along. On the other hand, Montegue might be bringing one."

[ussura] GM says, "Yeah, the fighting has intensified here, so they can't spare many, and I can't run that many NPCs in any event ;-)"

[ussura] GM says (to Raelynn), "Sure, that should work."

Raelynn says (to Nemka), "Here, this ribbon has been blooded. Can you make sure this is near you at all times? Maybe tied to the poles of your pavilion (but near the ground)? This way, if we need to talk to you, I can come back"

[ussura] GM asks (of R), "Doing that, then? Blood-bonding any of your cohorts?"

[ussura] GM says, "(whoops, timing)"

Nemka nods gravely. "I will take care of it, my lady."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "and i don't think putting my blood on a leopard is a good idea"

[ussura] Vasili says, "yeah, it's impossible to wash blood out of furs"

[Crows-Nest] (from Charles) Narimont sniff sniff. . o O ( She smells tasty... )

GM says, "And with that, a guide is summoned (the same bird that led you here, several days ago), and you tromp off through the woods. The bird makes many twists and turns, and every time you make another, the background mountains seem to have gotten closer, farther away, or both. Finally, you come to the edge of the woods."

Charles asks, "Are those the same mountains that were on the horizon when we started?"

Bird exclaims, "At the bottom of the hill is St. Andresgorod, and on the mountain behind it is Castle Andresgorod. I am needed back at the camp, but Sivka said that he will still be listening for you should you require his or our assistance. I bid you good luck!"

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "are we travel within the thrice-tenth as a "shortcut" or are we in the prosaic reality?"

Bird says (to Charles), "No, we passed those several hours ago."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "timing"

Charles says, "Amazing. Some day, I'm going to have to come back and draw a map."

Charles says (to Bird), "Thank you for your help."

Raelynn offers a handful of seeds

GM says, "You've travelled for a good day and a half; it's now evening, and you see smoke coming from the houses of the city below."

Vasili says (to Charles), "There are plenty of good ways to go insane, I'm sure you'll find a legendary one."

Bird exclaims (at Raelynn), "Thank you!"

[Crows-Nest] Charles says, "I wonder if, after getting help from a Montaigne, the animals here would thank them by offering a piece of puff pastry."

Bird eats the seeds daintily.

[Crows-Nest] (from Vasili) Sebastien wipes his face. "No, whatever do you mean?"

Pyotr asks, "Hmm. Do we stop in town or straight to the castle?"

[Crows-Nest] Charles says, "Hee."

Raelynn asks, "recoinassance first in the town?"

Vasili says, "Looks like town is on the way."

Charles says, "We might want to check if anyone's seen a large pack of wolves passing this way."

Pyotr says, "We'd better watch out for those wolf-men, though."

Pyotr says, "They were creepy."

Charles marches down toward human civilization.

Pyotr says (to Charles), "I see you've never been to St Andresgorod before."

Vasili says, "I haven't either, but oh, the stories. And look, with a few fires going, it would be no trouble to -- uh, to collect information and be on our way."

[ussura] GM says, "That's right; we're back in Pyotr's home province."

[ussura] Charles asks, "Uh-oh. A whole city full of Pyotrs?"

[ussura] Charles asks, "And Pyotrettes?"

[ussura] GM says, "Hee hee"

[ussura] GM exclaims, "Ladies and Gentlemen! It's Pyotr the Murderer and the Pyotrettes!"

[ussura] Pyotr exclaims, "not even the beards tell us apart!"

[ussura] Vasili says, "wait, what am I saying? so much for 'if familiar with the town'"

[ussura] GM says, "Hee hee"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "Well, this is the big city. we're from the sticks"

[ussura] Vasili says, "I'm sure all the stories grant me some mechanical bonus."

GM asks, "What's the plan? Stop in at an inn? A store? The stables?"

Pyotr says, "Hmm, there's a tavern I remember hearing about. A bit shady, but the bartenders there hear everything."

Charles asks, "Chat up the gate guards?"

Pyotr asks (of Vasili), "What di Herald say it was called?"

Pyotr asks, "The, um, The Axe and Vines, maybe?"

