Charles asks, "I forget; do we know where exactly the army is, or are we just hoping to run into them?"

Sebastien says, "I believe we had some directions -- but a large army camp is hard to miss"
Fang arrives, looking for booty.
Vasili says, "We can't really miss them. But then there's making our way to HQ, I guess."
GM says, "They are down this road, but yeah."
Pyotr says, "Yeah, we can just keep going until their sentries grab us, really."
Era says, "We should be able to see the dust rising from their marching when they move, assuming they are on the move."
Charles says, "Or the steam rising up, if they are bathing."
Sebastien rechecks his Montaignese and Ussuran paperwork
Vasili says, "Well, it's a good thing we ... oh! oh no!"
GM says, "What with the wolf episode, it took you a bit longer last time than it might have, so you camp out overnight, still several hours away from the army."
Vasili says, "I'm doomed!"
Charles says, "A popular hobby among the Montaigns, I gather."
Sebastien asks, "you're doomed?"
Charles says (to Vasili), "I'm sure they won't force you to bathe with thme."

Sebastien says, "if only it were more popular elsewhere"
Vasili says, "I just remembered. Matushka said she knew just the girl... I'm not ready to get married!"

Pyotr asks, "Good idea. Did we bring a wineskin?"

Vasili says, "So let's go find that hostile army."

Era stretches out some kinks in her back.
Sebastien whistles and rides on unconcernedly
[ussura] GM says, "At this point, you're just aware that there's been a consistent rustle in the woods to the side of the road a bit behind you and to the east."
[ussura] Pyotr asks, "we're heading...south? north?"
[ussura] GM says, "Southwestish, yeah."
[ussura] Pyotr says, "okay"
Pyotr stops, turns toward the woods, and cries out, "Hello, neighbors!"
Vasili asks, "Oh, we've been found?"
Charles says, "Or else Pyotr's talking to the squirrels."

Era pulls up her horse, and looks where Pyotr's facing.
Sebastien pulls up also.
Sebastien asks (of Pyotr), "is someone there?"
[Crows-Nest] Fang says, "A very scared looking hedgehog emerges"
Vasili says (to Charles), "Usually that's Era's job."
Charles says (to Vasili), "Some day, remind me to tell you about Sivka."
Pyotr says, "Hmm, thought there was someone there."
Pyotr says, "Maybe just an overactive imagination."
Era asks (of Pyotr), "What did you hear?"
Charles says (to Pyotr), "Maybe this is a good time to stop for a rest."
Charles says, "You can practice your axe throwing."
Pyotr says, "Let's keep going, and WHEN OUR DIPLOMATIC MISSION TALKS TO MONTEGUE we can mention it."
Charles says, "That bush would make a good target -- seeing as there's nobody there, after all."

Pyotr says (to Charles), "But we're too busy being a DIPLOMATIC MISSION FROM THE KNIAS to stop for axe practice."

Charles says, "You know, I almost remember there being two diplomats at one point."
Era asks, "Please note the sarcasm in my last sentance. Shall we take our diplomatic non-violent selves on down the road, or did you want to investigate the uniinhabited bush further?"
Pyotr rides on after Sebastien.
Sebastien says, "oh, I'm sure this mission will turn into an altercation eventually"
Charles says, "We should probably keep moving. I can't remember the last time I saw Pyotr turn down the opportunity to use his axe in favor of being diplomatic."
Sebastien says, "we might as well get to our destination first, though"
GM says, "Now that you've been made aware of it, you continue on your way, every so often all of you now hear a [rustle rustle] behind you again."
Era says (to Charles), "There was that time when he hid in a tree all night to avoid some nosy folks who seemed to be following us."
Pyotr says, "That was a scratchy bed."
[ussura] GM says, "If you want to continue to ignore the rustling, I'll skip ahead to when something else happens."
Charles raises a finger to his lips, then stealthily slips from his horse and ducks behind the foliage, to wait for their followers to pass.

Vasili asks, "Am I imagining things? How easy is it to keep up with trotting horses while hiding in the forest?"

