Fleur claimed to have blooded something of Alexi's, to keep him from escaping. Eventually, a spy-hawk saw them, and the bunch of you followed, and Alexi fooled Marceau into letting him escape, and when you all got back to their camp, they had left. Then a bug appeared and you fought it."

Vasili asks, "Well, assuming nobody's setting back out right this minute, I'll leave the talk to the rest of you. Time to unwind a bit, anyone care to join me for a drink?"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "and boy will they be confused."

Pyotr exclaims (at Vasili), "Excellent plan!"

Raelynn mutters, "drunkards"

Alixandre says, "I would not mind a civilized drink. Marceau's offerings were less than pleasant."

Messenger says (to Raelynn&Era), "My ladies, if you have a moment, the v'Rissanova would like to speak with you."

[ussura] Alixandre says, "I'm going to get a glass of something and then a bar patron will see my pinky extended and want to break it off."

[ussura] GM says, "Heh."

Vasili says (to Alix), "I know just the place to get some Real vodka."

[ussura] Pyotr says (to Alix), "if you sit with Pyotr and Vasili you're fine"

Alixandre says (to Sebastien), "Unless you know of more pressing matters. It has been a long few days, beginning with a rather harrowing Porte trip."

Era asks (of Raelynn), ""Shall we?"

Raelynn says (to Era), "we shall!"

Raelynn follows Era

Era &Raelynn follow the messenger person.

GM says, "So, the men head off to a tavern whilst the women go speak to Tamara."

[ussura] Pyotr says (to GM), "They'd better be jumped by villains or you're sleeping on the couch tonight"

[ussura] GM laughs.

[ussura] Era says, "Wowsa, you know me entirely too well. <grin>"

[Crows-Nest] Alixandre says, "Eli warning: five minutes to bathtime."

Sebastien says, "I don't believe there is anything more pressing than having a drink"

Alixandre says, "Excellent! We can decide what drapes to have in our forthcoming embassy."

[ussura] GM asks, "So, hmm. Tamara is going to talk to them about Sophia's Daughters stuff; would you all rather know what's going on OOC, or not know until they tell you?"

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "are they going to tell us today?"

[ussura] Vasili says, "depends on whether they're going to tell us right away"

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "or is it all need-to-know?"

[ussura] GM says, "Hmm."

[ussura] Era says, "I'm still chortling over the "they better get jumped by villains" line."

[ussura] GM says, "They probably won't tell you everything, but it might make it smoother if you all know; possibly there would be more Intrigue if you didn't."

[ussura] GM says, "If you don't particularly care, I'll go ahead and make it OOC public."

[ussura] Pyotr says, "I am not a huge fan of Intrigue myself, but some people enjoy it"

[ussura] Alixandre says, "For intrigue, please @joinc #vodacce"

[ussura] GM says, "Hee."

[ussura] Vasili says, "I like RP secrets. But I guess it should be up to the ladies."

[ussura] Era says, "I would rather they knew."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "let them know. then we can zip through the "reporting back to the group phase""

[ussura] GM says, "Sounds like a plan."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "also, i am officially playing now"

Messenger leads the two of you to go see Tamara, who greets you and sends away her guards.

[ussura] Vasili asks, "as opposed to just insulting the Ussuran guys?"

Raelynn curtseys awkwardly. "M'lady"

Tamara leads you to a small room, tastefully appointed.

Tamara says, "Thank you for coming. As you may know, I too am a member of Sophia's Daughters."

Era says, "Majesty, I'm so pleased."

Tamara says, "When in Pavtlow, I have been given a task, and I may need your assistance."

Tamara says, "And if something should happen to me, it is better that you know."

Tamara says, "You know that Ketheryna is wife to the Gaius Ilya. She was born in Eisen, and was married to Ilya several years ago."

Tamara says, "Now that she is in Ussura, something unprecedented has happened."

Tamara says, "She has been granted Pyryem."

Raelynn says, "wow"

Era says, "That is truly unheard of. Matushka must have special plans for her."

Tamara says, "The Sophia's Daughters have helped her conceal this fact, by giving her a draught that change her eyes back from their new green color to their natural blue."

Tamara nods.

Raelynn blinks. "Green?"

[ussura] Tamara says, "(whoops 'Pyeryem')"

Raelynn asks, "cat?"

Tamara says (to Raelynn), "All who have Pyeryem have green eyes. It is a part of the gift."

Era says (to raelynn), "All shapechanging gifts granted by Matushka have the sign of brilliant green eyes. Like mine."

Era looks Raelynn in the eye.

[ussura] Tamara also has bright green eyes)

Raelynn says, "I apologize for my ignorance, m'Lady. Please continue"

Tamara says, "Nay, it is no trouble."

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says (to gm), "now i am going to start saving up my XP. I want this magic!"

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says, "oh wait. then i lose my purple eyes? hmm"

[Crows-Nest] Sebastien says, "ha ha"

[Crows-Nest] Sebastien says, "you can still keep the purple eyes .. in a little jar on your desk"

Tamara says, "I am to bring her the next set of draughts. And the Daughters have asked me to recruit her, as well."

[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "Matushka's been nicer to you than most Porte users already, don't push it."

Tamara voice goes flat as she tells you the last.

Raelynn asks (of Tamara), "(hesitantly) is there a problem, m'Lady?"

Tamara catches her voice. "No, it's just... no."

Raelynn looks at Era.

Tamara hurries onward. "As it is vital that she receive her next draughts, I am giving some of them to you."