Vasili says, "The Rat-Tail? Oh, the Axe and Vines, yeah, probably better."

GM says, "You make your way down the hill to the town, where a low wall generally surrounds the city, broken by the road going through it, and in decent but not pristine repair. The city has grown since it was built, so there are several farmhouses and a few homes on the outskirts."

Charles asks, "So do we just walk up to the castle and say 'we're here to wake up your drachen', or will we need to find the back door?"

GM says, "Vasil and Pyotr's friends would always jump the wall, preferring not to be seen by the guards at the road gates."

[ussura] GM says, "(whoops, 'Vasili')"

Pyotr asks (of Charles), "Don't we have Borin's signet ring?"

Pyotr says, "That should get us in, hopefully, with only a few questions asked"

Vasili eyes the wall looking for good entry points before even thinking about using the gate.

Vasili says (to Pyotr), "Wait, but we do want to ask questions."

Charles asks, "Ah, good. So, aside from checking on any recent visits from other would-be wakers, is there anything we need to ask about at the tavern?"

Pyotr asks (of Vasili), "Sure, but do we want to answer 'em?"

Charles says, "Besides a round of fortifying beverages, that is."

Pyotr says (to Charles), "I was gonna ask about marauding wolf packs and arsonists."

Vasili says (to Pyotr), "Waste of time."

Vasili says, "And a jeweler."

Pyotr asks, "Right, and a...wait, what?"

Raelynn smiles

[Crows-Nest] GM exclaims, "He's buying a ring!"

Vasili says, "For rescuing Daniele, of course."

Raelynn asks, "would it be worth asking about a girl fitting daniele's description?"

Raelynn says, "maybe the wolves have enslaved her to do stuff in town while they stay out of sight"

Pyotr asks (of Raelynn), "Made out of ice, escorted by a wolf pack?"

Pyotr says, "Oh hm"

Charles asks, "So where's this tavern at?"

Raelynn says (to pyotr), "a pale girl as her, perhaps acting disoriented would attract attention"

Pyotr says (to Charles), "Um, good question."

Pyotr says, "Herald wasn't good at directions, and that's before being in a tavern."

Vasili says, "We'll have to dig for boring stories like that, but I'm sure somebody would talk."

Raelynn says (to Pyotr), "is that it? There's a wooden sign over that door with a pictureof an axe"

Raelynn points

[Crows-Nest] GM asks, "Did you jump the wall?"

Charles says, "I think that's an axe-repair shop."

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says, "oh."

[Crows-Nest] Charles says, "I think so."

[ussura] GM says, "Did you jump the wall? (whoops channel)"

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says, "i assumed we were in town already"

GM says, "That's OK, I appreciate trying to move things along ;-)"

[ussura] Vasili says, "I think we were going for gate-guard-chat first."

[ussura] Vasili says, "but sure, skip it"

[ussura] Charles says, "I assumed that the fact that we kept talking meant we kept walking."

[ussura] Raelynn says (to vasili), "we can always double back, i guess, depending on what we see in the tavern"

[ussura] Charles says, "And since no guard had spoken up yet..."

GM says, "So, you jump the wall to get into town, and as Raelynn scrambles down, she notices a sign plastered to the inside."

[ussura] Pyotr is a natural-born wall jumper

sign says "WANTED for the MURDER of OUR BELOVED KNIAS: PYOTR THE MURDERER and HIS GANG. 5,000 RUBLES, DEAD OR ALIVE! (1,000 for information)" Below is Pyotr's face as he looked 5 years ago (or so), and which he's seen on many a wanted poster in the past. On a nearby sign is a much more sketchy drawing of the rest of you!

Charles exclaims (at Pyotr), "Hey, you've got a gang now!"

[Crows-Nest] Vasili outwits the wall and convinces it to let him in.

Vasili says, "Oh yeah, that."

Charles exclaims (at Pyotr), "You're really moving up in the world!"

Pyotr says (to Charles), "Silence, knave."

Raelynn says, "sigh. i could have done a much better job of drawing that"

Pyotr says, "also, shoot, right."

Vasili says, "Hey, we have information."