Charles follows the rustling noise.
Sebastien says, "hmm, perhaps we can arrange to stay overnight at the camp"

Sebastien says, "I am sure for the common soldiers the accomodation will be not so fine, but for diplomats such as ourselves I forsee a hot bath and fine dining"
Vasili says, "I would hope so. But yeah, there's always the flee like crazy option."
GM says (to Charles), "You still don't see anything, but from what you can hear, it's something small, never making sounds more than a foot or so from the ground."
Vasili says, "er, to the staying, not the bathing."

[ussura] Era asks, "badgers?"
[ussura] GM says (to Era), "That size-ish."

Sebastien slides down from his horse.
Vasili dismounts and gets out a bit of jerky and vodka.
GM says (to Charles), "When everyone else stops, the rustling stops too."

Pyotr looks around, trying to see where Charles went?

Charles's jaw drops.

GM says, "Then it seems to notice you, and darts off deeper into the woods, where the rustling stops again."

Charles can't hold his laughter in any longer. He's quite audible to anyone or anything near.

GM says, "And with that, you continue on, the occasional [rustle] still behind you."

Era says, "Well, shall we ride on then? Its good to know we're being watched-out for."
GM asks, "And a bit after that, there's... another rustle?"
[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "She's smaller than I expected."
GM says, "no, more of a crashing. And from in front of you."

Pyotr says, "Let's wait and see what this is."
Sebastien asks, "is something coming towards us?"

GM says, "Something coming towards the road, yes."
Era slows her horse.

Vasili asks, "Right, so who had the white flag?"

Sebastien says, "naturally I have my handkerchief"
Vasili says, "Great! You get to go first."
Efrem stumbles out of the woods onto the road. He's a young Ussuran man, clothes badly torn, and he's bleeding from a wound in his arm and another in his leg. He's carrying a hefty sword he seems to be using to cut his way through the underbrush.
Sebastien is searching his traveling-case for a handkerchief to convey the appropriate mood
Pyotr asks, "Hello neighbor. Everything okay?"
Sebastien says, "we surr-- wait a minute"
Efrem sees the Montaignians and his eyes widen in fear. "No!"
GM says, "Then he sees Era."
Vasili says, "hang on, it's okay"
Charles says, "Don't worry; we're a diplomatic convoy."
Efrem exclaims, "Era!"
Era asks, "Efrem?"
Efrem says, "Help me! Montaignians, following us..."
GM says, "(And with that, two other Ussurans emerge from the woods behind him.)"
Sebastien says, "no, no, I'm pretty sure they're Ussurans"
Pyotr says (to Sebastien), "I think diplomacy might be the thing here."
[ussura] Era exclaims, "other people in this party need big families too. I love my brothers, but we bump into them all the time!"

Efrem looks around in confusion. "No, not them. These are all that's left of my squad."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "I have three charming younger sisters but they're all in Montaigne, so naturally we cannot run into them"
Vasili says, "well, we might be able to keep you safe. But we're heading right for the army."
[ussura] GM says, "You do? hRMM..."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "well, I do *now*"
Pyotr says, "Well, we want to meet Montaignians, and some are coming, get out that handkercheif."
[ussura] GM says, "Ha ha yay"
[ussura] (from Vasili) Vasili says, "Hey, don't go pointing out charming young ladies to the GM."

Charles asks, "Are you attempting to disguise our friends here as Montaigne diplomats?"

Vasili asks, "Or is dress-up just the thing you Montaigne do in a war zone?"

Efrem's cohorts gladly don the donated cloaks.

Efrem puts his hands to his face in surprise.
Sebastien asks, "well, shall we ride on?"
[Crows-Nest] Fang says, "I think you'd better put your hands to your crotch instead"
Pyotr exclaims, "Oh, their poor beards!"
[ussura] GM says, "Nah, he's more worried about his beard."
Sebastien says, "really? but this "soul patch" is the latest thing in Montaigne, I am assured"
Efrem says (to cohorts), "You two, hold their reins."
GM says, "And just as you get arranged and moving forward again..."
Philippe bursts through the underbrush onto the road, and draws himself up in surprise.
[Crows-Nest] Pyotr says, "okay, I cannoy imagine anyone named Philippe who is not a young otter, sorry"
[Crows-Nest] Pyotr says, "cannot"
[Crows-Nest] Sebastien says, "hee hee"
Pyotr asks, "Hello! Are you the one they're sending to meet us?"
Philippe is a tall, proud-looking Montaignian, brandishing a rapier.
[Crows-Nest] Charles asks, "You think it was really *him* in the woods, then?"
Philippe asks, "Enh? What is this? Who are you?"
Sebastien says, "why, a diplomatic envoy, of course"
Charles says, "We're the diplomatic party."
Philippe's entourage emerges from behind him, a group of teenaged Montaignian soldiers.
Sebastien says, "I am sure you will find our papers in order"
Philippe blinks, but moves forward and reviews Sebastien's papers.
Philippe says, "Er..."
[Crows-Nest] Era asks, "A young otter?"
Philippe hands the papers to one of his cohorts. "You can read, can't you?"