Tamara turns and opens a drawer, and pulls out three small vials.

Era says (to Tamara), "M'lady, I'm not sure we understand the full depth of the problem yet."

Tamara says, "And if you get the chance to talk to her about the Daughters, perhaps you could persuade her to join."

Tamara says (to Era), "It is nothing profound, but with the war, who knows what might happen? It is always better to have a backup plan."

Raelynn says (to tamara), "if you have any hesitation regarding that, maybe we should be guided by you"

Era says (to Tamaray), ""Clearly it is of some concern that Matushka has gifted her, but Matushka must have her reasons, and will look after her. This is, after all, nearly unprecedented."

Era says (to Tamara), ""Of course, we will see to her, and keep her in our prayers."

Tamara shakes her head and nods to Raelynn. "No, it would be for the best were she to join the Daughters. As you say, Matushka has great plans for her, and are the Daughters not there to protect those in trouble?"

Raelynn looks at the vials. "Do they have to be taken in any special order, or at a certain time...?

Tamara says, "No. She has taken them before and knows how they work. Each vial should be enough to last her for a week."

Era asks (of Tamara), "I had no idea such magic existed, but I suppose it makes sense. I assume her husband is being kept in ignorance, as well?"

Tamara says, "One merely has to drink them."

Tamara shakes her head sadly. "The Gaius Ilya has much to trouble him now. He need not have more."

Era asks (of Tamara), "Let us be off then. Unless you have further instructions?"

Tamara says, "No. Oh, and Raelynn."

Tamara says, "I understand that you have been asking about for someone to teach you Porte."

Tamara says, "I would be wary of Matushka, if I were you."

Tamara says, "But there are rumors that Koshchei the Undying knows of a way to use Porte without the... odd side-effects that accompany the practice."

Tamara shudders involuntarily.

Raelynn says, "I would be careful, but I am realizing how limited my skills are, and how my incompetence has almost hurt my friends."

Tamara nods.

Raelynn asks (of Tamara), "and where can I find Koshchei? in Pvatlow?"

Tamara says, "He is a member of the Douma, and you may meet him in Pavtlow, yes."

Raelynn says, "i will be careful not to anger Matushka"

Era stores the glass vials carefully in her backpack, wrapping them securely.

Tamara says, "I have never known him to be duplicitous in my time on the Douma, but nevertheless, he is... odd. Be careful in dealing with him."

Tamara says, "He has done many things in the last 1,000 years."

Era asks (of Tamara), "It seems you are skilled in potions. Might you have some that heal, or lend certain skills?"

Era thinks for a moment. "Might any prevent Porte skills? That would be most useful in our coming quest.

[Crows-Nest] (from Vasili) Era says, "Got any Eagle's Splendor?"

[Crows-Nest] Alixandre says, "hee hee"

[Crows-Nest] Era asks, "not familiar with that one. what is it?"

Tamara says, "The Daughters do have many potions; do you have need of one for healing? I am not familiar with any that grant skills."

Tamara says, "Hmm, Porte supression."

[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "D&D CHR booster"

[Crows-Nest] Era says, "ah"

Raelynn whispers to Era, "Wow. Keep me away from that potion, if it exists."

Tamara says, "In the market is a man with an item that, he claims, supresses Porte in its vicinity."

Era says, "When last we gave chase, our villains excaped through the use of vile magics. If we can prevent a similar happenstance next time we enounter them, it would be most useful."

Tamara says, "I know not if it is true."

Era says, "Thank you, m'lady. We will go inquire."

GM says, "And with that, assuming you have no more questions, Tamara ushers you out and you rejoin the others, some of whom are already drunk."

[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "roll the dice etc."

Pyotr says, "Wooo, thish ish good vodka, Vas ole buddy."

Vasili asks, "I tole you, or what?"

[ussura] Era says, "and we are yet unscathed by vilains, jumping or otherwise. <grin>"

[ussura] GM exclaims, "Crap!"

Raelynn holds her nose. I will wait outside the tavern while you all finish up here

Pyotr exclaims, "Era! Pull up a barrel and take a sniff of this!"

[ussura] GM says, "Oh, right, she then grows claws and a second head and attacks you."

Alixandre says, "And there were all these, these...*voices*. Telling me to wander in various directions."

Alixandre is speaking very. Deliberately.

Era asks (of Pyotr), ""What is this?"

Sebastien asks, "voices? really?"

Era cautiously takes a whiff.

Sebastien says, "I'd heard something about this in the court, but I had assumed it was all stories"

Pyotr says (to Era), "It'sh the good shtuff."

Era's nose-hairs curl.

Vasili says, "Low's Special."

Raelynn finds a barrel outside and sits down to wait for the others.

Alixandre says, "And you were there! But not you or you."

Pyotr asks (of Alix), "Aww, why idn't you hallucinate about us, huh?"

Sebastien says, "as fanciful as the tales of low-cut muslin hemlines"

[ussura] GM says, "(voices on the other side of a Porte hole are, if not extremely well-known, at least in relatively common rumors)"

Alixandre says, "I have no intention of ever going back."

Alixandre says, "Devoe was lost inside."

Sebastien says, "it does sound quite disturbing"

Sebastien says, "oh dear"

Era says, "Sounds dreadfull."

Sebastien says, "I am not sure how that bodes for our future diplomatic careers"

Era says, "Though possibly less dreadfull, when you are so well pickled."