Pyotr says, "I gotta deal with that somehow."

Raelynn says, "oh-kay, no tavern"

Pyotr says, "Maybe I should just hop back over this wall."

Charles asks, "Did you ever get pardon papers from mousey?"

Vasili says (to Raelynn), "Why not? We're experts at fighting our way out of taverns."

Pyotr says (to Charles), "He wasn't feeling very kniasy"

Charles says (to Raelynn), "Enh, taverns seem safer than just about anywhere else we might go for information."

Vasili says, "Still working on the 'out of town' part"

Pyotr says, "Although, I'm amazed they're finally admitting he's dead."

Pyotr asks, "After so many years... I wonder who in the castle decided to reveal that?"

Raelynn says (to pyotr), "i don't think it's that one"

Charles asks (of Pyotr), "By the way, do we need 5,000 rubles?"

Vasili says (to Pyotr), "Oh yeah, that is a change. I guess it's tougher without somebody pretending."

Pyotr says (to Vasili), "Or unfriendly people there know we're on our way"

Raelynn says (to pyotr), "i partly suspect this is referring to borin. imagine if we'd showen up and showed the ring to the guards? it would have confirmed we did the murder"

Raelynn says, "sigh. i am tired of running all over ussura because someone thinks i did something wrong"

[ussura] Vasili asks, "I assume neither of our Glamour folks have that disguise magick?"

Raelynn says, "i used to spend my days singing dancing and flirting"

[ussura] GM says, "Charles has the actual Disguise skill from his spy thingummy."

Vasili says (to Raelynn), "And what were you doing last night? Mm hm."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "hey, so do i"

Raelynn says (to vasili), "i haven't sung in ages"

[ussura] GM says, "Oh, and a letter for a guy in St. Andresgorod."

[ussura] Charles asks, "Also, BTW, does Ussura really have currency?"

[ussura] Charles asks (of GM), "That was the one from the good guy who gave me the squirting flower, right?"

[ussura] Charles asks, "Did he say whom/where to deliver it to?"

[ussura] Vasili says, "so the operative here will give you big clown shoes with concealed knife tips, excellent"

[ussura] Charles checks. "Ah, 'the depot'."

[ussura] Charles says, "Which presumably I can find the same way that I found the one in that other town where I got this from."

[ussura] Vasili asks, "So anybody want to try some disguising before we start wandering around?"

[ussura] GM says (to Charles), "Which transcript is this? Now I can't find it ;-)"

[ussura] Pyotr will try any disguise that doesn't involve more than a light trim.

[ussura] GM says, "A light trim and pumps."

[ussura] Raelynn says (to pytor), "if we give you a bath that's enough of a disguise"

Charles gets a sharp knife and starts making alterations to one of Sebastien's least favorite shirts.

Vasili says, "Couldn't hurt. Much."

Vasili asks, "But how to tone down my stunning good looks?"

Charles says, "I suppose, if we've been added to the official list of local threats."

[ussura] Raelynn asks (of vasili), "what color is your hair?"

Vasili says, "Not like they did me justice in the sketch."

[ussura] Vasili asks, "uh, probably black?"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "drat"

Charles fakes some wrinkles around the eyes and gives himself a narrow villainous moustache.

GM says, "The rest of you try to mostly not look like the badly-sketched drawings from the sign, and head into town. Charles sees the signs for the depot, and there by that other building is an actual huge axe, suspended by a rope that has wilted leaves stuck into it hat vaguely make it look like a vine if you squint."

[ussura] Charles says (to Rae), "You might have to do your own instead."

Pyotr asks (of Charles), "How come you get crows-feet and a moustache and I get a shirt?"

[ussura] GM says (to Rae), "If you want to try to do a better job with Pyotr, you can roll, too."

Charles exclaims (at Pyotr), "But you've already got c-- a moustache!"

[Crows-Nest] Pyotr says, "ouch"

[ussura] Charles asks, "Was that roll Raelynn on herself or on Pyotr?"

Raelynn-as-Rowlf uses her sketch pencils to draw some weathered lines on pyotr's face and hands. She uses her needle and thread to fashion a hump under pyotr's cloak. Now he looks like an old old man

[ussura] GM says, "That was her for Pyotr."