Sebastien sighs and shakes his head.
Philippe's cohort steps forward, looks at the papers, shrugs, and nods.
Sebastien says, "what *are* they teaching you in the officers' training corps these days"
Philippe's eyes narrow. "How to fight. If you care for a demonstration..."
[ussura] Vasili asks, "Is this all in Ussuran?"
Pyotr says (to Philippe), "You must be tired of not being in the stockade if you want to fight a diplomat."
[ussura] GM says, "Hmm. Good point! No, this would be in Montaignian."
Sebastien says, "I would be happy to oblige you at some later date of your choosing, young man, but for right now I have business at your camp to attend to"

Era doesn't speak montaigne, so only follows the tone of the conversation.
Efrem looks abashed, mumbles.
Sebastien says, "the finest linen-folder in Charouse and this is what he's become"
Philippe says, "It just takes discipline, is all. Ask Geraud about it; I've whipped him into a fine soldier, entirely in this Theus-forsaken country. Not a minute of military practice before now."
Philippe exclaims, "Onward, men!"
Philippe leads his group down the road, looking for signs of Efrem & co.
Sebastien says, "well, that went about as well as could be expected"
Sebastien says, "on we go"
Geraud says, "Er, it's... well, it's along the road. As I'm sure you knew, but..."
Geraud shrugs.
Geraud leads you on down the road.
Sebastien listens for the rustling again once Geraud leads on.
GM says (to Sebastien), "It takes about 10 minutes, but you do hear the [rustle rustle] again, perhaps a bit further from the road than before."
GM says, "Maybe 20 minutes or so further on, Emet stumbles, and has to steady himself by putting his hand on Era's horse."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "(Efrem?)"
[ussura] GM says, "Whoops, right."
Era leans down to give Efrem a hand.
Era asks (of Efrem(sotto), "voce) Are you feeling okay?"
Efrem says (to Era), "I'll be fine, I'm fine, no problem, erk ow"
[ussura] Sebastien says, "ha ha"
[ussura] Sebastien says, "I guess I forgot he was, you know, bleeding"
Vasili says, "Maybe you should ride. I'll walk."
Era asks (of Efrem(sotto_vocce)), "Liar. Where are you injured? Do you need to sneak off?"
Era eyes Gerard, still 'leading' the group to the army.
Efrem says (to Era), "Where would I go? I'd only meet Philippe coming back, and we're getting closer to that infernal army."
Efrem asks (of Vasili), "If... if you don't think he'd notice?"
Efrem nods towards Geraud.
Vasili asks, "What's he going to do about it?"
Efrem asks, "...tell?"
Pyotr says, "Okay, time to swap horses, retainers."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "(I can't think of an excuse for you guys to -- ah, good"
Vasili says, "yessir"
Pyotr says (to Geraud), "I don't know why, but we came up three short on horses back in the city."
Vasili dismounts
Pyotr dismounts, and gestures for another of Efrem's friends to mount up.
[ussura] GM asks (of Pyotr), "Are you speaking Ussuran?"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "yes, actually"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "I think that'll be far more confusing for them"
Era dismounts, and discreetly aids Efrem in mounting the horse.
Geraud says (to Pyotr), "(in half-broken Ussuran) "Er, OK.""
Sebastien says, "(in Montaigne) I'm afraid Alixandre and I have acquired rather a mixed set of companions"
Sebastien says, "but then diplomacy generally requires interacting with all sorts of people"
Geraud sees Era dismount, and looks like he's about to offer his own horse, when he realizes he doesn't have one, and ends up shrugging in frustration.
Geraud says (to Sebastien), "Heh, sure looks like it."
GM tosses a drama die to Sebastien and Pyotr while he's thinking about it.
[ussura] Sebastien says, "yay"
Era [trudge trudge trudge]
GM says, "And with that, Efrem seems to survive the rest of the trip, until start hearing army-sounding noises from in front of you."
GM says, "And, as you round a bend, you see a hastily-constructed station where two Montaignians stand at the alert. They blink in unison, look at each other, then look back at you."
Geraud asks, "Hey, do either of you read?"
Luc asks, "I do. Who are you guys?"
Sebastien says, "diplomats, here to speak to Montegue"
Geraud says, "I'm with Phillippe's group, but we found these guys on the road. Say they're... right."
Luc says, "Oh, well. Hunh."
Luc steps forward to take your papers.
[ussura] GM says, "You know, when there's no combat, you can really breeze through the encounters."
Raelynn says (to luc), "(chattily) long way from home, aren't you? Where are you from? I am from Charouse"
Luc's eyes light up.
Luc says, "Charouse, you say? Far from me, I grew up on the coast."
Luc looks over the papers.
Raelynn says, "oh, how wonderful. I always wondered what it would be like to always be able to see and hear the ocean."
Raelynn says, "holidays were never long enough"
Luc sighs. "I do miss it, sometimes."
[ussura] Raelynn asks, "is there a way to chat enough that he doesn't really look too much at the papers?"
Luc says, "Of course, we were near the ocean long enough on the way here."
[ussura] Vasili says, "but those are darn good papers."
[ussura] GM asks, "Sure. Do you want to roll for it, or just rp?"
[ussura] Raelynn says (to vasili), "but they don't explain why we have more attendants than diplomats"
[ussura] Raelynn says, "unless this is the norm with montaigne"
[ussura] GM says, "Heh."
[ussura] GM says, "The extra three do indeed make things more odd."
[ussura] GM says, "And you're noticing Efrem's starting to bleed through his cloak."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "one for handkerchiefs, one chef, two to carry the bathwater, one to heat it"
[ussura] Sebastien asks, "nobody has any kind of surgeon skill, do they?"
Raelynn asks, "oh, the ocean voyage! surely this wasn't *your* first voyage?"
Raelynn says, "i was sick for the entire voyage. mal de mer, you know"