Sebastien says, "or perhaps it opens up a promotion opportunity"

Alixandre says, "I would step into his place, but his place is lost inside Porte magic."

Alixandre giggles a little bit.

Pyotr exclaims, "Har har!"

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn asks, "hello! i am outside! you are not going to beat me up?"

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says, "tiny little female! unprotected!"

[Crows-Nest] Alixandre says, "hee hee"

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says, "(i was actually saying this aloud. katre thought i should share)"

GM asks (of Raelynn), "Hmm, is that... smoke?"

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Hee."

Raelynn looks up.

Raelynn says, "looks like something is on fire"

Raelynn says, "FIRE!" (shouting)"

Pyotr asks, "Huh?"

Pyotr asks, "You guys hear something outside?"

Alixandre stands. "Fire!" He then sits back down heavily.

Pyotr heads out to investigate.

Pyotr exclaims, "Woosh!"

Raelynn jumps up and down pointing in the direction of the smoke to the bystanders

Sebastien says, "perhaps this is some sort of rustic entertainment"

Pyotr sticks his head in a snowbank for a bit.

Raelynn runs off towards the smoke

Vasili says, "Yeah, look at that. Let's go!"

Pyotr exclaims, "Okay, better now, let's go help!"

Era takes off after Raelynn.

Pyotr runs off to help.

Sebastien says, "come along, Alixandre, it would be churlish of us not to spectate"

[Crows-Nest] Skip says, "everyone knows the 'tiny little female' kicks more ass than the rest of the party put together."

Sebastien grabs a bottle and helps Alixandre to stand up.

GM says, "And indeed, as you head down the street, the smell of smoke gets more and more acrid."

[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says (to jon), "just once! with the knife"

Alixandre says, "We could pour the bottle on the fire."

Pyotr says (to Alix), "That sounds...bad."

[ussura] Era says, "yeah, that would be clever."

Raelynn finds a bucket of water in front of a store and grabs it

Raelynn says, "(this also slows her down)"

Sebastien wrinkles his nose.

Sebastien says, "I am not sure I care for this"

Charles has connected.

[ussura] Raelynn says (to Charles), "FIRE!"

[ussura] Charles asks, "Ahoy. What did I miss?"

[ussura] Vasili says (to Charles), "FIRE!"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "run! run! we are out to put out a fire"

Sebastien says, "it occurs to me now that when we saw a similar species to the corpse Charles insisted on carrying, it ended up exploding"

[ussura] Pyotr exclaims (at Chalres), "the city's in flames! and we don't think it's our fault yet!"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "we went back to town with the bug corpse instead of following Fleur"

GM says, "You turn a corner just in time to see a thick column of smoke coming from several stacked bales of hay burst into flames."

[ussura] Charles says, "Is that a warning or a suggestion? Ah."

[ussura] Sebastien says, "Tamara gave Era and Raelynn a secret mission"

[ussura] Alixandre exclaims, "Sebastien has a new theory that it's our fault!"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "then we were hanging out in a tavern and something caught on fire"

Raelynn tosses the bucket on to the hay.

[ussura] Pyotr says, "damn, spoke too soon"

GM says, "*fwoosh*"

Sebastien says, "hay, it's a fire"

Raelynn says, "well, the water. i hang on to the bucket"

Pyotr exclaims, "Okay, let's form a bucket brigade!"

Raelynn looks around for a pump

Pyotr says, "Wait, we only have one bucket."

[ussura] GM asks, "Yes?"

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "if i use glamor to turn something into water, would it quence the fire?"

Charles looks/listens for anyone trapped behind the flame.

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "or is glamor just an illusion so it won't put it out?"

[ussura] GM exclaims, "Hey, it's charles!"

[ussura] GM says, "That's a good question."

Era looks around for more details.

[ussura] Charles asks, "Is there a water-making glamour?"

[ussura] GM says, "I think it actually turns into the thing you turn it into, though temporarily."

[ussura] Vasili says, "well, you can eat transformed things. But I dunno if it's filling."

[ussura] Charles says (to Vasili), "It destroys the object, so I'm guessing it is."

[ussura] GM says, "However, the list of things you can turn stuff into is theoretically bounded to the list in the book, I believe."

[ussura] Era says, "7th sea encourages the "go with it, and it will probably work" motif, so let's try it."

Sebastien pulls a small piece of bread and cheese from his pack, and applies them to the end of a stick preparatory to toasting it over the flames.

[ussura] Vasili says, "the 'bright light' was probably a climax drama exception"

Alixandre says, "I do not know about you, but I feel toasty already."

[ussura] Era says, "wow, that's taking fopishness to a whole new level of uselessness. very impressive."

[ussura] Vasili asks, "any buildings near the hay?"

[ussura] Raelynn says (to vasili), "i was just wondering how i did the light"

Pyotr looks for a well.

[ussura] Raelynn says, "i know! i will make a pelican! that's a bird"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "ha ha ha"

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "can i turn the bucket into a pelican?"

[ussura] Alixandre exclaims (at Era), "we brought a bottle we can pour on any fire!"

GM says, "The bales of hay seem to have been stacked up against a doorway in the middle of a large stone wall. There are a few other buldings across the way that mostly seem to be deserted at the moment."

[ussura] Charles asks, "How big is this fire? One building? Several? The whole city?"

GM says, "A few other people are milling around, wondering. Someone runs off, claiming he's going to get the guard."

[ussura] Charles asks, "ALso, are we indoors or outdoors?"