[ussura] Raelynn-as-Rowlf says, "pyotr. i am Rowlf already."

[ussura] Charles says, "Ah, good, good."

[ussura] Charles asks, "Is anyone left undisguised?"

[ussura] Raelynn-as-Rowlf asks, "i assume seb and era and alix are taken care of?"

[ussura] GM exclaims, "Nah, we'll go with those. Onward!"

Pyotr says (to Raelynn), "Aye, lad, thank'ee kindly! I'm just a poor old man, and as an old man who is really old I appreciate the kindness from you."

Charles says (to Others), "I'll catch up with you at the Axe and Vine. I have some quick business to take care of first."

Vasili says, "Right."

Vasili heads in and looks over the clientele.

Charles follows the trail of inoccuous scratches and scuffmarks carefully placed at specific intersections until he finds the right door.

Charles knock knockknock knock knock.

GM says, "Mostly working-class folks, a few obvious-to-you lowlifes."

Pyotr heads to the bar. "Hey, sonny, a round fer me and my friends, I mean my nephews, on account of me bein' so much older than them!"

[interludes] Gronon opens the door for Charles. "come in! Come in!"

[ussura] GM says, "Hee hee"

Raelynn-as-Rowlf resists the urge to smack herself, or pyotr

Vasili says, "er, never mind unk here. Except the part about him payin'."

GM says, "A round is purchased and distributed, and you find a table by the window."

Pyotr asks (of Bartender), "So, my idiot nephew here (slaps Vasili on the head) was sayin' his girl wanted a wolfskin cloak to keep her warm next winter. You hear of anyone huntin' wolf recently?"

Bartender snorts. "Not likely. Not with Aleksi on his way here to settle the succession."

Vasili smirks (partly in case that sounds like a poor joke)

Pyotr asks, "Aleksi! Here?"

[interludes] Charles hurries in. "Ah, thank you! Is this where the friends of Dmitri Konstantin do business?"

[interludes] Charles waits for the appropriate countersign.

Vasili says, "Er, yeah. (He's been in bed with the flu and is a little behind on the news)"

Bartender shrugs. "'swhat they say. And nobody wants to be caught killin a wolf if it's true, so they're gettin a pass."

Raelynn-as-Rowlf ignores Pytor and leans over to the table next to her. "I am trying to track down this gorgeous girl. I've been chasing her all over Ussura. Would you happen to know if she passed through here? She's pale pale pale, and has an angelic face."

Pyotr says (to Bartender), "Good thinkin' He'll have to try for bear, I think."

[interludes] Gronon exclaims, "The friends of Dmitri haven't been here for a long time. Nor Ivan's neice. [And there's your countersign] So, tell me the news!"

Pyotr asks, "When's he supposed to arrive?"

Bolei exclaims (at Rowlf), "Haw! Nah, no strange wimmin coming through here. Forget her! I'll get you set up with a real beaut!"

[interludes] Charles says, "I've come from Kem. <He tells Gronon about Montegue and LaVache and the ships and so forth.> And while I was there, I was given a letter to deliver here."

Raelynn-as-Rowlf sighs theatrically

Raelynn-as-Rowlf says, "I am afraid my eyes see no other face but hers"

(From GM) Bartender says (to Pyotr) "Soon, they say. The Tyomny have been real busy at the castle gettin it ready."

Pyotr says, "Hmm, interestin'"

Raelynn-as-Rowlf says, "she's enchanted me entirely. I can't even imagine being with anyone else"

Bolei slaps Rowlf on the back good-naturedly "Haw, you got it bad! I'll keep an eye out for yeh!"

Pyotr says, "When did old Borin die? I just heard about it recent, it seems, but no one's seen him in a while."

Raelynn-as-Rowlf says (to bolei), "thank you good friend"

[interludes] Gronon exclaims, "Ah, excellent!"

[interludes] Charles passes it over, still sealed.