Luc says, "Oh, no, ma'am, my dad was a merchant, worked with the ships a lot."
[ussura] Charles says, "I bet someone in camp does."
Raelynn says, "oh la, then this must have been a stroll in the park for you"
[ussura] Charles says, "If you can come up with a good excuse for why your attendant looks like he was cut apart by Montaigne soldiers."

Luc shudders. "Never seen storms like they have here back in Montaigne."

[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "you're just feeling the Montaigne"

Luc says, "Like the wind was trying to blow us back home."
Luc says, "Or kill us, didn't care which."
Raelynn says, "this country has odd weather"
Luc says, "I'm amazed we survived. Only reason we did was from the captaining of LaVache. Man's a master, I tell you."
Raelynn says, "why, i could've sworn the snowstorms would do anything to bury people alive in this country"
Charles asks, "LaVache, you say?"
[ussura] Sebastien says, "ha ha ha"
[ussura] Sebastien says, "awesome"
Luc says, "Once we hit land, that was true."
Charles says, "I've heard that name once or twice."
Luc says (to Charles), "Yes! A true hero, and a patriot."
Luc says, "Not surprised you've heard of 'im."

Luc says, "Well, these seem to be in order."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "hee hee"
Vasili says (to Pyotr), "Aren't we going anywhere? I guess they have a lot of chatting to do with their countrymen."
Luc says, "I'll have to arrange for your meeting; Montegue's very busy, of course."
Charles asks, "Yes, there are a few stories floating around about him... Where's the old man stationed these days?"
Pyotr says (to Vasili), "Let's go wait over there in the very deep shade by that tree."
Luc says, "Well, he's stayed with the ships, obviously."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "hmm"
Era says (to Pyotr), "Excellent idea."
Raelynn says, "oh, i do hope we can get the meeting. you see, i am the apprentice diplomat to these fine diplomats"
Luc says, "It'd be wrong to deprive a man like that of his love."
Pyotr leads Vasili, and Emfet, over to the side, looking for a place to discreetly apply a bandage.
Raelynn says, "and i really would love to see actual diplomacy in action"
Charles says, "Of course."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "I guess if the army retreats it'll be getting back on the ships"
Luc says, "Last I saw him was in St. Tremult; he may have moved up the coast since then to be closer to the action, as it were."
Sebastien says, "I have no doubt Montegue is a busy man, but I can assure you of the urgency of our mission"
[ussura] Raelynn says, "you know, i just thought about this"
Charles says, "Yes, he was never one to shy away from shedding foreign blood, that one."
[ussura] Pyotr asks (of gm), "we need to roll Stealth, or what?"
[ussura] Raelynn asks, "seb is a montaigne diplomat. who is he representing in this meeting with montegue? ussura?"
GM tosses Raelynn and Charles a drama die, too.
[ussura] Raelynn says, "it's not like the montaignes need a diplomat to talk to its own general"

[ussura] Sebastien says, "I have no trouble imagining Charles's knuckles slowly whitening as he grips his saddle pommel"

[ussura] GM says, "They're conveying the message, assuming that he'd be more likely to trust his countrymen."