[ussura] Vasili says, "even if you can, that still only leaves us with one container"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "(aside, who has the magic pdf's url?)"

Pyotr says, "My daddy always said: When in danger or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout."

Pyotr starts running around yelling "FIRE" at the top of his lungs.

GM says, "You are outdoors right next to the castle. In fact, the wall in question is connected to the castle."

Vasili says, "Hey, somebody set this on purpose."

Vasili says, "Hey, I'll help you get the guards, wait up!"

Raelynn scoops up snow and tosses it onto the fire, she means

GM says, "OK, so Vasili is off to get the guard; the rest of you are either dumping snow/water on it or standing around."

[ussura] Raelynn says (to gm), "also, i just looked at the pdf. It says "possible objects" so it's not limited to those lists."

Charles pulls down a blanket, curtain, or other location-appropriate object and tries to smoether the parts of the fire he can reach.

Pyotr starts shovelling snow.

[ussura] Raelynn says, "but anyway, i will stick with snow, although i was pretty serious about doing the pelican thing"

[ussura] Vasili says, "I'm also watching for the guy who went for the guard in the first place, to make sure that wasn't an excuse to get away from the scene."

[ussura] Era asks, "what did you want to do with the pelican?"

[ussura] GM says, "Yeah, you can pick the bird. The Player's Guide does say, "one of the following items""

[ussura] Sebastien says, "I think we're outside by the castle wall, but I geuss you can scavenge something up from the nearby buildings"

Alixandre makes a few snowballs and throws them at the fire.

Pyotr says, "Here's a plan. Let's grab our gear and the horses and go sleep in the forest tonight"

Sebastien says, "you're just looking for an excuse to do that"

Charles asks (of Pyotr), "Isn't that usually step *two* in your plans?"

Alixandre says, "Right, well, I think we should investigate."

Sebastien looks at the fire more closely as he attempts to toast his bread and cheese.

Sebastien asks, "is this some special exploding fire?"

[ussura] GM says, "The fire is pretty hot, but you seem to be helping put it out a bit."

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "are the booms in the same place, or different?"

Charles says, "I admit there aren't many people here to brawl with first, this time."

Raelynn says (to charles), "well, even pyotr can't use his axe and beat up fire, so he can't do step 1"

[ussura] Vasili says, "I think step one was the screaming 'FIRE' like crazy part."

GM says, "And with the next *boom*, you see the door bulge outwards."

Pyotr says, "Uh oh."

Pyotr dodges to the side.

Sebastien says, "how peculiar"

Raelynn asks, "another porte bulge?"

Pyotr exclaims, "Battering ram!"

GM says (to Raelynn), "No, it looked more like the door was being pushed outwards."

Pyotr exclaims, "Watch out everyone!"

Sebastien says, "perhaps someone inside is trying to escape"

Raelynn asks, "where's the bug?"

Sebastien says, "I hope they don't mind falling into a fire"

Charles says, "Or something inside is exploding."

Sebastien says, "at last a motive for the fire is suggested"

[ussura] Vasili asks, "did I manage to keep the guy who fled in sight?"

Charles exclaims, "They're in there!"

Sebastien asks, "is there snow on the roof we could climb up and conveniently push down on the fire?"

Era looks around for a spear, or shovel, or anything with a long relatively fire-resistant handle.

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "am I the only one thinking "Dreng-related prison break"?"

Raelynn says (to era), "Use Pyotr's axe"

GM says (to Sebastien), "It's just a high wall, like one around a courtyard or something."

Pyotr exclaims (at Raelynn), "Hey!"

Era exclaims (at Pyotr), "Try to pry the bales away from the door!"

Raelynn looks for a place to duck for cover in case these are foe and not friends

Pyotr sighs and tries it anyway.

GM says, "And with one more *boom*, the door swings open"

Pyotr peers into the door. Is there fire inside?

GM says, "No fire inside, no."

Vasili asks, "Hey, what happened here?"

Era uses her furry ears to listen harder.

Charles directs escapees away from the fire.

Sebastien grabs a guy running by.

Pyotr exclaims, "Um, yeah, stay inside guys, it's safer!"

Sebastien asks (of Guy), "what's going on?"

Raelynn asks, "leaping through the fire? is this even real fire?"

GM says (to Era), "'Yay, we made it!' 'Let's go!' 'Ow hot hot!'"

Era grabs one of the runners. "Who are you and what are you doing?!

Guy1 exclaims (at Sebastien), "Uh, I was trapped!"

Guy1 exclaims, "But I made it!"

Era says (to runner), "Where does that door lead? (pointing)"

Charles waits until the doorway is cleared, then heads inside to search for stragglers.

Sebastien asks, "trapped by who?"

Guy1 says, "Er, except that my shirt seems to be on fire."

Guy1 dives into a snowbank.

GM says, "At this point, about six people have come through the door, and more seem to be behind them."

Era glares threateningly at the runner she's grabbed.

Sebastien sighs.

Charles asks, "What were all of you doing in there?"

Sebastien says, "some people have no idea of priorities"

[ussura] Sebastien asks, "do these people look like escaped prisoners? or like servants?"

[ussura] Charles says, "Everyone knows that people always travel in groups of 3-7! Any more than that makes them a brute squad."

[ussura] GM says, "Hee"

[ussura] Vasili says, "perhaps you should make an Etiquette roll."

[ussura] GM says, "More like escaped prisoners."