Raelynn-as-Rowlf passes her undrunk mug of ale to bolei. "Here, have a drink"

Raelynn-as-Rowlf asks (of Bolei), "perhaps (hopefully) she is a local? Is there a paler than normal girl amongst your townspeople or the surroundings?"

Bolei blinks in surprise. "Thank yeh, lad! To your woman!" and downs half of it in one gulp.

Vasili leaves Unk to his chatting, and carries his drink over to the table.

Vasili says (to Rowlf), "So you serious about getting that ring today? You can't even find her!"

[ussura] Charles asks, "Which ones were the Tyomny? Tamara's group, or that church group, or a different one?"

(From GM) Bartender says, "Died in Pavtlow on his trip, they say. The stories have been real mixed, but everyone agrees that Borin died there. Sad, really, especially since he left no heir."

Raelynn-as-Rowlf asks (of Vasili), "oh, i want to be prepared when i find her. i wouldn't want to give her a chance to escape once i find her, now would you?"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "it was Borin's police guys"

[ussura] GM says, "They are the Somojez group."

[ussura] Pyotr says, "who want to arrest pyotr"

Pyotr exclaims (at Bartender), "A shame!"

[ussura] GM says, "And also associated with the church, I believe."

[interludes] Charles . o O ( So is he going to open it or... )

Pyotr asks, "I heard there was a mess of trouble in Pavtlow. He got killed in the big fire?"

Bolei says, "A pale girl, eh? I guess most everyone's pale here in town."

Vasili says, "Ha, I've escaped worse myself. But I guess we need to find you a jeweler, then."

[interludes] Gronon opens the letter and pulls it out to read it.

[interludes] Gronon says, "[sorry, too many windows again ;-]"

Bartender nods to Pyotr.

Raelynn-as-Rowlf says (to bolei), "here!"

[interludes] Charles waits patiently for Gronon to finish.

Raelynn-as-Rowlf spills a bit of ale from vasili's mug on the table and hastily sketches daniele's face

Raelynn-as-Rowlf asks (of bolei), "does she look familiar?"

[interludes] Gronon exclaims, "No! It can't be!"

Raelynn-as-Rowlf asks, "doesn't she take your breath away?"

[interludes] Charles asks, "What is it?"

[interludes] Gronon rushes into the other room.

Pyotr asks (of Bartender), "So what are all those wanted posters about? I heard that there Pyotr the Murderer left the country. He's back?"

[interludes] Charles follows discreetly.

Vasili says, "well, seems like she takes my booze away, anyhow"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "I'm glad Rae did such a nice disguise check"

[Crows-Nest] Charles says (to Vasili), "Hee."

[interludes] Gronon pulls off a variety of items from a back table until he finally reveals...

[ussura] Pyotr says, "cause Pyotr isn't very good on the subtle"

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn-as-Rowlf says, "this is giggle-worthy"

[interludes] Gronon... a chess board.

[interludes] Gronon exclaims, "Mate in 6? I don't believe it!"

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn-as-Rowlf laughs

[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "yay!"

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn-as-Rowlf applauds for the GM. I am not wasting a drama die on someone who has an infinite supply of them

[interludes] Charles says, "Ah, I see... you know, there is a larger game going on right now."

[interludes] Gronon sets the letter next to the board and starts miming out moves.

[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "(technically he doesn't, he just has more than enough for all reasonable purposes)"

[interludes] Charles says, "One knight is moving up and down the coast with what remains of his army, trying to make peace with the locals, now that he's made his own peace with Matushka."

Bolei looks at the sketch. "Hunh! Almost looks like one o them snow girls. Naw, nobody here that looks like that.

[Crows-Nest] Charles says, "All he has to do is give us more and encourage us to use them."

[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "that too"

Raelynn-as-Rowlf sighs in disappointment

Bartender says (to Pyotr), "Well, he's the one supposed to have killed 'im in Pavtlow, and they say he's on his way here! But we'll be ready for him."

Bartender looks grim.

[ussura] Vasili says, "going semi-afk multitasking for a few"

[interludes] Charles says, "Another, perhaps LaVache himself, should be on his way to this very spot. It's my hope that we can lay some kind of ambush for him."