[ussura] Charles says, "I don't imagine that just anyone can walk in to see the general."

Vasili rests with Pyotr and Efmet, obscuring most views of the bandaging.

[ussura] Pyotr asks, "none of us have an actual healing skill, right? can I use my Survival skill to try and bandage Emfet?"

Luc leaves the other guard at his station, and leads you to a large tent where they've obviously stored food, but there's not a ton left.
[ussura] GM says, "Ha"
[ussura] GM says, "Sure, Survival makes at least some sense."
[ussura] Pyotr asks, "good, that's better. what's my trait? wits?"
[ussura] GM says, "Yeah, sure."

Fang disappears through an invisible gap in the MUD. You think you may have heard the sounds of chatting before the gap closed again.
Raelynn looks around curiously for any familiar faces
[ussura] Era says (to Raelynn), "Great job flirting with the guard."
Efrem says (to Pyotr), "Thank you. Whew."
[ussura] Raelynn says, "i wasn't flirting! note i didn't flutter my eyes *at all*"
[ussura] GM says, "Hee"
[ussura] Vasili says, "ah, we both had his name wrong."
Pyotr asks, "If it gets worse, we'll tell them we fought off some wolves on our way over, and the wound has re-opened, okay?"

Pyotr exclaims, "Both parts are true, even!"
Era exclaims, "Since most of us did, it makes perfect sense!"

Era says (to Efrem), "One day you'll have to tell me the whole story, but not now."
[ussura] GM says, "Anything else folks want to do whilst you wait? You figure you have at least half an hour, probably more like two hours, based on previous diplomatic experiences."
Raelynn sees fellow montaignes and unexpectedly starts feeling a little patriotic
[ussura] Raelynn says, "i am having a crisis of patriotism and loyalty to the motley band i am with"
[ussura] Raelynn says, "that should keep me busy for two hours"
[ussura] Vasili says, "but you know you will come back with us so you can meet the weird Porte master."
GM says, "The mood in the camp seems to be beleagured, but hopeful. They've obviously suffered many losses, but getting as far as they have has raised their spirits."
[ussura] Raelynn says, "oh right"
Vasili checks out the food tent.
Vasili makes sure never to wander far from friends who speak Montaignian, though.
Sebastien studies the soldiers as they stand around, trying to work out what the heck he's going to say to Montegue.
Raelynn says (to vasili), "(softly) we have our own stores. let's not take their food"
Raelynn says, "besides, if they have food, they won't need to pillage on their way back"
Era asks (of Group), "I don't suppose anyone wants to start tutoring me in Montaigne?"
GM says (to Vasili), "A great deal of it is food you don't recognize--they clearly haven't been able to forage off the land much, and have had to import most of their food from home."
Vasili says, "Oh, just curious what they have."
Raelynn points to Pyotr and says in Montaigne, "Pyotr needs a bath."
[ussura] Charles asks, "What was the URL of that page with general mission and knowledge stuff on it?"
Raelynn switches and says that back in ussuran
Raelynn says (to era), "now you know one sentence"
[ussura] Charles says, "It is hard to remember all our various goals when we don't play every week."