GM says (to Vasili), "Hey, it's Lashin."

[ussura] Charles asks, "Is this wall the freestanding sort of castle barrier, or the attached-to-a-roof sort of building wall?"

[ussura] GM says, "More freestanding."

Sebastien says, "if this is a prison break, I suppose we should try to prevent them from escaping"

[ussura] Alixandre exclaims, "I am quite good at etiquette!"

Sebastien says, "though I, personally, feel that they will probably make it into the woods and be eaten by wolves"

Vasili says, "Well, looks like they're safe."

Charles scales the remaining hay bales and clambers up on top of the wall, so he can better see what's on the other side.

Guy1 manages to put out his shirt, then runs away.

Alixandre exclaims, "Surely you gentlemen are not prisoners!"

[ussura] GM asks, "Climbing?"

[ussura] Charles says, "Yeah."

Pyotr says, "Eh, if they're in a courtyard, they're not that bad, just kinda bad."

[ussura] Vasili asks, "what is Lashin doing? Or is he Guy1?"

Pyotr says, "I'm not opposed to them trying to live on their wits and those inadequate clothes in the forest in winter."

Charles asks (of Pyotr), "If they joined Dreng, shouldn't that be 'those clothes and their inadequate wits'?"

Lashin recognizes Vasili, yelps, and runs away.

GM says, "Charles scrambles up the wall, heaves himself onto the top, and looks over. On the other side, he recognizes the area where they had met and spoken with Vasili the first time you all met him."

Pyotr says (to Charles), "Heh"

[ussura] Charles asks, "How's the fire look on this side?"

GM says, "At this point, about eight people have made it through and have run off, while more are coming."

[ussura] Charles asks, "Are the people inside in any real danger?"

[ussura] GM says, "There was no fire on the inside, it seems to have started with the hay bales."

[ussura] Vasili asks, "do I know why he'd want to run away, other than the chance of being recognized in return?"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "I suppose there may be some guards in danger inside"

Pyotr says, "Okay, so we should block the door, I guess."

[ussura] Sebastien asks, "because he's escaping?"

Pyotr looks around for barrels or a cart or something.

Sebastien says, "I thought you just said we should let them run into the woods"

GM says (to Pyotr), "Hey, an apple cart."

[ussura] Charles asks (of GM), "So the fire only exists in the doorway itself?"

Sebastien says, "it is quite hard to follow your train of thought"

[ussura] GM says (to Charles), "Right."

Charles drops down into the courtyard, right in front of the door.

Pyotr exclaims, "Help me push this!"

Charles exclaims, "Back! Back! Away from the fire!"

Pyotr starts pushing the apple cart to the doorway.

Pyotr exclaims (at Charles), "I'm blocking this now! You might want to come out before I trap you inside with the very unhappy people!"

Pressing_hordes exclaims (at Charles), "Are you crazy? out of the way!"

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "roll what, STrength?"

[ussura] GM says, "Sure."

[ussura] Pyotr says, "er, Brawn"

[ussura] GM says, "Er, 'Brawn'."

[ussura] Pyotr says, "wrong game"

[ussura] GM says, "Heh."

Alixandre says, "This is most unusual."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "smelly drunk mountain man"

[ussura] GM asks (of Charles), "Are you trying to persuade them to stop?"

Pyotr gets behind the cart, spits on his palms, leans in and gives a heave! With a creak, the cart starts to move and quickly picks up steam.

[ussura] GM says, "You could try Oratory or the like."

Pyotr crashes his cart into the doorway, knocking the smoldering hay bales into the courtyard and blocking the door entirely.

Pyotr says, "Mmm, apple."

Pyotr grabs and apple and munch munch.

[ussura] Alixandre says, "I'd be happy to try."

Charles says (to Hordes), "Will you stand your ground like men, or flee like rats? Show some honor, and perhaps Tamara v'Rissanova will have mercy on your sorry hides."

[ussura] GM says, "Hee"

[ussura] GM asks (of Charles), "Do you still have 3 in everything?"

[ussura] Charles says, "Except Resolve."

Pyotr starts blocking the cart's wheels.

Pressing_hordes waver, and many of them stop. The rest of them surge past, and try to push past the cart.

[ussura] GM says, "The few people that have made it through are all running away at this point."

Vasili says, "Wonder who's behind all this."

[ussura] Alixandre asks, "okay, a recap: these are the dregs of dreng's army trying to escape?"

[Crows-Nest] Pyotr exclaims, "stronger than many rioting prisoners, it's... Pyotr!"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "it seems like it, yeah"

[ussura] Alixandre says, "yeah, I'm not sure I care enough to try to stop them"

Vasili asks, "Should we go find out, or just let Tamara ask the ones who are stuck?"

Charles asks, "Whose stillborn plan was this? What traitor among you set the fire?"

abashed_man says, "Uh, I dunno. Someone just told me we were gettin' out today."

Sebastien says, "well, on the whole they appear to have been incorrect"

Charles asks, "Is he here now?"

abashed_man says, "The guy what told me? Er..."

abashed_man looks around.

Vasili tails one of the last escapers to split the scene, curious where he's actually going to go.

abashed_man says, "Don't see 'im. He was probably in the front, I guess."

GM says, "And with that, you stop the attempted prison break, and when the guards arrive they are suitably impressed with your applecart solution."

Raelynn says, "give Pyotr a medal. We got to get to Pvatlow"

GM says (to Vasili), "Roll something appropriate."