Pyotr says, "Good man! I heard how he spent the night once in a small town, used to be called Smarnez."

[interludes] Gronon grins at Charles.

Raelynn-as-Rowlf quietly to Vasili let's get unk and go. i think we found out everything we were going to learn about

Pyotr says, "He ddn't like the beer in the tavern."

Pyotr exclaims, "So he killed everyone in the town, and all the chickens, too!"

[interludes] Gronon asks, "Called 'LaVache'? Isn't that... 'cow'?"

Raelynn-as-Rowlf says (to Pytotr), "unk you forgot the part where the cows all dropped dead the second he walked into town"

Pyotr says, "But I'm sure he'd like you beer! Good evenin' to ya, friend."

Pyotr says (to Rowlf), "Hush, you. You done drinkin'? I'm leavin'."

[ussura] Bartender says, "Did I miss any of your questions? Been switching windows a lot again."

Raelynn-as-Rowlf says (to pyotr), "(scrambles to feet) i'm ready i'm coming (scrambling out the door)"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "I think it was good"

[ussura] Raelynn-as-Rowlf says, "chaz hurry up"

[interludes] Charles says, "I'm sure he would claim that it's the name of an ancient and honorable family."

[interludes] Charles says, "But I'm equally sure that he would be lying through his teeth."

[interludes] Gronon says, "Well, alright. You want some help for this? I'm kinda on my own out here, but I do have a few resources."

Vasili says, "what, already? well, ok"

[interludes] Charles asks, "Do you know if there's a way that we can ensure that once he or his men reach this city, he doesn't leave again?"

[interludes] Charles says, "He has crimes to answer for."

[interludes] Gronon asks, "Distracting him? Slip him something in a drink?"

[interludes] Charles says, "It might work. I'm not sure how distractible he is."

[interludes] Charles says, "Unfortunately, if he arrives too earlier, I might be busy at the time..."

[interludes] Gronon says, "Well, I've not been too busy of late, so I'll do what I can."

[interludes] Gronon gets a description of LaVache and Touissant from you, and writes them down.

[interludes] Charles says, "Thank you. I'm most grateful."

Pyotr looks around. "Where did your other ...um, cousin, go?

[interludes] Charles asks, "By the way, my current job requires access to the castle -- or rather, under it. Do you happen to know a good way to get a small group inside without raising too many questions?"

[interludes] Gronon says, "Be careful out there. What with the Knias dead and all, everybody's been on edge. Tyomny's mostly left the town alone, but everyone avoids 'em when they come in for anything. Something gonig on at the castle."

[interludes] Gronon says, "Ah, hmm."

[interludes] Gronon says, "There could be a way. Tamara's agents would sometimes need to visit Borin discreetly."

[interludes] Gronon says, "There's a passage around the west side of the castle they would use. It wasn't exactly well-known, but it wasn't exactly a huge secret, either."

[interludes] Gronon asks, "You're heading up there?"

[interludes] Charles says, "Aye."

[interludes] Charles asks, "Was there something you were about to warn me about, at the castle?"

[interludes] Gronon says, "Personally, I'd wait until the new heir's selected, but I suppose time is of the essence."

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn-as-Rowlf says, ""CAREFUL CHARLES THERZ A DRACHEN THERE!""

[interludes] Gronon says, "Just that everyone's on edge. Tyomny's a fiercely loyal bunch, only right now they don't know who to be loyal *to*."

[interludes] Gronon says, "Or at least they didn't last I heard. But once they latch on to someone to lead them, they'll follow him off a cliff, if it comes to that."

[interludes] Gronon says, "Just be careful."

[interludes] Charles says (to Gronon), "To tell the truth, if this goes well, the selection of the new heir-- well. I shouldn't say too much."

[interludes] Gronon raises an eyebrow, but doesn't ask any questions.

[interludes] Charles says, "But thank you, and fare well. I'll come back after we've finished our task."

[interludes] Charles returns to the others.

[ussura] Charles asks, "OK, so I'm still not certain: where *is* Keth right now?"

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "okay, so are the wolves that took Daniele with Aelksi's army, or separate?"