Pyotr exclaims, "Hey, I got rained on just a few months ago!"
Era says, "Hahaha. I could learn that phrase in many languages, and it would be true every time."

Luc says, "Right! You're in luck; he only had four crises to deal with first."

Sebastien rechecks his paperwork.

[ussura] GM says, "Yeah, that probably makes the most dramatic sense."
[ussura] GM says, "And Charles at least needs to be there."

[ussura] Vasili says, "IC I'd send the three of you, but that would be boring."
Raelynn says (to luc), "oh, i found this picture in my scrapbook from a holiday on the coast when i was a child. I thought you may like it to remember home"
[ussura] Charles says, "I imagine Alix will be simultaneously there and not there."
Luc says (to Charles), "Oh, as you're heading out, you think you see a flash of gold dart behind a nearby tent in the twilight."
[ussura] Luc says, "Except as the GM, duh."
[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says, "the snitch!"
Sebastien rounds up all the people who've wandered off, and makes sure the attendants are off someplace.
Luc says (to Raelynn), "Oh! I'm... I'm touched. Thank you."
Charles raises an eyebrow and half-smirks briefly as he goes.
[ussura] Charles says, "In theory, it seems reasonable to include as many people as are named in our papers from Tamara."
[ussura] GM says, "Sure, we can work that however you like."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "good point"
[ussura] Raelynn says, "but leaving the ussuran spies alone might be risky"
[ussura] GM asks, "Do you want to leave Efrem and co. behind?"
[ussura] Raelynn asks, "what if someone in the army recognizes them? or phillipe comes back and takes a closer look?"
[ussura] GM says, "Efrem is pretty shot."
Pyotr says (to Efrem), "Why don't you fellows stay here with our gear."
Pyotr says, "No point in taking this heavy backpack to see a busy general."
Vasili says, "I'll stay too. It's not like I'd understand any of the conversation."
Pyotr drops his backpack and axe on the floor. And hides his dagger in his boot.
Raelynn says (to vasili), "i will stay with you"
Sebastien says (to Vasili), "oh, I dunno, you may be called to testify about something"
Raelynn says (to vasili), "in case anyone speaks to you and you have no idea what's going on"
Sebastien says, "Alixandre will be happy to translate, I'm sure"
Efrem says, "Right. I shouldn't pass up this opportunity to gather intelligence, but... I can't believe I'm saying this, but I need to sleep."
[ussura] Raelynn says, "you know, i keep forgetting about alix"
[ussura] Raelynn says, "i *wonder* why"
[ussura] Vasili asks, "oops, did we forget to wind him up again?"
[ussura] GM says, "Heh, sigh."

[ussura] Era says, "since the GM just promised no random encounter rolls."

[ussura] Raelynn says (to seb), "i was aware of that, but i was trying to cover all bases. but woo! onward to diplomacy!"
[ussura] GM says, "If you stayed behind, *then* I'd have to come up with a random encounter ;-)"

Rob arrives, looking for booty.
[ussura] Charles says, "I.e. if you want an encounter roll, you'll have to generate it yourself with Montegue."

GM says, "So, Luc leads you across the camp, to what is obviously the command post."
Sebastien looks around for Montegue's tent.
Raelynn continues looking around for familiar faces

Luc says (to Guard), "This is the diplomatic envoy I told you about."

[ussura] Sebastien says, "we're in alternate-russian here to negotiate with alternate-sort-of-napoleon"

Luc leads you inside the tent.
[ussura] Rob says, "he has the other hand tucked in his coat"
[ussura] Sebastien says, "only he's a general working for the sun king"
Luc says, "Inside is a large table with a makeshift map of Ussura on it. You're pretty sure that there used to be markers on it that have all been hastily cleared away."
[ussura] Vasili says, "to convince him not to attack alternate-Moscow. But more important, to try to explain that the strange golden egg which will likely show up soon has come for him."
Sebastien mutters "Well, at least we won't have a problem recognizing him"
[ussura] GM says, "Bah, window."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "do not ask for whom the egg hatches"