Charles says (to abashed), "If you can help us track him down, then you will be remembeered favorably to your keepers here."

GM says (to Vasili), "The guy you're following has no idea you're after him, and eventually holes up in a tavern on the outskirts of town."

GM tosses a drama die to Charles for his leap.

[ussura] Era says, "poor fool hiding in a tavern - he won't know what hit him."

Alixandre says, "A wonderful idea, that applecart. I'll drink to such a good plan."

Raelynn asks, "another tavern?"

GM says, "And, hey, another drama die for the apple cart."

Pyotr exclaims (at Alix), "This calls for scrapple!"

Vasili wanders in. He hanging out in the common area, trying to get a room?

[ussura] Era says, "the apple cart has no use for a drama die."

[ussura] Charles says (to Era), "It is actually using a little-known varient of pyeryem."

GM says (to Vasili), "You see him talk to a few people, and eventually settle down to talk with a travelling merchant-type person."

[ussura] GM says, "Hee"

[ussura] GM says, "(for Pyotr, natch)"

[ussura] Charles says, "Which empowers its sorcerers to transform into such things as carts, wagons, and horse-drawn carriages. Thereby to eternally battle the evil Decepticons."

[ussura] Vasili says, "ha ha"

[ussura] Era exclaims, "ha!!"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "yay"

Vasili . o O ( hm, this one has some brains after all )

Pyotr says, "But before we drink"

GM says (to Vasili), "You sneak close enough that you eventually work out that he's agreed to be a guard for the merchant's caravan."

Pyotr says, "Someone started this fire."

Era asks (of Pyotr), "Why say you?"

Pyotr looks for footprints that don't belong to this group, or the guards, or the escaped prisoners.

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "Wits+Tracking?"

Charles gathers all the information he can from abashed before returning to the group and sharing.

[ussura] GM says, "That'd be pretty hard; say a TN 30."

[ussura] GM says, "Yeah."

Pyotr says, "Drat, too much happened, I can't see anything."

Pyotr says (to Era), "Well, I doubt they set fire to the outside of the door from inside."

Alixandre asks, "So who wanted to escape so badly?"

Sebastien says, "well, the most logical candidate would be someone in Dreng's bunch wanting to retrieve his army"

Pyotr asks, "Maybe someone just needed an army again?"

Sebastien says, "though you'd think he could gather a similar rag-tag bunch of ruffians anywhere"

Pyotr says, "I imagine all the local ruffians were in there"

Pyotr says, "now, of course, all the local ruffians less a dozen or so are in there"

Charles says, "Presumably whoever spread the word of the break was in contact with the outside, so he may be more than a mere roughian."

GM says (to Charles), "You eventually work out that the door was an old one that was well rusted shut, and someone apparantly bribed a guy to start the fire and try to help everyone escape."

Pyotr says, "Oh, and us."

[Crows-Nest] GM says, "A guy from the Isle of Rough"

[Crows-Nest] Charles says, "Er, whoops."

[ussura] GM asks, "Anyway, we can abandon this bit if you all don't care that much. Want to plan your travel to Pavtlow and take it from there next week?"

Era hunts around the charred bales looking for the incendiary device.

[ussura] Era says, "or what the GM said."

[ussura] Pyotr says, "sounds good to me, but Vasili seems to be collecting info"

[ussura] Alixandre says, "sure"

[ussura] Charles says, "This seems like the sort of plot thread that should be abandoned for now, only to have it later become significant foreshadowing for stuff that hasn't happened yet."

[ussura] Alixandre says, "Oh: I will be en route to vacationing next Saturday"

[ussura] Charles says, "So I favor that."

[ussura] Alixandre exclaims, "so meat shield time for me!"

[ussura] Vasili says, "nah, I'm kind of stumped. Could scare this guy a bit, but doesn't sound like we'd find out much more."

Vasili finds his way back to the group.

Vasili says, "Well, the guy I tailed is smart enough to actually survive a while longer. Not sure if we should turn him in, don't even know what he was in for."

Pyotr says, "Okay, anyway, scrapple time"

Vasili says, "hey, now we're talking"

Sebastien says, "I think I'll stick to the bread and cheese"

[ussura] Era asks, "what's with the references to scrapple? aside from being a poor substitute for hotdog meat, what is it?"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "I believe it is a popular ussuran board game"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "unles I'm misremembering, it's fermented apple juice that is then freeze-distilled"

[ussura] Alixandre says, "it's a popular ussuran drink made from meat-squeezins"

[ussura] Alixandre asks (of Pyotr), "scumble, surely?"

[ussura] Vasili says, "or scorched apples, which we now have plenty of"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "ie, you leave a bucket out every night and take the ice off the top, thus concentrating the alcohol"

[ussura] Charles says, "Yeah, given that Pyotr was the one advocating it, it seemed it had to be alcoholic."

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "people focus. are we strategizing on our trip or getting drunk?"

[ussura] Alixandre exclaims, "yes!"

[ussura] Vasili says (to Raelynn), "It'll be more fun if we do both at once."

[ussura] Pyotr says (to GM), "which route is more likely to get us in a fight? we'll take that"

[ussura] GM says, "One route goes more northernly. It would go through/near the Kosar area, and also through Molhyna. Molhyna is ruled by a crazy dude who is all oppressive."

[ussura] Charles asks (of GM), "Oh, hey, did I do any research into that bug yet?"

[ussura] Alixandre says, "oho"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "that sounds promising"

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "are both routes horse-accessible?"