[ussura] Charles asks, "Is she in the 3X, or elsewhere?"

[ussura] Charles says (to Pyotr), "Given the fact that they're not here yet, I'm going to guess with the army."

[ussura] GM says, "At this point, she should be on her way overland heading south from the coast."

[ussura] Pyotr says (to Charles), "that's bad"

[ussura] Vasili says, "(back to full attention, good timing)"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "if we could do things before the army arrived, that'd be good"

[ussura] Charles says, "Yeah."

[ussura] Pyotr says, "if we have to wait for the army to bring her, that's bad"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "if we have to go rescue her from the army and they chase us back to the castle and we wake the drachen just in time...hmm, interesting"

Vasili says, "Or, the wolves are nearby and didn't come through town."

[ussura] Charles asks (of GM), "Are we likely to be capable of making a decision there, do you think?"

[ussura] GM asks, "Er um maybe?"

[ussura] Charles says, "If we think of a better (more dramatically appropriate and exciting) place for Daniele to be other than with the army, and pursue *that*, then by dramatic necessity that *is* where she'll be."

[ussura] Raelynn-as-Rowlf asks (of charles), "already at the castle, in a cage, hanging right over the sleeping drachen?"

[ussura] Charles says, "So we can use the time before the next session to think up a good place to rescue her from that'll get her here before Aleksi or Touissant arrives."

[ussura] Charles exclaims (at Rae), "I like that!"

[ussura] Raelynn-as-Rowlf asks, "does a sleeping drachen snore fire?"

[ussura] Raelynn-as-Rowlf says, "she could be terrified because she's m-e-l-t-i-n-g"

[ussura] Vasili says, "IC it does make some sense to head for the castle first, since if Daniele and wolves aren't there, it means we have more time to explore other possibilities."

[ussura] Vasili says, "and yeah, OOC if we do all head there, they'll be there, and Montegue, Keth, and another army of bad guys will all show up at perfect dramatic moments."

[ussura] Charles says, "Yeah. Plus, it's not unreasonable that a small party of wolves did know a back entrance, not unlike the one we're using."

[ussura] Vasili says, "though not in that order"

[ussura] Charles exclaims, "Right. So, to the castle first!"

[ussura] Charles says, "(Already decided, and no need for the forum after all!)"

[ussura] GM says, "Yay"

[ussura] Vasili says, "To the jeweler first, to the castle second!"

[ussura] Charles says, "I think it's either for the wedding ring or for something to do with the stone collar."

[ussura] Vasili asks (of Jeweler), "See, there's this awesome girl, and I can't just let her be carried off by that jerk. So what do you have that smashes gemstones?"

[ussura] Raelynn-as-Rowlf says (to gm), "vasili was feeling bad about how she was being carried off, and she stopped to use his name in the message"

[ussura] Raelynn-as-Rowlf says, "so rae told him it was time for a ring and flowers"

[ussura] Raelynn-as-Rowlf says, "and then we learned about how to destroy the collar"

[ussura] Vasili asks, "Ring? What? Where'd you get that idea?"

[ussura] Jeweler says (to Vasili), "Well, different gems have different hardnesses. Some can be smashed by anything hard, some require something harder, like a hammer, and others you have to study and find exactly the right place to hit to get it to crack apart."

[ussura] Raelynn-as-Rowlf says (to vas), "pssy. just buy a diamond"

[ussura] Charles whispers (to Vasili), "If you need it, I know where we can get 5,000 rubles to pay for the hammer."

[ussura] Charles says (to Rae), "I whispered it loudly enough for Pyotr to hear! It's not my fault he's idling."

[ussura] Vasili asks, "Didn't we go through this discussion before, anyway?"

[ussura] Jeweler gives you a sisterly grin. "Dangerous adventure, eh? For the love of an exotic maiden? Count me in! Not enough exciting things happen in this city."

[ussura] Charles says, "With that disguise, they'd probably just lock us up for fraud anyway."

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "sisterly?"

[ussura] GM says, "(yeah, it's a woman)"

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "but is Vasili?"

[ussura] Raelynn says (to gm), "i guess i shouldn't assume everyone is male"