GM says, "A young man with intense eyes is the obvious leader here, and stands as you approach. Various other people stand behind him, some more swarthy and some more fashionable. It's fairly clear who's here because it's a military post, and who's here because of familial connections."
[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says, "i've been with era too long"
[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says, "i read that as Sebastien howls"
Sebastien says, "Alixandre Leuridan and I are accredited diplomats -- if you'd care to examine our papers"
Montegue says, "Monsieur Delecambre. I am honored."
Montegue nods and scans them.
Sebastien says, "we come to present an offer from Tamara v'Rissanova"
Sebastien proffers further papers.
Charles peers intently at Montegue.
Sebastien asks, "I am afraid the exact details of this offer are somewhat private -- perhaps there is some more enclosed space we could proceed to?"
GM says, "Your eyes are still adjusting to the different light inside the tent, but gradually details are becoming more clear."
[ussura] Charles asks, "Does he look roughly the same as when I met him before? Notable younger?"
[ussura] Charles asks, "Someone else entirely?"
Montegue says, "Oh, I see you've worked with Devoe, here."
[ussura] Sebastien asks, "uh -- is that Devoe *here*?"
Montegue sees your confusion. "Haven't you? Devoe, you know these two, right?"
Sebastien's head snaps around.
Raelynn ducks head
Sebastien says, "why, yes, you could say we've met"
[Crows-Nest] Rob says, "twunggggg"
Sebastien says, "I admit I hadn't expected to meet again -- at least, not under these circumstances"
Devoe says (to Montegue), "Yes! Uh, yes, we have."
Sebastien says, "I imagine Alixandre is even more surprised"
[ussura] Raelynn asks, "last we saw him, he was in fleur's porte hole, right?"
[ussura] Sebastien says, "what I thought happened is he wandered off after the voices"

[ussura] Charles asks, "He separated from Fleur, right?"
[ussura] Raelynn says, "that's what i thought. i figured he was still in there"

Montegue says, "He's been an invaluable strategist since we found him, though."
Pyotr says, "What we saw of his strategy was promising but ultimately flawed."
Charles says, "I imagine he had quite a lot to tell about what he'd been doing there."
[ussura] Sebastien says, "I am also totally pleased by this scene"
Devoe says, "It was horrible, let me tell you."
Devoe says, "Don't like to think about it much; I've blocked most of it out."
[ussura] Vasili asks, "Do we know whether these folks would be pleased or displeased about the whole Dreng thing?"
Charles frowns. "I refer to Gallenia, not to the side-effects of your Montaigne sorcery."
[ussura] Raelynn says, "man, i wish i knew how to cut. i would have loved to see his face blanch by opening a hole"
[ussura] Sebastien says, "probably pleased if it was pulled off"
[ussura] Sebastien says, "irritated as a diplomatic/losing-face thing since it was foiled"
[ussura] GM says, "Yeah, a civil war in the back of Ussura would certainly ease things on the front."
[ussura] Pyotr says, "really mad at us since we foiled it"
Devoe says, "Ah, yes, Gallenia. Well."
Devoe shakes his head.
Devoe says, "Can't win 'em all."
[ussura] Charles says, "I am still wondering how different Montegue looks from the last time I saw him."
[ussura] GM says, "Oh, that's a great question."
[ussura] Raelynn asks, "could devoe have brought some of the bugs with him? since they also came from the hole, right?"
[ussura] Charles says, "(I guess you missed it earlier.)"
[ussura] Sebastien says (to Raelynn), "there's some connection there, yeah"
[ussura] GM says, "He is, in fact, wearing exactly the same clothing as when you saw him last. He is a bit more clean-shaven now than then, though."
[ussura] GM says (to Charles), "Whoops, sorry."
[ussura] Sebastien asks, "ok, so is there something I can roll to try to see what's up with Devoe?"
[ussura] Vasili says, "(Acting sounded good to me)"
[ussura] GM says (to Sebastien), "Sure--go ahead and pick something, I'll give you a TN, and you can roll. Sense Motive would probably give you the best TN; others would be a bit harder."
[ussura] Sebastien asks, "ok, I'll go with Acting -- +Wits?"
[ussura] GM says, "Sure."
[ussura] GM asks, "So, like, based on your own acting ability, you're sensing how much of what he's doing is an act?"
[Crows-Nest] Rob asks, "who is this Devoe guy?"
[ussura] Charles says, "I am inclined to suggest that we don't want Devoe in the room when we actually talk to Montegue."