[ussura] Vasili says (to Charles), "we gave bot-you time to take it to a taxidermist or alchemist or whatever you thought appropriate."

[ussura] GM says, "One goes more through the center of the country, through Veche. Veche is also ruled by a crazy dude who is more reclusive. He's obsessed with clockwork stuff from Crescent."

[ussura] Sebastien says, "hmm"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "clearly, Ussura has a monopoly on crazy dudes"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "it's all that snow, i tell ya"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "I guess if we went that way we could show him the crescent thing we have"

[ussura] Alixandre says, "Montaigne has bunches of them as well"

[ussura] Sebastien asks, "or is it not a crescent thing?"

[ussura] GM says, "IIRC, it had Cathayan writing on it."

[ussura] Sebastien says, "oh yeah, I guess those aren't the same"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "but maybe that's a negative"

[ussura] Charles says, "Seems more likely to have wacky scholars who know weird and unlikely stories about strange creatures from beyond."

[ussura] Alixandre says, "I vote Kosar for extra Fleur"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "I vote for whichever I wasn't most recently under an arrest warrant in"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "ha ha"

[ussura] GM says, "Hee."

[ussura] GM says, "Veche is closer to Somojez (the southernmost province), which is where you were under an arrest warrant."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "i vote west"

[ussura] Charles says (to Pyotr), "I think that just leaves one small village in southern Castille and parts of the Midnight Archipelago."

[ussura] Pyotr says (to Charles), "I'm always welcome on the Seventh Sea"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "we get to spend more time in the mountains if we go west, if i look at the map right"

[ussura] Sebastien asks, "wait, and that's good?"

[ussura] Vasili says, "as long as a freak snowstorm doesn't force us under the mountains"

Charles meanwhile tries to recap what he discovered in his research while he wasn't here.

[ussura] Charles says (to Vasili), "Heh."

Charles probably tried to find whatever the Ussura equivalent of a court bard would be, to see if there were any stories about this kind of thing.

GM says (to Charles), "With some inquiries, you eventually find a man who seems appropriate to talk to."

Zachare is an older, wizened man, who agrees to meet with Charles over ale.

Charles asks (of Man), "Have you ever heard of a creture who looks like <description>? Or of a monster than can change its form, to look like a person?"

Zachare says, "Hmm."

[ussura] Raelynn says (to charles), "psst. in your pocket is a sketch i made of the bug, from memory"

[ussura] Vasili asks, "why trust memory when we have a nasty oozing corpse?"

Zachare says, "There are stories--usually quickly supressed, mind you--of discoveries of odd carapaces, often found buried under the earth, uncovered as people dig a foundation for their houses, or the like."

Zachare exclaims, "I once heard a tale from a man who crossed the Volgra Pass one winter, who claimed to have seen a hideous bug-beast, entirely encased in a block of ice!"

Charles asks, "Really. Is the man in this city?"

Zachare says, "If any place could be said to be the source of these tales, it would be of Mount Ostrog, in the Gora Sorivdgrastov."

[ussura] Charles asks, "Have I heard of that?"

Zachare says, "Enh? Nah, I heard him tell the tale in a port town in Somojez."

[ussura] Charles asks, "Is it, perhaps, in Veche?"

[ussura] Zachare asks, "The mountain in particular?"

[ussura] Charles says, "Gora Sorivdgrastov."

[ussura] Charles says, "Or Ostrog, I suppose."

[ussura] Vasili says, "that's the mountain range along our west route"

[ussura] Charles says, "Excellent."

[ussura] Zachare says, "That's the mountain range... right."

Charles asks, "Do you know of anyone in particular near Mount Ostrog who would know about these things?"

Zachare says, "Hmm."

[Crows-Nest] Vasili asks, "Now, how would you like a tale about *living* bug creatures? And would you believe I can offer you two tales for the price of one?"

Zachare says, "The mountain itself is the tallest mountain in the middle of a range that's high to begin with--nobody lives for miles around it. We love winter, but we don't love *that* much snow."

Zachare says, "But there is a village along the route that goes through the pass; Kuniew, which is probably where one might collect the majority of the tales that come from that mountain."

Charles makes a note of all this.

Charles says, "Thank you. You've been very helpful."

Zachare says, "To be sure, to be sure."

[ussura] Charles says, "What's the polite way to ask 'And do you have a mysterious warning to impart before I go?'"

[ussura] Zachare says, "Hee hee"

Charles makes sure to pay for Zachare's drink and dinner.

[ussura] Sebastien says, "ha ha"

Zachare says, "But take my advice--stay far away from Mount Ostrog! Matushka deems it to be sacred, and none may approach without risking her wrath."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "*toldja* we want to go through the mountains"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "hooray"

[ussura] Charles says, "So, it seems my vote is certain here."

[ussura] Vasili says, "Fine here. I initially thought north seemed more logical, but Vasili's not much on logic."

[ussura] GM says, "Hee"

[ussura] Pyotr says, "Mountains are fine with me"

[ussura] Alixandre says, "sure"

[ussura] GM says, "Alrighty, then, I'll have something for you all to do in Veche next week, then."

[ussura] Charles says, "Cool."

[ussura] GM says, "Oh, there was one thing I was thinking of for Raelynn if you have a couple minutes left."

[ussura] Charles says, "And Era will be happy if we get to fight more bugs."

[ussura] Vasili says, "as long as she remembers not to be a wolf"

[ussura] Era says, "actually, Era is going to bed. Sorry I haven't been involved much tonight. I'm a bit spent, from coordinating and throwing a certain 6-year old's birthdy party today."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "sure"

[ussura] GM says, "And doing a fine job, I might add."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "i have questions too"

[ussura] Vasili says, "(Six? Wow.)"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "oh! happy birthday!"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "(to the boy)"

[ussura] Alixandre exclaims, "happy birthday! also: six? eek!"

John_MacDuff asks (of Raelynn), "Och! So, they tell me you wish to learn more of the Glamour?"

Raelynn says, "Tamara mentioned she might be able to find me a teacher."

Raelynn asks, "Are you familiar with the arts?"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "ha ha ha"

John_MacDuff exclaims, "Familiar! I'm more than passin' familiar, I be a right sorceror!"

[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "'Aye, 'tain't nothin' better than good opera... but I digress.'"

John_MacDuff says, "Tamara gave me a job to do, and thought you might want to come along for the ride."

Raelynn says, "Mr. MacDuff, I will be mightly obliged for anything you can teach me"

Raelynn says, "I do I do"

Raelynn hops up and down like the giddy teen she is

John_MacDuff takes you with him into the castle, back to Tamara's room, shaking his head.

[ussura] Raelynn says, "it turns out i screwed up the XP-allocation at the beginning for my magic"

Raelynn gets in sling, and looks really really nervous

Raelynn tests how secure it is by bouncing a little

GM says, "It seems fine; there are a few swarthy-looking guys who are taking up positions to hold the ropes."

[ussura] GM asks, "That right; hmm, you wanted to learn a new one?"

[ussura] Vasili says, "wonder if this guy knows she also does Porte."

[ussura] GM says, "Oh, hunh."

[ussura] GM says, "So did you know which one you wanted to add instead."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "i want to add robin goodfellow"

[ussura] GM asks, "Is that from the PG?"

[ussura] Charles says, "Yeah."

[ussura] GM says, "I would say that speaking with a sea-based creature would include a fish."

Raelynn stifles the urge to close her eyes and pays attention

[ussura] GM says, "The ussurans already get to talk to woodland animals, after all."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "oh goody. i wasn't sure if you would differentiate between freshwater and saltwater creatures"

John_MacDuff says, "Now, lassie, when a Porte mage makes a hole, if ye know of the Glamour, ye can feel where it was. See, like... oh, my."

Raelynn looks curiously at where MacDuff's hand is.

[ussura] Vasili says, "wait, of course this guy knows what she can do"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "ha ha"

John_MacDuff shakes his head. "This is no ordinary hole. Much stronger than normal."

John_MacDuff says, "See? Feel right there."

Raelynn puts hand where he indicates

Raelynn asks, "so someone with more power? or is it because of the object she used having power in its own right?"

GM says, "And indeed, if you close your eyes, you can feel something like a rough edge in the middle of space."

John_MacDuff says, "Ah, she had an object? That might explain it, I guess."

[ussura] GM says (to Raelynn), "Roll, hmm, one of your Porte knacks plus Panache."

Raelynn says, "we know she is carrying some kind of an artifact. I don't know if she is using it to make her holes, but the artifact seems to be a big deal"

John_MacDuff nods.

[ussura] Raelynn asks, "the new porte or the old?"

[ussura] Vasili says, "I thought we did know that."

[ussura] GM says, "The old."

[ussura] John_MacDuff says, "Yeah, you're pretty sure she's using a knife to help open the holes."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "i meant i don't know if the artifact happens to be a knife"

[ussura] Raelynn asks (of gm), "okay, what do i keep?"

[ussura] GM says, "Though you can use one of the old ones you've upped if you want."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "my rolls suck"

GM says (to Raelynn), "As you feel around the edge, your fingernail catches, and you get a sense--just a sense, mind you--of what it would be like to tear open such a hole yourself."

Raelynn catches her breath

Raelynn says, "wow."

Raelynn says, "that's power."

John_MacDuff says, "At any rate, if ye perform Glamour, it'll help heal the rift. So, here's a great place to teach you--as ye learn, ye'll help the rift to close."

GM says, "<training montage>"

[ussura] Charles says (to Raelynn), "You were asleep at the time, but I believe I watched her using the knife."

Raelynn pays attention

[ussura] Charles says (to Raelynn), "Feel free to assume I mentioned it if you wish."

[ussura] GM says, "The other thing was that at the end of the last campaign, Devoe tossed her the knife, Fleur grinned, and jumped out the window, then ripped open the hole by slashing with her knife."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "oh right"

[ussura] GM says, "And, Era's brother probably also heard the story."

[ussura] GM says, "Alright, any other questions for MacDuff? We'll say he can teach you the new knacks you wanted to learn."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "that's it"

GM says, "And at the end of the lesson, you feel again, and the edge is much softer, and has almost disappeared entirely."

[ussura] GM exclaims, "Okeedokee. Thanks all, and I'll see you next week!"

[ussura] Raelynn says, "the idea of learning archery magic while hanging from a sling midair is funny'"

[ussura] GM grins.

Raelynn says, "thankee macduff!"

[ussura] GM asks, "You think that's bad, what about talking with fish?"

[ussura] GM says, "They have to lower a fishbowl with you."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "hooray i know lots and lots of magic now"

[ussura] GM says, "If there's nothing else, I'll go ahead and close the log."

[ussura] Raelynn says, "that's it"