Sebastien says, "as I said, the details of Lady Tamara's proposal were intended to be private -- perhaps we could have a brief initial discussion in private"

GM says, "Alrighty."
Montegue looks around suspiciously, and puts his hand on his rapier. "Not what he seems to be? What do you mean?"
[ussura] GM asks, "Charles? Anything you want to say in particular?"
Charles says, "In the East, we met Devoe. And we met other forces -- enemies of both Ussuran *and* Montaigne. I put it to you that this man may be one of them in disguise."
Charles holds out the pendant. "I don't know if this will give you any reason to believe me, at this point. If not, then take it... and remember this next time."
GM says, "You hold out the pendant--and it *glows*"
Montegue asks, "Where did you get *that*?"
Charles says, "You gave it to me. In another place."
Montegue pulls out his own pendant... and it start glowing, too.
[ussura] GM exclaims, "Phase 7!"
Charles says, "As a sign that you don't need to be the enemy of the mother of Ussura."
Devoe crouches down, slinking back.
[ussura] GM asks (of Pyotr), "Shirt-ripping time?"
[ussura] Pyotr says, "oh yeah"
[ussura] Raelynn says, "he's 8!"
[ussura] Pyotr asks, "sadly I didn't take wrestling. can I use Dirty Fighting, or just straight brawn?"

(From GM) various people mouth, "What's going on?" "Isn't Devoe..." "Who are these people?" "I don't trust 'em"

Pyotr exclaims (at Montegue), "I'll prove it!"
Pyotr grabs hold of Devoe, and rips the coat and shirt off his body, revealing...
[Crows-Nest] Rob says, "a slip and corset"
GM says, "...Devoe, still wearing a coat and shirt. The coat and shirt in Pyotr's hand warp, then melt away."
[Crows-Nest] Sebastien says, "ha ha"
[ussura] Sebastien exclaims, "excellent@!"
Devoe says, "Damn you people."
[Crows-Nest] Rob says, "ooh, cool"

Devoe leaps straight up, ripping a hole in the roof of the tent!

Vasili is just running after the thing, disappointed it's moving so fast.

GM says (to Charles&Montegue), "You both notice that your pendants have stopped glowing."
[Crows-Nest] Fang asks, "Are you seriously going to take advice from the GM?"
Raelynn kneels down with her bow and arrow and is feverishly looking for her knife
[ussura] GM says, "It takes a bit of concentration to blood something, yes."
[Crows-Nest] GM says, "Ha"
[Crows-Nest] Sebastien says, "it's pretty safe -- this isn't tomb of horrors"
[ussura] Raelynn says (to era), "do something to buy me time to blood this arrow"
[ussura] Era says, "alrighty"
Raelynn breathes in and out, and forces herself to focus as she brings the knife to her thumb. :wince:
Era's arms ripple into wings.
Raelynn mutters, I hate blooding
[Crows-Nest] Fang says, "Maybe this thing has a taste for blood or something"
[ussura] GM says, "Hee"
[ussura] Era says, "doing a partial transformation just looks cool."
[Crows-Nest] Raelynn says (to fang), "you sir, are irritating me. stop distracting me"
[ussura] GM says, "Yay"
Era flies after the flea-man
[Crows-Nest] Sebastien says, "the blood is for the magic she's doing"
[Crows-Nest] Vasili says, "it's part of a magic that would let her figure out where it is, at least until it plucks the arrow out."
Raelynn wipes her thumb on the arrow and carefully whispers the ritual phrases and makes sure she says it right
GM says, "Era lifts into the air, and most of the Montaignians would cower in terror if Montegue wasn't there watching them."
[ussura] Raelynn asks, "okay, with finesse?"
[ussura] Raelynn says, "i will wait for era. that will be a nice time for the magic to work"
[ussura] GM says, "Oh, for the blooding ritual? Hunh, lemme check."

Era climbs a bit, then attempts a stoop with feet outsretched onto the flea-man's back.

Devoe tumbles to the side, turning around and making for the trees, right across Raelynn's line of vision.

[ussura] Raelynn says, "let's add a drama right off the bat, then. finesse + archery"

Raelynn says, "(which does a nice spiral and a little hop in mid-air on its way to the fleaman, where it embeds into his ear to the point where half the arrow disappears from sight)"
